@@SuperPenguinpenguin I made the calculation later for EG, and it's equal to zero. But if there's zero reaction, why even have a member there? What's the point of having a structural member with zero force? Why not just remove it then?

@@martinAbC for loads -- ie a bridge needs to handle movement of cars, wind, etc. it's just that the current forces don't make use of the member, but it would have purpose in another situation

You have a small mistake at the end of the video Calculating HE (should be 3.54 or(2.5/sin(45)= 2.5*2/√2) not 3.34) this means that DE is an even 12 not 11.86) Hope this is helpful. Exactly what I got, but DE should be in compression. Remember when you are substituting for HE to get DE, you put in -3.54 coz it's in compression. And the overall outcome is negative, so it's in compression.

Hey senior @jeff, the value of HE is 3.54kips in compression whereas the value of DE is 12Kips in compression as well. It doesn't matter if you take your left as positive and vice versa. Thanks btw

Jeff, I got confused when you were solving for DE. It looks like force DE and 3.34*cos45 should have the same direction. so I am thinking the Fx force summation is 0=9.5-3.34*cos45-DE. Can anyone clarify this for me and much appreciated.
