I cried when you read the journal entry. I hated that so much of my pregnancy was filled with diabetes guilt, even though I had great control. Thank you for sharing, you’re creating a resource I wish had been available to me! Wishing you the best birth and newborn days!!

Thank you so much for this insight! My diabetic counselor lacked sympathy and I cant believe I made it past my 1st trimester. I am following a balanced diet and it is going well for my sugars but I am very scared to indulge in the slightest. The counselor gave me a lot risk talk and made me feel very guilty to the point that I had initial appointment at 10 weeks and will not return.

So thankful for your pregnancy recap video. I’ve been struggling with fertility issues and pregnancy fear (what an ironic mental toll lol) lately. It’s nice to hear from your point of view. Helps ease some of my fears. You and Raffi are going to be great parents! So excited for you

Hi Michelle! I also got diagnosed with hypothyroidism (during the fertility clinic’s blood work)! My first trimester was mostly a lot of lows, followed by crazy resistance at the end of my second trimester (and honestly - pretty continuously after that). I had slight nausea but nothing too crazy! Wish I would’ve had your book😊 seems like lots of good info in there! Best of luck for your last 4 weeks! ❤️

What you're doing is amazing and helps to understand things with T1D better 🙏 You're positive, tireless and motivated on managing T1D and life well 🙂Wishing you all the very best with everything and a very safe delivery ❤ keep up the great work!

I really enjoyed watching this, Michelle. Having followed you sporadically over the past several years and after having my first baby last Nov., I was thrilled to see you now doing videos about your pregnancy! Congratulations! I could relate to lots of your reflections. So glad you emphasized the reality that we strive to stay in range but it's not possible to have perfect BG, especially during pregnancy!! I also spent about 85% of my first trimester horizontally, thanks to "Morning" Sickness! Lastly, I learned a lot about what I will eat differently in the first trimester, lime juice popsicles were the bomb to help with the nausea! Did you find any foods that became a staple for you that were OK for your BG control?
@kaitlincovington6773 жыл бұрын
I’m almost 34 weeks pregnant. And my first trimester was different from yours. I had sooooo many lows. I had morning sickness pretty much from week 6-13 so I couldn’t really eat anything. But so happy for you guys! Not much longer!

Hi Michelle 👋🏻 Very informative, thanks ! Almost 36 weeks pregnant here 😚 I didn’t have any insulin resistance during the first trimester, quite the opposite actually. I was constantly eating sugar as I had a lot of lows. Especially around mealtime when I injected insulin, started to eat then felt so sick I couldn’t finish my plate 🙄 It started around month 2 and lasted for about 6 to 8 weeks. I almost didn’t take any insulin. At that time I also remember that my mood was quite terrible. I felt so much anger, it was crazy. Looking back, I think I should have reached for mental health support, like you did. Second trimester was quite easy until week 24… and then…. BAM ! The insulin resistance kicked my butt 😂
@Hakkasha3 жыл бұрын
I laugh about it but it’s honestly so hard… you feel so much guilt when you’re are high and cannot go down, despite all the insulin you inject. Two weeks ago I stayed up until 3 am, crying because I ate fries and my blood sugar was stuck at 200. Long walks really do help but sometimes it can be SO frustrating, as we all type 1 know 🤷🏻♀️ Anyway, I’m still very lucky to have a healthy pregnancy and I really do enjoy every moment of it !

I’m actually in limbo kind of right now with Hashimoto’s because I also have the autoantibodies, but no clinical diagnosis. My TSH was elevated once with no symptoms a couple years ago, but normal after that. I’m hoping I can go as long as possible without meds! I don’t look forward to having to wait 30 minutes to eat breakfast 😩
@MichelleLord3 жыл бұрын
That sounds very similar to me! I will actually be going off the meds once I deliver to see if I need them anymore. I hope you can hold off on starting meds, but it honestly isn't that bad to take them 💖

Father of 2 here. How has Rafi been during the pregnancy? Is he feeling ready to have a little one around? I felt like I was prepared with my first, and I somewhat was, but there were aspects I had never thought of. My advice is to start preparing for less sleep now, so it's less of a shock when you're up at 3am with a crying baby. Also, find some strong coffee to help on the mornings after long nights. Congrats and best of luck in the coming weeks/months!
@MichelleLord3 жыл бұрын

Hi Michelle it is so helpful what you are doing !!! when i was younger i had the desire to habe a child but my Diabetes management was a Desaster i felt i had no support and the insulinpump i used were still at the beginning now i m 40 and glad my husband didn't want the responsibility so we dicided against it. im on the Dexcom since November and maybe i will try a pump again after 14 years on pens ?? ;-) All the best for the birth
@MichelleLord3 жыл бұрын
I'm so sorry that you felt you didn't have the support you needed. It is so hard to find support as people with type 1 diabetes, and it shouldn't be that way :( I hope you have been liking the Dexcom so far! Thank you for the well wishes ❤️

Thank you for sharing! How did you manage a full time job early on? Did you tell your employer before 12 weeks?
@MichelleLord3 жыл бұрын
Yes, my employer actually knew before they hired me. I wanted to be fully transparent. They were aware that I was a "high-risk" pregnancy, and that I would be attending a lot of appointments. Managing a full-time job with the pregnancy was what I personally found to be the most challenging. It required a lot of extra hours at night to catch up!

Did you have any experience with lows or scary lows during the first half of pregnancy? Sorry I might’ve missed you talking about this but I’m curious!
@MichelleLord3 жыл бұрын
Yes! No worries at all, I talk about this at 14:53 :) I had mainly insulin resistance for my 1st trimester, but then sometime around 10-13 weeks my insulin needs drastically decreased (to the point where I was taking very little insulin) and I started experience sudden and severe lows.
@chrissyfoley73613 жыл бұрын
I’m confused. How can you start producing any insulin if you’re a Type1? I thought our pancreas was dead. Maybe a dumb question but I don’t understand how that’s possible. 😊
@josettebassett37343 жыл бұрын
Chrissy Foley some Type 1's still have some functioning Beta cells. Gradually they also get attacked by the autoimmune response by the person's body, later in life.

It's been 40 years since I was pregnant. I had lots of support from my doctors my OB doc was a T1 D himself. But of course we did not have the technology that you have today. All 3 of my babies were delivered c-section. Not sure about women today, are you having a C section. I know you are going to have a beautiful healthy baby.

Mine was a csection 12 years ago and 8 years ago. Type one since 12. I trialed labour but was induced and got too tired

Hi Joanne! It really depends on the OB, but at my clinic they aim for a vaginal delivery unless there are complications. So far I'm planning on delivering vaginally, but we will see what happens! I'm open to whatever is safest for the baby. Thank you so much 😊
