A free virtual event for students of all ages & genders interested in a career in science or medicine
The Krembil Research Institute at UHN will be hosting a free 1-hour virtual event on February 9, 2024 from 10-11am ET, in recognition of the UN’s International Day of Women and Girls in Science. All registrants will also receive a recorded link.
This free public outreach event is geared to middle school, high school and early university students of all ages & affiliations, and is a unique opportunity to hear from trailblazing scientists and clinicians working on discoveries that could help cure arthritis, vision and brain disease.
Drs. Tina Felfeli (Donald K. Johnson Eye Institute), Nikita Looby (Schroeder Arthritis Institute) and Nardin Samuel (Krembil Brain Institute) will each give short, student-friendly talks on what inspired them to get into science & medicine, how challenges and obstacles along the way shaped their career paths, and why they love science and find their careers so rewarding!
The event, moderated by Dr. Chika Stacy Oriuwa, physician, advocate for racialized and marginalized populations, and one of Time magazine’s “2021 Next Generational Leaders,” is aimed at anyone with an interest in learning about the paths leading to a future career in science or medicine.
Our goal at UHN is to find new treatments and cures for the diseases that affect us all. Combining basic science and clinical research is how we will make these discoveries together.
‘Science achieves little if it stays in the lab’ and that is our mission - to make science and research more accessible and engaging to everyone, for the benefit of everyone.
