took a pump vacation 5 years ago and I'm still on it ;)

I'm glad I found this video. I did MDI for 12 years with syringes and vials then switched to the insulin pens. I've been on the insulin pump for 5 years and I need a break. I'll be talking to my doctor about taking a break because honestly I just want a good night's sleep without worrying about pulling out my pump while I'm sleep and I want to be disconnected for few days.

This is one of the MANY reasons why I'm not sure whether or not I should switch from MDI to pump. The idea of sleeping with "one eye open" in order to not pull put the pump or do something to the tubing sounds tiring already and I haven't even made the switch. So, I understand what you're saying.

After wearing Medtronic pump for 20 years. Took a pump break for 6 years. I enjoyed MDI ( Tresiba and novolog ) and mostly being UNattached!!!! About 6 months ago I got out of control so I just started on my new Tandem!

Your videos speak so much truth about living with diabetes I always say how come I can't get better control but I think alot of people think that and watching your videos really tell me that I'm not the only one with the ups and downs. I find your videos very inspiring Thanks

I have been MDI for 20 years... A1C 6.5... So many variables alter things. What works one day... doesn't work the next. If it was easy... if only it was easy... it isn't.

My husband is a pen user and I a pump user... we often go back and forth with our pros and cons for each. But we're ok with being a divided home 😂

I've taken a couple pump breaks throughout my almost 8 years on a pump! Each time, I switched back to MDI for just a little while. This video perfectly described my experiences... I loved hearing that you've gone through a similar situation & hearing your thoughts on it :) Thank you for sharing with us!

Hi Michelle! My son is still on his "pump holiday" :-). He wants to be on MDI until summer vacation is over and school starts and loves being "free" of his pump. He is using NovoRapid injections as he does when using his pump. He is using his Medtronic as his calculator which is convenient. The major con for him was, as you mentioned, not being able to give the temporary basal and going low many times after swimming or biking.

I'm glad your son is enjoying his pump holiday this summer :)! Yes, having that temporary basal is very helpful for activities like swimming!
@russellseaton20145 жыл бұрын
For some reason you missed the most important reason why the pump is superior to injections. A pump allows you to vary the basal insulin at anytime throughout the day. Every diabetic needs a different basal amount at different times during the day. The pump allows this. Injections of long acting insulin such as Levemir, Lantus, NPH, do not allow hour by hour changes in dosage. Long acting insulins provide a constant amount of insulin throughout their working time. You mentioned temporary basal in the video. But that is not the same. Temporary basal is a percentage reduction of basal during a time period. You can still have many levels of basal insulin while the temporary basal is reducing them all by 50%.

I don't mind the MDI's as opposed to having another device. I am, however getting a cgm.

I've totally given shots on the TTC haha could fear the stares but meh it's my life. Good to hear what you thought. I don't think I need a pump vaca, I'm rather attached (pun intended) to my pump. I do think if I did I would still keep my Libre on because of the info it gives. Did you like Fiasp? Heard it's a lot faster!

well said. my 9yr old daughter just passed her 1year since diagnosis, she's still on MDI She just got home from her first diabetes camp. I was wondering if you were ever involved with D Camps. She had fun but had a couple nights when she wanted to come home. They require at least 4 finger pricks/day but she didn't complain about that even though she is used to her Libre. I was thinking we might start looking at pumps in the Spring, I really want the Dexcom G6 to be available in Canada

I'm so glad to hear that your daughter got to attend diabetes camp! I feel that this is so important for children with diabetes. I never attended camps as a child because I was diagnosed at age 12 (almost 13) and for some reason I thought that I was "too old" for camp. I wish that I would have had this experience though!

I’ve been using pens for about a year since I was diagnosed and I’ve been hating them, wishing that I had a pump to take away the leg work. But you’ve helped me realize that there’s no fix all and I just have to stop being so lazy lol

Interesting Pros and Cons. The Pro of thinking twice before eating something should be given more importance as we generally eat out of boredom and that leads to increased weight overall....

I agree! I often find myself going to get a snack when I'm not even hungry.

so michelle, have you had just a "carb day" where you kinda do what you want with carbs and responceable taking normal insulin but just going a day being "normal" ? im guilty of those days i have been a diabetic for 22 years and one of those days are so nice to have

Pros Freedom, no Extra bulky ness, access to insulin on ttc and calculations are done for me! Cons Less control no suspension mode and temp basal

I’ve only done MDI for.. 35 years. One thing I’m experiencing now that I’m in Toronto, is figuring out how to carry a Fiasp pen in this constant heat. I found something by Frio in England that is a gel cooler shaped for pens. I fear I’m on a bit of a rollercoaster with sugar rises in the middle of the night, but not really sure if that is a sign of not taking enough Tresiba or not as it isn’t consistently rising, and was fine for six weeks. This past month is another story. (recent convert from Humalin N) Any overall suggestions on taking more Tresiba? The super long acting aspect of it just sort of makes me a bit nervous in adjusting it.
