This is one of my favourite songs of all time and one of the first 'djent/progressive' songs I'd ever heard.
You may notice this is the EP version of this song. At the time of recording this video, the band had not released their full length which came out later in 2011.
Guitar - Schecter Hellraiser C-1
Tuning - Drop A (but Volumes plays on 7 string)
DAW - Cockos Reaper
Guitar tone - Amplitube 3 Plug-in
Strings - Ernie Ball 12-56
Tabs - tabs.ultimate-g....
I also used a video uploaded by Volumes themselves on / volumesband to help me learn this song.
Thanks for the view guys :)
Jack

So psyched to see this upload mate! You deserve a lot of kudos for each video you make, regardless of how long the wait is, because the amount of effort you put in is unparalleled. This is such incredible shit you churn out. I'm so stoked to have showed you this song, and now you are helping this band getting some more exposure :). And on the technical front, this seems to be the best of yours yet. Beautiful playing, tone and composure. Angles were smooth and intuitive, absolutely amazing. ILY

Can't fucking wait dude. And also, this video is so epic, it has inspired me to get back into guitar covers completely, I plan to do as many as I can handle before going to Europe! So thanks so much dude. Talk soon aye

@xXFallenKinghtXx They tune their 7 strings down to drop A, so I was able to do so with mine and just convert the tab so that it's playable on a 6 string. It sounds nearly exactly the same, the only difference is if they used a note up around the 19th-24th fret on the high E I would not be able to play it. But since this song doesn't have any of that it is completely do-able.

@guitarman0424 Nope not this time! I have moved on from my zoom. My newest recording method is similar, but the sound editing is done on the computer. I record the dry sound from my pic-ups onto the computer through my interface onto my DAW Cockos Reaper and use the plug in "Amplitube 3" to get my guitar tone. Amplitube is an amp simulator program which allows you to get any sound you can even think of. I also do some small EQing just to make my guitar stand out in the mix a little more.

@KLZOMBIE That's great man you'll love them :) This song actually took me quite a while, because it was so hard for me to remember the strumming patterns and breakdown patters etc. All up it took me about...10 hours maybe? Spaced out over 3 days. But I am a very slow learner.

@ACLeftyGuitar Good question, but I only record one guitar track which is centre panned. Sometimes I add a second guitar for small harmony sections where one would be panned left and the other right, but I have only done that a couple times.

@ACLeftyGuitar I use the eq that is supplied with my DAW which is reaper. It's a simple plug-in called ReaEQ and its very basic but quite good. I might add some reverb just to widen it a little and I've more recently been learning compression, so nothing very hard ;)

@Archeum94 That's a hard question for me to answer dude. But basiclly, the genre of djent originally came from the 'djent' sound which is made by cutting most bass frequencies, running through a noise gate and heavilly chugging 4 stringed powerchords (Normal powercord with the 2nd octave ontop). The djent genre usually consists of very complex strumming and breakdown patterns and time signatures and shit like that. Bands like Periphery, Volumes, Meshuggah, Veil of Maya. Many more!

@JackMcGrathMusic
@JackMcGrathMusic 12 жыл бұрын
I know exactly what you mean! Although this is the genre that feels best for me to play, mostly because it's where the picking hand becomes more important than fretboard hand, and gives your memory quite a workout too with those awkward breakdown patterns. I don't really have any tips, but if you want some bands like this one to listen to then try Structures, Erra, Periphery and After The Burial, although those bands are a fair bit more technical than Volumes but all great music nethertheless.

In this video I used 12-56 but I have since changes to 13-64. Only way to get this guage that I'm aware of is to buy a set of Ernie Ball 8 strings and dispose of the top and bottom string.

@utubeis4homos Good tip, but I actually used to do that but since I have been in a band I kind of lost it because it's much more fun to over exhagerate in my opinion. I get bored when my fingers hardly have to move and unless I have to shred then over moving my fingers doesn't seem to affect my playing.

13-64 is the best for this kind of tuning, since its so low, I didnt learn this song yet, bu ti know edge of the earth is drop G# (or drop F if you wanna get technical). but i only have 11-70, its really loose though. i dont like it, but to have 13-64 on my guitar i would have to file down the rest of the nut to make a string that big fit on my guitar. i got some work to do.

@harmonicminorshred Haha no worries man, I have the same problem all the time. I am 177cm tall, (5'9" or 5'10"). The shirt is a M and is almost too small but just fits. It only shrank a little in the wash. I also bought an After The Burial and Periphery shirt in L from that same site and I had to try and shink them because they were too big but fit me alright now, but still just a little bit too big. Hope that helps haha good luck bro.
