So you can lay insulation on top of the concrete? What goes on top of the insulation? I'm building an extention and want to insulate the old part of the house, I was advised to dig down 8 inches, DPM, insulation then concrete over.

There should be a layer of DPM between the slab and the insulation and another layer of VCL before the screed goes on.

@@ninety1464they have the membrane folded up in the corner ready to go on top of the PIR to prevent the screed finding its way under the PIR and to stop any chemical reaction between the foil and the screed however, best practice is an upstand of 25mm PIR around the perimeter too, to eliminate cold bridging.

@nickedwards5629 really. I did mine 2 months ago, 6 inch downstairs with 1 inch upstand on all internal and external walls. Balls of a job. Is it better not to do upstand? If I was to go back u would have used 4 inch and 2 inch sheets to make 6 inch rather than use solid 6 inch sheets. Too much noching out and messing

No, not at all! A laminate floor has no ability to bridge between the foam panel joints and no ability to withstand point loads like the feet of furniture. Instead, lay a 22mm water resistant chipboard floor, with all joints staggered and glued with pu adhesive. Make sure all dried adhesive is removed from the joints. Then install your laminate floor. Do you need to screed this after? Or could chipboard be used instead? I’m in a 8 year old house with a concrete floor and it’s supposedly insulated, but freezing in winter on the outskirts of the house mainly. Just looking for ideas before I replace flooring.

Hi, thank you for posting this video. Does it matter if the insulation is dipped in some areas and all the insulation isn't level. We have had timber floors removed and concrete flooring put down. Some.of it is quite unlevel. Is this a problem for underfloor heating and top screed? Thank you

What point weight will this take? I’m doing a garage conversion (concrete floor levelled off using levelling compound) then I was going to use this method this method with chipboard or plywood over the top 18mm. I intend to put a weights in there, will it crush the insulation if I do?

Just a question but if you use a plastic sheet under the concrete, why would you need insulation? Wouldn’t the plastic prevent the concrete coming into contact with damp and cold?

I am just about to do a mini garage conversion and wondered if I could use the 100mm Celotex insulation with Screed on top to bring the garage floor level with the rest of the house. Will I need a DPM layer over the Celotex before laying the screed? Really appreciate your advice.

Out of curiosity, do you know how much weight these panels can take once they have a screed cover on them? I want to put a large fish tank in a room with these under the screed, but I am worried it's just going to collapse!

You should be able to put any amount of weight on it mate Aslong as the concrete base is thick enough and the screed is also!👍🏽👍🏽

Stephen Price hi there, so we have 4 inch of concrete then 4inch of insulation which you can see in the video and then we have 70mm of floor screed. That’s when you put your carpet/flooring down ontop of the screed!👍🏽
