As someone who only got a B In 8th grade algebra like 20+ years ago this is blowing me away. I want to be able to understand this kind of stuff better so thank you for putting content like this out.

This might be some confusion over terminology but i wanted to clarify for my understanding. Which is, in method of joints we refer to if the joint is under compression or tension. However in your example you refer to the beam being in compression or tension. I think you must have meant the joint as the forces were acting opposite to what you said when you referred to the beam. Example - You said beam AC was under tension but you have the forces acting towards each other, which would be compression, leaving the corresponding joints in tension. I hope you can understand, I just want to make sure my understanding is good. Thanks v much for the example it's very useful and exactly what I was trying to solve at work.

In working through trusses there is some ambiguity surrounding convention. Do we show the forces acting BY the beams ON the joints, or do we show the forces acting ON the beams BY the joints. In the two cases the forces will be shown with equal magnitude, yet opposite direction. I typically show forces BY beams / members ON joints, since it is the net force ON the joint that must be zero in any axis to keep things nice and static; but not everyone does things my way...

Thanks, in the UK we state whether the joint is in compression or tension. 👍

Right.I think the load in the member becomes the opposite type load at the web!!! A web in tension puts a compressive load at the web.

Man, the speed you release this fantastic content.. Humanity has a chance so long as there's people like you doing things like this! Thank you for educating people! =) Btw have you tried doing ads on facebook? If you make them as posts on your page but share them manually to groups of people who will appreciate the content, they spread like 10-50x further easily. 20 bucks can get you 100k views if you do it in big enough groups (200k members+, 5-10 groups). I want to see your channel grow! 6k subs is way too low for you, my dude. Manage the audience settings, too. You can get amazing results if you limit it to the most likely interested age groups, gender, locations, etc., but don't limit it too much with specific Likes or anything. Would take 30 minutes, away from making videos, for you to do it lol ;)

What happens if B is also a hinge, not a roller

If B is a pin, the member AB can be removed; The other two beams will be unaffected.

You can get rid of member AB... The loads in the other two members do not change , and B supports the vertical load that used to be in AB.

Its almost like getting something for nothing when the force acting through BC is more than double the load applied ios this how scissor jacks work
