The history of nasi Kandar- it’s original name is Tamil - காண்டா சோறு - Kandaa Choru - in early days oldermuslim Tamils will carry the rice and all other curry, vegetables and tuvaiyal. The Atta will serve the food on a leaf and package it with old new paper. It’s normally start early morning on the side walk serving for fishermen comeback from sea in early morning. Also some will be serve on late night. Now the idea have changed all sitting in shop lots also the name is changed into Malay as Nasi Kandar. ( Kandaa is mangrove woods that used to carry loads on shoulder in rubber estate )

Yes the last Muslim Atta that sold on Kandaa was I think around 1984 or 1985. I have eaten many times from them. The last one was selling around 1985. After that the second generation Muslims took it to next level. But believe me those days Kandaa Choru were very simple and tasted much better. It’s more natural taste not with added flavors. But the only thing is really can call Kandaa Choru is with pudina tuvaiyal ( pudina chutney and steamed bendi/ladies finger )

நான் பாம்பு, பூச்சி சாப்பிட தயாரும் இல்லை, என்ன பொரித்த எண்ணையில் எங்களுக்கும் பொரிக்கிறாங்களோ என்ற பயம், இந்த சாப்பாடு செய்ற கடையில் தேனீர் கூட வாங்கி குடிக்க மாட்டேன். நாங்களும் மலேசியாவில் ஒரு இந்தியன் உணவகத்தில் 20 நிமிடம் வரிசையில் நின்றோம் ( உணவகத்தின் பெயர் சீனி சட்டி ) தொடர்ந்து நின்று பசி பொறுக்காமல் பின்னர் வேறு இடத்தில் தான் சாப்பிட்டோம். இதுவரைக்கும் நான் போன நாடுகளில் எனக்கு உணவுக்கு பிடித்த நாடு என்றால் மலேசியா தான்

The Indian Muslims are very expert in cooking. I will also recommend you "mee goreng/fried spicy noodle" in Muslim restaurents.
