I really appreciate that you both took the time to make these videos. I have had a Medtronic pump since 2002. I am due for a new pump and have been struggling with the decision of which company I would like to work with. You really brought to life real world questions/problems from diabetics and not from sales people. Very good job! Thanks again!

Oneida Richard Type 2 diabetic for 35 years. I use insulin pens. When I see my doctor at the end of the month I am going to ask about CGM plus check with my insurance to see the cost. I am 74 so I am retired and on Medicare. I do enjoy watching your videos. I have learned a lot about being diabetic from KZbin. Keep up the good work with your videos. Enjoy your new job. Thank you.

Great job, girls. I found this very entertaining. As a type I (for 35 years) I am now employed in the pump sales arena and it is interesting to hear that your views are pretty aligned with the general population of pumpers. There are benefits to both pumps, and I believe there really is not a bad pump out there!

I'm so glad that you posted this video! I finally have the chance to get an insulin pump after waiting for almost 3 years. When my doctor asked me what kind of pump I was interested in, I immediately said Medtronic, and since then I haven't stopped stressing about whether I made the correct choice. After watching this, I feel comfortable with my decision as the difference between pumps seems pretty insignificant. I'm getting purple. :)

We decided on the Animas Ping for my 3-year old mainly for the remote and waterproof options. She has worn her pump in the pool and bathtub. It's very waterproof. The remote option is fantastic for a busy toddler who doesn't have the patience to wait while you dig the pump out of her pouch and unlock it and bolus her. Haha.

I know other type 1's like me, but I am not close friends with them. It must be great having a type 1 as a friend who understands all of your problems and even help you if you ever have a problem.
@susanmallady660910 жыл бұрын
I chose Animas for the .25 of 1 unit dosing. I am so sensitive to insulin this small amount has made a world of difference for me. Last month I forgot I had my pump on when I jumped into the ocean. It remained water proof for 10 feet and 20 minutes of salt water. Love the Animas company too! Staffed by a majority of diabetics.
@StevenErcolani11 жыл бұрын
Just a comment on the waterproof feature of the Animas. I do a lot of water sports and even swimming with my pump which is one of the reasons I choose Animas. Unless there is a crack in the pump, you shouldn't have any problem with taking it into the water.
@dr.amy.j11 жыл бұрын
I wore it scuba diving underneath a dry suit- I believe the problem was with the pressure at that depth, but it did get a bit wet during that time as well. I don't like taking off my pump when I dive as I very quickly start to feel my blood sugar rising and this makes my mouth dry. Breathing the already-dry air through a regulator in combination with a dry mouth makes for a bad diving experience indeed! -Amy

I have not had the same trouble [case cracking, button trouble] on the animus [507?]. I had medtronic rebel recently. I am currently on a t-slim and have loved it until about a week ago. I began to experience pump motor problems when reloading a cartridge. I called Tandem for assistance; advised to keep an eye on it because their error history log did not show the pump motor errors. This struck me as strange. I did as advised and was successful in loading the cartridge the last time, by plugging the pump in. When I needed to change the cartridge this morning, I got the same pump error message. I called Tandem, as had been instructed, and they decided that it was a pump motor problem. They offered to send a replacement pump, but it could take as much as 36 hours, due to the weekend. Any time I've had similar needs for replacement from Animas or Medtronic, I was able to get the replacement the next day, regardless of whether it was the weekend. I asked the Tandem representative if they'd experienced this problem before and he indicated they had. I wondered why they had not been more proactive in sending out replacements before the original pump completely quit working. Current status - I have no pump - I have to shoot fast-acting insulin via syringe every two hours for up to the next 36 hours. This is unacceptable. I do want to mention that I specifically asked for a replacement pump three days ago, when I first reported this to Tandem, and Tandem denied my request. With this type of customer service, I suspect that Tandem will go belly-up soon.

Thank you for all your videos Danica! My daughter (13) and I are watching many videos and reading reviews, trying to make a decision about what pump to get this month. It's exciting! She already has the Dexcom G4 and we're loving it. She may be eligible for the G5 upgrade, but I haven't looked into the differences yet. We've narrowed our pump choice down to the Animas or Minimed. Does your Animas have a remote? My daughter wears dresses often, and I didn't see a remote option for the Animas. Have you ever wished you could change to the Minimed for any reason, while using your Animas? Thanks!

Min Diabetes I have been a diabetic for 18 years as well I was diagnosed at 3 and now I'm 21. I have been on the pump since 2004 I have had the Minimed paradigm 712, revel 723 and the animas ping. I just got off the revel 723 and got the Minimed 530G system. I would wait until spring of 2017 and get the 670G

2003SaturnFan Hey! Im from denmark so we are not getting the 670 until 2018. and they are usually behind :D so we might have to wait until 2019-2020 . but after 4 years on a pump i can switch :-) so for example i can get the omnipod for 4 years - until 2020 and then switch to the 670 :)

I've been pumping since 2004. Started on the Deltec Cozmo which was my favorite but unfortunately went out of business. Then switched to the Animas Ping and currently on Minimed Paradigm. The deal breaker for me with the Animas was the need to prime the pump every time I had to change the battery... That was a pain specially if I had to change the battery while at work since I had to go somewhere to take disconnect from the pump (because of the priming) just to change a battery... That was very annoying... besides that I did not had any major issues with the Ping that I can recall. Have not had any issues with the Minimed either but its good not having to get "undressed" to change a baterry while at work... Though lately my A1C has been on the rise, I am not sure it has anything to do with the pump itself.

QUESTION FOR AMY: How do you manage your sugars with SCUBA? I'm planing on doing the PADI AOW course soon (my last dive/OW certification was pre-dx and probably kept me out of a coma). Also, what were you doing with your pump that broke it? If you were trying to dive while connected, what was your setup? So many questions! Thanks, K

Animas is waterproof up to 12 feet for 24 hours. The when the paradigm 511 came out they said it was waterproof then they started having cases of damaged housings and stopped claiming it was waterproof then they started staying it was splash resistant

I have a important question about the Dexcom G4! I test my blood sugar about 4-8 times a day, and I was wondering if I could enter my blood sugar into the Dexcom every time I do check. Or would that mess it up? The manual says " This could mess up the device if blood sugar is collaborated less than every 12 hours."

Danica, what has your experience with animas warranty been like? Their website says limited warranty on manufacturer's defects only, whereas Medtronic says they cover everything pretty much. I really want dexcom for my DD but the warranty is making me nervous. (our insurance allows one pump every five years) ...my DD is four if that makes a difference.

1. If Amy's pump isn't waterproof, why did she wear it scuba diving? 2. Can you fix a waterlogged insulin pump by putting it in rice like an iPod? 3. If names like "Vibe" and "Revel" ("Rebel?") are supposed to make diabetes sound cool, then maybe someday, there'll be a insulin pump called the Danica (or the Amy).

Please Amy don't ever remove your infusion resevoir. When you do this, it allows for possible suction for lack of a better term lol and can actually cause your entire contents of insulin to swoosh into your body. My daughter used to do this, once she did it at her endo's and she was like "OMG! No, never remove it without detaching from your body first." In years we had never been told that. Helpful hint lol
@SaturnIonQCVTi8 жыл бұрын
Tania Risko never heard of that and never had it happen. Been a diabetic for 18 years. Not saying it couldn't happen
@taniasue8 жыл бұрын
My daughters been type I since 3, she's 19 now. Several of her endos have warned us as well as a mini med rep. They're not saying every time it'll happen, but it has before, hard to counterbalance 100+ units then.
@SaturnIonQCVTi8 жыл бұрын
+Tania Risko yeah I wouldn't I was always told that if I have to remove the reservoir to suspend the pump first. I was also diagnosed at 3 years old and I'm 21 now. My dad and great aunt are also type 1 diabetics. My great aunt had something like that happen to her though. She went to the doctor and they took her pump off and took the pump and left her the tubing and everything well they brought it back and hooked her back up and she ended up in the Er because she/they did a accidental dose.
