Bookshelf girts really help to finish out an interior wall. Also helps with stabilizing a pole barn.

I know its all done but i would have bought a few cans of great stuff expanding foam and shot it in the raised ribs at bottom. Not get crazy but enough to keep most of the bugs out instead of caulk. I know I need to when time comes for our 32x48x12. We had a horde of stink bugs last year I literally vacuumed over 100 and found another 100 that found places to hide atleast the ones I found they go everywhere. I hate them almost as much as mice. Im going to try and seal it up as much as possible. Tape, caulk, expanding foam, osb. It will eventually be heated so its all worth it.

Thanks - I had thought about expanding foam but wasn't sure if it would damage the panels. I learned from another commentor that there are close out foam pieces that you can use to fill the gaps in, so I will be investigating those too.

First off, great looking shop. Hope it serves you well. On the wall insulation, I think I would be concerned about completely sealing the outside sheathing. My thought is that if you ever heat cool the shop you are creating a condensation point where any moisture has no way to escape and any scratches on the panels would rust and then there is the mold issue. Have you thought about using something like steel wool or greenie pad type mesh to seal the big gaps for bugs, and then using something like 6-10mil vapor barrier plastic to do your sealing, then inserting your insulation panels and cover? If you are only doing a section here and there then its probably a moot point. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks! Right now I am only doing a section here and there. Another commentor mentioned they make specific foam closure panels that I will be using going forward. The building is only going to be heated when in use, so once and a while.

@@ACHAutomotive Thanks for the reply. Lol, you did it wrong if you seal it airtight, you did it wrong if you don't seal it airtight! Sometimes you just have to do it the best you can and learn along the way. I do think if you have the time the interweb has helped hugely in getting better information out there, but there is still a crap ton of junk you have to filter out to get to it. Best wishes you get what you want and need.

I got one from Lowes and one from Amazon. I think I bought the first one on Amazon and then was walking in Lowes one day and saw they had them and bought another. About $5 ea from what I recall. Very handy.

I think you should consider using 3/4" plywood instead of OSB. I just finished my 24x48 shop and used the 7/16 OSB on all the walls and can't really mount anything without securing to a post or girt. I know price is significant, but you would only need it up to 4 or 8 ft.

That is a good thought, I appreciate that.

Nice shop. I am working on plans for a 40x60... but I might use containers for walls. Not taking from inside of shop with containers

Thanks! Yes I explored that option but wanted something a little more permanent and since it's right in my back yard, the wife acceptance factor also played a role haha

So I thought you’d have to have a vapor barrier or some type. I don’t have a vapor barrier on mine so I’ve been planning/saving for spray foam

The rigid foam, from what I understand, acts as the vapor barrier. Keep in mind, I am not an insulation or building guy. I fix cars and computers for a living lol

Don’t you need to let air between the steel and the insulation so it does not collect moisture?

Are you heating against heat or cold? I live in upstate ny so I need to insulate for cold.

More trying to heat in the winter. Although I had the building up and usable by the end of last summer and it was quite hot in there even with both doors open so I will likely put a big fan in at some point.
