I had a happy tear when you tacked the first two boards on the bottom row . By the 5th board I wanted to jump and shout . The grains of the wood was beginning to pop . On your door handles, when you have been outside and your hands get cold, the levers like you have are much easier to use than round knobs. Especially if you gloves are slippery from being wet or snow covered.

It is also good for bears, wolves and other critters to open... My dogs do it to even round knob door handles.

@@jamesnichols9753 - I mentioned this similarity elsewhere!! 😂😂 I know from direct experience with a barn style shed we turned into a cabin!! We hadn’t finished it yet, but a bear broke in anyways and destroyed an Yeti cooler. They can say what they want, but they are not bear resistant. The bear we chased out was only maybe 200 lbs and a black bear. Chewed to get to the insulation, shredded that, ate everything, chewed off the catches,,,,, 😂😂😂. The cabin came with the levers as my wife had chosen them without me knowing l they called and asked her if she would like levers vs knobs,,,, hahaha. Glad it wasn’t finished yet. We harassed that bear for almost a full summer, sometimes chasing it a few miles. Eventually it stopped coming back. For now. See what next spring says. Never saw it this year though!! They just never forget it seems. Take care, Eh!

going to look great brother . already looks warm in there . i tell ya what it gets cold you put a couple coalman lanterns in that place and in a hour or so it will be nice in there . i dont know about hot but warmer lol . might be something worth trying just for fun . you know why dont you make a water tower outside the cabin all in closed insulated just a little bit bigger then the water totes then run the exhaust from the heater up into the tower building . all that exhaust would keep your water warm . with it being a small shed like building it would get really warm in there just from heat you would other wise waste . you could run a pipe down to the ground and hook the ball valve up to a rope or lever of some kind and spring load the handle on the tote so when you pull the rope it opens and when you let go it closes . you could even plumb it right into the cabin if you wanted to . how weird would it be to not have to go out side to get water . and off the roof you could hook up gutters and fill the water tote with rain water . you know its not that i think about this stuff all week waiting for a new video or any thing . lol . hey just thoughts i dont really know if you even read these lol . but hey if you do take care stay warm and work safe buddy . ill be back to re watch this in the morning .

My planer quit feeding on green lumber after the blades and rollers became clogged with sap. It was easy to wipe off with rag and alcahol . Keep up the good work.

Ryan I reclaim pallet wood & plane year round in the Thumb. When blades get dull often my boards don't feed or plane well. Also those rollers get dirty too and need periodic cleaning with warm dish soap & water. That gets the gunk off them. I just turn on and off the planer to rotate the rollers so I can clean them with the soapy water when it's off. Since you are planing sappy green wood, maybe a good roller cleaning is what you need. Stay warm!

A wood stove doesn't have to take up space or pipe through the roof. You can build a bump out eliminating both. I have seen it many times in tiny cabins. Propane sucks, it's expensive, always hauling tanks and its not a dry heat like wood, wood stoves won't go boom. It's a great secondary source but I would use wood as a primary source. Great videos. Hi Ryan, I know you're nor much of a woodstove or sponsorship kinda guy, but you really should see if cubic mini woodstoves would give you a go at one of their tiny units to have as a back up heat supply if the propane runes out (or won't work if tanks get too cold). New cabin is looking awesome- you'll need a new sauna/show house (and relocate the hot tub) for next winter. Perhaps you could try a cedar log cabin style for a sauna?

It has to get pretty cold for propane tanks to stop working. It's butane that stops working below freezing.

Ryan, The cabin sure is looking really nice, but for Heavens Sake man don't put no caulk on that pretty cedar wood. You have already caulked the outside and now insulated the walls. The cedar wood is looking fantastic and doesn't need no caulk on it, it will not look good when done and then it's too late. The router idea of chamfering the edges sounds cool and will look cool. Just my thoughts. Take Care Brother

Put together a temporary shelter with a tarp and throw a propane heater in there. That'll warm things up enough where you can plane them.

I think the "reason" you might want to remove the wall boards later could be to run some wiring and outlets. I would plug in the Jackery at one spot so that it powers all the outlets.

You’re absolutely right about why the planer isn’t pushing the material through. The moisture in the wood has frozen and the rubber rollers can’t grip the material to send it through. Don’t sit behind it trying to force feed the material yourself, you’ll just end up with poor quality cuts. Finish carpentry requires lots of patience unlike rough carpentry, just wait until the weather allows the wood to feed through properly.

Hey Ryan, when you get the heater in and you build the box for the water jug use a metal bottom then put a 90 degree elbow on the exhaust tube so it blows on the metal and that should keep your water from freezing. Great job on the cabin build, I also have a place in the U.P. of Michigan north of Newberry just south of the Two heart river. I would love to meet you sometime.

Game changer for me was setting up a kitchen sink inside my shelter that empties into a 3 gallon bucket. I put my 5 Gallon water jug (like yours) next to the sink on a plastic crate and use it as my faucet. Great for washing dishes, cooking, and cleaning up indoors. Just have to empty the bucket about once a day. The bucket also can be a chamber pot (for number one) when you don't want to run outside late at night or early in the morning. Dump it on my compost heap. Phosphates and ammonia are all good for the compost.

It’s hard to read 598 comments for repetitive info, so sorry if you’ve heard this.. I use the same planer and did the same thing you did with wet softwoods. The minute you feel yourself starting to push the wood through, flip your blades or replace them. They’re disposable blades and I buy them in bulk on Amazon. Happy Holidays, man! Love the channel.

all of those thin boards he just burnt up could have been used to stack the lumber the right way. Really all he needs to do is build a small wood frame shell and then nail that tarp around it much like a hoop house so that it warms up in there and all of the wood would be dry. Because he keeps the wood undercover with out air flow it keeps pretty wet. Evena week in proper drying will make them boards far better.

It’s way too much work involved for the set up he has the man’s coming from staying in a tent in the cold months etc he wants to be able to walk in flip a switch bam heat second wen ur done hit the switch gas off bam an no manual labor involved with cutting wood down sitting it an stacking it etc so much work for a tiny cabin when propane will just be fine and doubt it will be expensive he’s a cheap man he’s running that stove at the bare minimal so T get me wrong I would want a wood stove over anything for myself but this guys so busy an doing all other sorts of build instead of spending days an weeks. Cuting down trees cutting the logs up an splitting way too much work just to heat a small cabin😂

@@matthewloomis838 Dude I lived in a 500 square foot house. I used less than 5 cords a year to heat the house. It took me all of a few days to cut and split all of this wood. Even if I had to cut down a dozen or so trees it still would have taken me a couple of days. You make it sound like he is going to burn 50 cords. It really not that much wood to heat a small area. All of those scraps he just burnt was likely a cord. I have seen him burn massive piles. The amount of work that he does already it would not take much time to cut and split firewood every week. You only need a 1500 dollar wood splitter and he has that kind of money. Propane also adds up. I am sure he uses those bottles pretty quick. I know that trying to heat a small 300 square foot shed that is uninstalled uses a massive amount of propane.

Just a thought on the planer and the cold. Move the planer into the cabin - use your Buddy Heater to warm it up, along with your wood. Then open the door and move the planer, and Buddy Heater so the output it facing outside. You could then plane your boards out onto the deck/stairs. It shouldn't take too much to warm up the machine and while it's running it will also partially self warm.

But I’m 81 and started a wood lot at the pandemic start so if I had those cutoffs I would roll them in poly and get 10$ a bundle. I get my wood free but no kindling. So far about 8k out of my country driveway. Cash and carry. And I’m getting stronger day by day I guess moving heavy wood to the 25 ton splitter then throw onto the splitter then stack out front. The new bridge to Dundas opened 10 days ago and we’ve sold 8 cords. Not bad for a rookie. Thanks for ringworm fun. Colin

Maybe put tar paper on walls, router wall board edges some and won't have to caulk anything if don't want to. Anything showing thru the cracks would be black. Tar paper might also act as some type of vapor barrier too.

On a lot of instillations of gas appliances copper pipe is used. 3/8 copper and fittings are easier than 3/8 black pipe.

Cabin's looking good. The wood boards over the insulation look nice. Getting cold up there in the UP. It's so-so here in Wisconsin. Not real cold yet. You'll have to decorate one of the trees in the woods for Christmas. Maybe string up some battery lights. Hang some birdseed bells on it. Take care.

If you put black visqueen on the walls as a vapor barrier ( to stop the frost from coming trough your walls) as the wood drys it will show the black trough all the cracks looking like the out side with no mess. When you put the screws in put the drill in reverse and smoke them . Go reverse till you see the smoke then put it back to forward and the wood won’t split . 😊

The disadvantage to an auto-switch on the propane is that you don't realize the first tank is empty. For people who only have two tanks in total, they typically want to find out the first one ran dry, and they wouldn't want the automation.

for heavy duty tent poles, ive read people use flexible chimney sweep rods, they usually come in 5 foot lengths and screw together. people use them for high winds, they may hold up more snow.

If you had a small woodstove all those scraps would be perfect for it! U could get a oil heater and place it under a a 55 gal jug to keep it from freezing outside! Just a thought! U else come up with unique ideas I'm sure could do something with the rain water
