Interesting to know the results of No Fap, is Steve implying that by forcing oneself to follow this, you're essentially creating a new dogma which could destroy you in other ways?
@jungtolivebyafterdark4 жыл бұрын
@@paulmessis1985 Hi Paul, the best way in a broadly Jungian sense is always to apply the following linear progression for consideration: Instincts - Archetypes - Complexes - Collective. In other words, what instincts need to be considered (actions,drives, frustrations) then what archetypes (lifespan development, frustration of archetypal intent etc) then personal complexes (associated learning - ego-identified, ego-aligned, ego-unaligned, alter-ego etc) then, what socio-cultural factors. If you start with instincts, you get a base-line or default-setting, perspective about what drives or innate patterns are at work (eg. Instinctive pressures). Then work through. At each level, apply the question, and see what answer you get. In effect you'll get a time-line of adaptation or maladptationm and see what compensations may be at work in your overall homeostasis.

A very high-quality and wide-ranging discussion. Although I am in a technical profession, I have always sought out the arts and humanities to have a more balanced life and personal development, with the amateur study of psychology as a part of that. A significant part of personal development is finding those personalities in your own personal life, and in the broader culture that can influence you for the better, to interact with and help you grow in directions that you need to. So I am glad to have discovered this site. Thank you for the time and effort to create it.

Really intrigued by the section on Possession by another’s personality. Growing up evangelical, I was taught from infancy to systematically subject myself to possession by Christ - that is, by the concept of a dead guy as presented by preachers and books and my own imagination - and utterly crush my own will. I did this for 23 years. 14 years later, I’m still trying to untangle the epic mess that made of my ego. The quest continues, but I connected a few dots listening to this. Thanks.

This channel is very interesting. I've developed an interest in this type of Psychology after I realized that "enlightenment" is a real thing, but it's something that is quite earth shattering, permanent and life changing... an experience I don't feel at this point in my life, I am ready to handle yet. I realized I must get my life and psyche optimized as much as possible before "enlightenment/individuation/satori/moksha/liberation" occurs. That being said, I am enjoying the content of this channel. I find it a tad too jargony and overly scientific at times for my naturally artistic INFP personality :P, but I'm getting the hang of it and I feel things resonating! I've watched the videos and read the manual about Shadow Integration, and I like the concept illustrated there... but I still don't really understand WHAT and HOW to integrate it, as it is described there. Maybe I missed that in the manual and in the videos? Some further clarification would be great! Also, I would love your opinions and reactions to a man known as UG Krishnamurti. (Not Jiddu Krishnamurti... UG Krishnamurti... there are MANY hours of him talking on KZbin). He's someone who went through the enlightenment experience I mentioned earlier... but his description of it is WAY different than the "bliss, oneness, cosmic consciousness' woowoo quite often spouted by new age gurus and spiritual prophets. I think you would dig him, and would enjoy his purely BIOLOGICAL and PHYSICAL explanation of his psychological state and the experience of enlightenment he went through (or 'calamity'... as he calls it). Cheers!

I had this idea that in "decadent cultures" to use a Nietzschean phrase, the collective shadow will be projected onto one's own nation or even species. Here in the states (where we aren't perfect) there's this new collectivist movement amongst badly adjusted young people that tends to blame our particular country on all the world's woes (which is evolutionarily absurd). I believe this drive and projection is a form of self condemnation from a generation who is full of unaddressed complexes.

James mentioned age of aquarius and erasment of consciousness which can be very painful experience and extremely dangerous one too , but isn't it the whole idea behind alchemical transformation, and when it comes to self reflection and understanding Jung's works, it only becomes possible if one has experienced it on himself. Correct me if I'm wrong but Even jung himself was transferred to a mental at some point during his life.
@jungtolivebyafterdark4 жыл бұрын
Hi Simone, Jung wasn't ever 'institutionalized' although he did go through a process of deep structure confrontation with the unconscious. With alchemy, I think it'll depend on where someone is on their journey, and, the approach they take to understanding what they regard as alchemy. I've seen people go through that process and not know how it was conceived of, as being 'alchemy' it was just a natural process. For me, the process comes first and then the modelling of it as a theory, after. It's like the difference between natural individuation which happens 'naturally' at its own pace, and then the more 'artificial' process which is accelerated by following a specific path. Best, Steve.

RE: Shadow manual link: 1) when entering email address for free maunual download, the field box inserts a after the @ sign, requiring correction (no big deal, just saying); and after 2 attempts, no email drop whatsoever and yes, checked spam folder; in fact looked at all mail in gmail. Other than that, this video here is a big leap in a practical understanding of 'shadow' as compared to just reading Jung's works. Good ol' Carl used superflous jargon (!) in his writings which make for LOTS of re-reads of his texts. Still, his writings are somehow compelling enough to warrant a hunger for more of such. I got caught up in Jungian concepts from the mid-2000's due to seeking Freudian concepts to self-behaviors, and find Jungian concepts more sophisticated and yet more palatable than his former mentor/colleague Freud. Is there a reason why this causes someone to be sacrificed? Is it inevitable that eventually someone will have to channel this force and cause the change?
@jungtolivebyafterdark4 жыл бұрын
@@jakemchardy8785 It's happened enough times in history to suggest its reasonable to factor in the possibility. Given the way power constellates, someone will have to 'head-up' the force for change. The extent to which they are a 'loner' and an 'original' will definitely affect the strength of the tidal psychological forces (which are collective) that they 'channel'. Founders of religions, and political movements are usually buffered by the structures that arise around them. Loners are the most vulnerable, and being a loner can mean simply having more followers than compatriots. That said, even political leaders are not immune - Mikhail Gorbachev was 'scarified' politically, after the fall of the Soviet block, as was Winston Churchill in the 1945 UK General Election. Sacrifice comes in many forms. Loners stand the most to lose as their entire personality (their individual, limited, Ego personality) is on the line in the face of immense forces from the Collective Unconscious.

What would a pragmatic jungian solution be?

We'll do this, and a video on OCD too, as both are very similar as psychic mechanisms. Its anima related though - your 'relationship' to the path is skewed (anima is the relating factor). Ask yourself - do I enjoy my work? And take it from there.

In my opinion, because you are frequently trying to be productive, you tend to repress the lazy and unproductive side of yourself, which enters in conflict with your productive side. I guess it has to do with a research I saw a couple of months ago that related productivity with letting positive and negative feelings flow. I think what you could to do is find the part in your work/studies that directly speaks with stuff you like, removing the bad appearences from it. I should mention as well that you should also seek some medical assistance if the problem persists, like taking Adderal or a stimulant, altough I have no idea if that could cause a psychological imbalance. (and sorry for any typos or grammar mistakes)

You mentioned Hitler in regards to an improper individuation. Would it not be more accurate to say that he was consumed by his Shadow?
@JungToLiveBy2 жыл бұрын
Hi William. Many thanks, no, I would not. He was a psychopath (as diagnosed by Jung), and so in terms of a simple polarity model of the Shadow, his would be the opposite of his innate and manifest personality - that is, it’d be highly social in a positive and gregarious sense, kind, loving, forgiving and generous. He had an innate predisposition to becoming what he became, and in that sense he ‘Individuated’ as he acted out that potential in full, including his mythopoetic inflation and identification with ‘collective representations’ within his native culture, what Jungians fancifully call ‘archetypes’. He was someone who opportunistically met with the zeitgeist of the age and through corrupted instinct and the power-drive to manifest them fulfilled the progression ‘Freud seeks Adler, Adler conceals Freud, Jung, inflates, and falls victim to both’. These describe the pathologies that in him, expressed the aetiology of his psychopathy. Kindest Regards, Steve🙏

A hypothesis, raised in response to your enquiry around past life regression and the capacity for a psyche to transmigrate across lives using a non-genomic pathway. Steve, to paraphrase, you have mentioned that psychology that does not inform itself with biology, or from a biological base is incomplete. To what degree do you think that might be true of physics informing a biological psychology. While we can ascertain, on a material level, the location of certain conscious functions that appear as the products of physiology, the question of precisely what consciousness remains unanswered. If physical models exist to suggest that our physical expression in three dimensions is the product of a far more complex reality that is operating across multiple dimensions we cannot perceive then it seems plausible that a migration of consciousness beyond death could be facilitated, at some level, on some frequency, that is beyond our capacity to perceive in this physical dimension. That possibly, what we perceive as DNA is only the three-dimensional manifestation of multi- dimensional process. It seems fair to assume that as biology has a foundation in physic that it might be there that we look as a next step? I'm not sure of the practical applications of this at this point in our evolution however. Also, it is a level of abstraction into a realm that would be impossible to measure objectively so it really is little more than a thought experiment. That said it might offer something of a suggestion towards a model that could explain some people's experiences of migrating 'between' lives, or even phenomena such as accessing the Akashic records (Although I plead ignorance in these areas). Really appreciating your collective perspectives. Also, where might I find information on where you teach/practice? if there is a way to message please let me know.

What to,advise for a person whose unconscious attacks his body with severe pain to stop him moving towards his goals for a girlfriend/career Life purpose? He hired 3 coaches to help with his goals and each time he gets really ill, eg shoulder out of socket, morphine damaged his organs.... 2nd coach, something "went" in hand...3rd coach (starting tomro), flu 3 days, aches and pains for first time with flu, headaches, ankle is now swollen due to lack of walking, difficult to walk, low apptitie, no energy to do anything...is this shadow his enemy, by attacking his body? The 1st 2 coaches weren't any good, so illness was unnecessary. The goal of the shadow is to prevent him from seeing coaches to help towards his goals...

Should you relate from the genomic self to your ego, I swear a lot of comedians became aware of their ego being soo vulnerable in the way it goes about things and then they find a way of expressing it through humor...awareness from the genome of the ego expressed, becomes humor?
@JungToLiveBy2 жыл бұрын
Hi again, okay. The Trickster, is a relational homeostatic function, that serves to mediate between Ego and Genome/Genomic Self. As you say, comedians are in special relationship to it. So long as they don’t lose their ‘personal’ Ego, it usually serves them well. Kindest Regards, Steve🙏

Hey James! Thank you! It depends on the depth you think you'd benefit from. Steve and Pauline are offering a consultation over on the Patreon; to be clear, they arent Jungian analysts, but instead more 'updated' depth psychologists and deliberately so, as classic Jungian analysts take many years to drill into individual complexes. So I am confused about the part where Steve says... If you try and force yourself to be too good then you will inevitably be balanced out by something bad urges... And vice versa... Wouldn't this be contrary to the message of Christ.. Not trying to nit pick but that part really confused me... Is there examples of humans so evil that they balanced out by good urges?
@jungtolivebyafterdark4 жыл бұрын
Hi Outsider, I'm not attempting place this in the context of Christ or his message. And of course I understand that you're not nit picking. Following Jung, you will get the phenomena of evil people (Hitler) being 'nice' to children and animals, but given that Jung 'diagnosed' Hitler as a psychopath, then, in common with the extreme end of psychopathy, the compensation will be minimal as there's a fundamental difference in capacity that prevents normal compensation dynamics. That said, manifestations of bad occur in good people and the opposite in bad. The example of some (sadly) religious people being industrial level pedophiles, shows how being one-sidedly good, can manifest in a degrading evil.

@@jungtolivebyafterdark If I am understanding you correctly, even if one does the hard work of understanding personal dreams, using active imagination, drawing mandalas..etc in an attempt to integrate unconscious material, there will be more shadow contents filling up again. So one might ask, what is the end goal of achieving wholeness?
@jungtolivebyafterdark4 жыл бұрын
Hi @@wenmyster thanks for your question. The relation to the process changes, so although the underlying structures and dynamics remain the same, the position of the ego is different. Integration and understanding of the dynamic reduces shadow-pressure, as such integration aids homeostasis within the personality as a whole. Also, the cumulative benefit of integration far outweighs the ego's unawareness of the compensatory dynamics. The goal however, is elusive, and technically only ends with the end of life. Where 'individuation' is natural, rather than consciously sought, it settles at the ceiling of the individual, which says nothing about the actual level of consciousness attained. Consciously directed individuation is a process that will end, at death, or, as in natural individuation, the ceiling of potential is achieved. In this sense individuation as a conscious goal is a grail of impossible attainment. It ends with life or with your natural limitations. Some can see further than they can attain, and that has to be accepted, rather than regretted. Kindest Regards, Steve.
@wenmyster4 жыл бұрын
@@jungtolivebyafterdark So if one consciously individuates vs letting nature take its course automatically, will the former's ceiling be higher than the latter in other words, will the one who consciously individuate be more whole?
@jungtolivebyafterdark4 жыл бұрын
Great question @@wenmyster thank you. As potential is personal, then as an outcome, it would only matter that someone achieved it. You raise a very important question, as in my understanding, the only reason to consciously individuate over a natural process, is if you are compelled to, from within. This compulsion is proportionate to your innate potential, and, will inevitably mean that you suffer more than the average, for it. Kindest Regards, Steve.
