A properly insulated and air sealed attic is one of the main components of a green, energy efficient home. Because the heated air in a house tends to rise and escape through openings in the upper levels of the building, attics need to be sealed to prevent air leakage. Air leaks in attics are the source of many problems, including ice damming on the roof, and mold. In addition, inadequate insulation causes drastic variations in attic temperatures throughout the year. Scorching attic temperatures during the summer or freezing temperatures during winter make your heating and cooling system work harder to keep your home comfortable. If you have HVAC and ducts running through the attic, the energy loss is even more significant.
There are two options to create an energy efficient attic. You can seal the living space from the attic and blow a thick layer of insulation on the attic floor, excluding the vented, unconditioned attic from the internal building envelope. I have gas furnace and water heater up there so vented attic required. Will try to air seal the ceiling, live in louisiana so things are mild but when it gets cold, sure is nice to be comfortable those days.

The problem I see is how do you know your roof is leaking, etc if it’s all covered up.

I can see why this method worked in this particular house: Lots of mechanicals in the attic, on top of a finished attic deck. Also, it would make quick work of converting this attic to live-in space if needed. Otherwise, I'm still a fan of traditional attic-deck insulation, between the studs that form the ceilings of the rooms below. The attic is merely a hat for the house, to keep wind and precipitation from reaching the inhabited spaces of the home.

I wonder though, can you put sheet rock over the foam board or will that negate the foil affect?

What was done to stop the thermal connection with the sill plate in the soffit? How will the gable end walls bays dry out? What is the r value again of those panels? Why was dense packing or spray foam not considered? I agree with the thermal boundary but bath fans need to be hard piped with a negative slope to the outside.

Could you install the bubble type double reflective Insulation on the roof rafters then install 2" foamular rigid insulation to the bottom of the rafters as well?

Nice looking work. At least you did not throw the so called insulating stuff on the floor of the attic. What is the material inside the Superattic panels? Is it styrofoam or styrene?

Cannot find input or help in months. Insulating/Foaming holes-cracks in Attic. 1940 Ranch. Where the Front Porch was connected to House is a HUGE cutout Access Hole in the Attic Wall facing street, made to get to the Porch ceiling to install a Fan way back when. When you sit on the Porch, if you turn around is where the Alum. Siding is on the front of the house. Cutout hole in Attic measures 18 feet wide by 6 Foot high(exposing the Ceiling of add-on Porch), then the remaining wall UNcut has the other Gable vent(back of house has Gable vent also). No animal or pest problems ever. Is this the BEST ventilation in the world to keep the Attic Cool or Warm in winter??? I wanted to seal it up. I have never seen anything like this. Chimney chase only has basement Furnace/ and Water heater vents( no fireplace). There's even in Attic ANOTHER Chase that has no purpose(no exposed pipes etcetc UN sealed in Attic). It's like when they built the TWO chase's to basement, they said, " NO you idiot Chimney goes OVER there. Any help thanks......WISH I could provide Pictures, you guys wouldn't believe it when it was constructed. ALL your Videos I have learned intently and taken notes and acted upon to-do my jobs. 👍👌👍

Looks good... The one concern I have is covering up the roof sheathing... You won't be able to visually inspect for leaks.

You know the roof is leaking when water is coming out of your soffit vents. Not ideal but very worth the trade-off

today inspector asked us to wrap all duct pipes with r20 insulation in the attic but i couldnt find anything its just r6 wrapping insulation in te storesso what should i do about that?

what if your roof attic does not have a ridge vent but two to three roof vents in own locations can it still be uses the super attic insulation.,.

bccron IMO, yes it could be done with horizontal spants, but even better would be to plug those roof vents and install a ridge vent.

Agree with Jerry i had this done by local super attic rep. Installing ridge vent was not THAT expensive and not THAT hard given overall job. Thsi stuff works as he susgests-just make sure you have adequate soffit venting that is NOT clogged up with seeds dirt etc or painted over ! Most OLED houses do NOT have adequate amount soffit venting to match up with the ridge venting, esp after they have been painted over and v clogged for many years- Its a pain top pop out old clogged soffit vent and replace, may just wante to double up with an additional new stiffest vent strip - Bottom line-HAVING mechanical in an UNcoditioned attic is just nuts....IOf u lack a basement, condition your attic - one caveat-thsi is a very meticulous job, down for a demo video-you want get this level of finish or tight gaps- foam will NOT seal forever-suggest sealing ALL seams with hi quality butyl tape used on good ductwork-not the thin usual big box store metal tape- has to be butyl with that sticky adhesive -thsi sticks on avidly -a trick you cna probably cut in half lengthwise with sharp utility knife-most seams wont require the full width of standard tape and save $.

Your are making hell-of-a-mistake in how you install this. The secret is knowing how to retain heat, not to give the attic the "Flash Over Treatment" .
