Hello Mark. Engine light came on and diagnosis were the codes P200A/P2004 on my 2013 Hyundai Tucson. I just replaced my IMRC for a 2013 Tucson after watching and following your video. Unfortunately engine light is still on. Not sure if I need to drive a few miles before it clears or disconnect battery? I did drive to local auto parts store to retest and code appeared again, saying stuck open. Any suggestions? Thank you
@DoubleClutchAutoReviews Жыл бұрын
Hmmmm Interesting. Did you end up trying to clear it with an OBDII scanner? My girlfriend and I were lucky, because the code cleared on its own. You might have to go in and actually physically clear it yourself for it to go away. If that doesn’t work, it might be something else. I would then scan it again, and check to see if any new codes come up. If no new codes come up, but it still has a check engine light, and you still can’t exactly pinpoint it, I might bring it to your local trusted mechanic, or a good friend with a high-quality scan tool. Other than that, replacing the IMRC should have cleared that code. Please feel free to let me know how you end up making out! I’m very interested to see what it ends up being. Also, thank you so much for checking video! I really appreciate the fact that you watched it, and actually used it to help you fix your car. That means a lot! 1. "P two hundred four" and P two thousand four" are very different numbers. good thing you put the proper code onscreen. 2. I was quoted $148 from Rockauto 8/20/2022 for Dorman 911922, not a dealer-only part. 3. When you remove bolts holding something on, first crack them all loose, then remove; that way you'll not waste time if one of them gives more trouble than expected. You did it right on reassembly, hardest one first. A short extension on the socket would be helpful, you only used it to tighten to final torque. Good, you're learning;) 4. When things are tightly fitted, such as the air intake tube to the throttle body, a little thin smear of dielectric grease (silicone grease) will help them fit, and could eliminate tiny leaks too. 5. Looks like the coolant hose should be reinstalled BEFORE the air filter assembly goes back on. 6. "as tight as it can go" means different things to different persons. For some, it's more like "tighten until it starts to strip, then back off a quarter turn". DON'T DO THAT. Curious that clamps on the various hoses are the style shown - I was used to the (old style?) screw clamps. I guess that's so the screw clamps don't get crammed on too tightly and cut hose (see #6 above). Also unexpected that the codes stored didn't have to be cleared - they "went away" by themselves. Or did you clear them and not show that? All up, well done. Deserved and got a Like from me.

@DoubleClutchAutoReviews2 жыл бұрын
Tsz Wong You're welcome! I'm very glad you liked it. Do you live in a very cold climate? Do you REALLY need an engine block heater? If yes, there are many different types of block heaters that are very easy to install/use. Others are much more complicated, (for instance an inline heater) and require professional level knowledge/tools to install. I would say just buy an oil pan heating pad or an engine block heating blanket. Those require zero installation abilities or headache and take only a few minutes of your time. Plug it in and slap it on! Use a timer to turn it on a few hours before you plan to drive for early morning ventures. Don't forget to unplug it either! Run the cord over your driver's side mirror so you won't forget and have a bad start to your day. I hope this helps, and thanks for watching! -Mark

But what actually failed? The motor or the plastic coupler? The plastic intakes are prone to warpage, can cause the runner flaps to stick. They should move freely so need to verify that's not binding before tossing parts at it.

As far as I could tell, it was purely the IMRC motor that failed. This repair fixed the issue immediately. You have a great point to check the runner flaps though. Make sure you won't need to fix and/or replace those instead of/in addition to the IMRC!

I have a sonata 2012 with the similar problem. But when I called the dealer, they said my model does not come with an Engine Intake Manifold Runner Vacuum Actuator. They said that I am probably thinking of the Vis Actuator part number 28321-2G700. Does this part for the sonata 2012 serve the same function as the intake runner in your video?
@DoubleClutchAutoReviews3 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure if that specific part performs the same function in your Sonata as the intake manifold runner controller does in the Tucson. However, that part does not look like anything like the other. I would guess that they are two different parts for different functions. What engine codes are you getting on your scan?
@Alex-qe2lf3 жыл бұрын
No, i have not gotten an engine light - so no code for the problem yet. My wife has had a random low acceleration for a couple of days but i have not personally experienced it myself. That particular part is located on the opposite side of the engine (left and not right) with an actuator terminates at the intake manifold. And since it also terminates at the air intake, i just assume that it is regulating the air. I am unable to find any youtube fix for my 2012 sonata but there is a 2017 sonata youtube fix and the runner is clearly on the upper right side .

Hello, what kind of problem does the car present when it fails?
@DoubleClutchAutoReviews2 жыл бұрын
Hello Alexander! It will throw a check engine light (CEL) and read the codes P200A/P2004. This will indicate an issue with the intake manifold runner controller (IMRC). I believe what happens specifically is that the IMRC no longer opens and closes as it should, leading to worse emissions, a possible reduction in power, and worse fuel economy. My girlfriend didn't notice anything drastically wrong with her car when it happened, except for the CEL. In Massachusetts, vehicles newer than 15 years old legally need an inspection sticker every year, and her car wouldn't pass it with the CEL. I hope that helps!

Who needs torque specs? Certainly not this guy and his cousin..from Boston. Seriously tho kid. It was wicked funny. It was a good video. The real question is…….Did it work? And for future reference, if a Dealer tells you it’s a “dealer part”. Take it with a grain of salt. He’s not technically lying. However, you can find most OEM parts online. Just not that exact part. (Which is guaranteed to be double $$$)
@DoubleClutchAutoReviews3 жыл бұрын
Lol, I'm actually from NY originally, I just live in MA now, (not Boston either). I know torque specs are always recommended to be 100% thorough. However, I did not think they were really necessary for this specific repair. Obviously, if anyone were to say they are very particular, and want to be absolutely sure they did it right, I would always say torque all of the bolts to spec. I believe other repairs, like spark plug changes for instance, are much more important to torque them down to spec. And yes, it did work! Almost a year later, and it's still holding strong. As far as the part finding endeavour goes, I looked all over the place, and I couldn't find this exact OEM part anywhere, except at the dealer unfortunately. If you find a proper OEM replacement IMRC that's not from the dealer for a decent price, good on you. That's why voting for the right to repair law was such a big deal in MA, and I'm very happy it passed. My girlfriend especially, as well as I, also didn't want to mess around and take a chance with a "like OEM" part. To both of us, the extra money is worth getting the correct part, not some crappy knock-off version for instance. Also, I actually only spent less than $150 on this IMRC. I've seen them listed at $250 plus elsewhere. Since the repair worked flawlessly, and it's still holding up to this day, I would say just get it from the dealer for $150, save yourself the heartache, and fix it right the first time.
