Upon rewatching, I'm quite astonished how the Ryzen 5625U beats the 1240P at gaming. The 5625U is using older Vega graphics, which is supposed to be less than Intel's previous Tiger Lake 11th-gen CPUs (and basically what the 1240P has too). Yet AMD is winning. If you replaced that AMD chip with a 6600U the lead would be far more in team Red's favor.

Iris Xe can win in some tests, but the maturity of the Radeon drivers seems to pay dividends in terms of more consistently strong performance.

Thank you for this great comparison! everything was included so no need to look further for me. highly recommended. best regards

Immaculate presentation. The only chart that's missing is the external power consumption measurement during a CPU throttle phase, which is easy to accomplish by launching a demanding, multi-threading optimised and core-sensitive game like Ashes of Singularity at low resolution, high quality VFX and texture.

Thanks, this is some good info. It's really hard to know what an apples-to-apples comparisons are with these new AMD/Intel SoCs. It seems the only thing we can go off of is TDP usage, in which I'm impressed by AMD's performance at 15W compared to Intel's. I can't wait to see what the Ryzen 6600U (6core) and 6800U (8core) bring to the table.

I agree. I monitored SoC power consumption of all three chips in HWMonitor whilst running Cinebench R23. The Dells with the i5-1235U and Ryzen 5 5625U both performed very similarly - short term boost of 30-35W, dropping down to 20-25W and then settling at 15W after a minute or two. The Lenovo in High Performance with the i5-1240P runs at 60W short term, then drops to 35W, then 24-25W for the rest of the test. This means the Lenovo is running the i5-1240P a little lower than it could be - Intels specs give a maximum boost power of 65W, with the base power as 28W - presumably due to the thermal design of the laptop as it already gets quite warm to the touch in this mode. Will certainly be interesting to try 6600U and 6800U.

Imagine an U 15W CPU keep up with an Intel P 35W CPU. Thats crazy.
@HoveringAboveMyself2 жыл бұрын
I have a question, did you verify that the Ryzen 5 was really only using 15W? because your CBR23 MT scores seem surprisingly good for 15W, they are 8% better than Techspot's scores for a 5500U at 25W and 24% better than it set to 15W. I know than the 5625U is zen3 vs zen2 in the 5500U and there are some other improvements but their tests of the 5700U vs 5800U only saw a less than 7% uplift at 25W (and 2%-3% regression at 15W) in that benchmark.

@@BrueComputing Thanks! It seems Techspot's turbo settings are more restrictive than I imagined.

How were they setting them? Were they allowing any boost, or just locking to 15W?
@HoveringAboveMyself2 жыл бұрын
@@BrueComputing I used to think they locked them at a particular TDP but looking more into it, it seems they just choose among the available presets the ones that more closely match Intel/AMD default, lol I feel dumb.

Great video! Thank you so much for this. How are the thermals like on the 1240p? Did you find it particularly hot or noisy even on lighter tasks? I hope you can also create a review for the i5-1240p vs i7-1260p when it comes to thermals and performance, and even battery. Cheers!

does 13th gen intel have big difference in performance compared to 12th gen ? like i5-1335u to i5-1235u my current option is: i7-13/1255u, i5-13/1240p , i5-13/1235u, or r5-5800u. i know they're all worth buying... i want to use this for at least 3-4 years. im gonna use this boy to do my job (programming) mostly backend. any suggestion?

I have a Vostro 3525 laptop with ryzen 5 5625u, however can you comment on the build quality and thermal design please because I see the temp hitting 70-80 on normal load itself ? Benchmark are fine. Also once it crashed when doing webgl samples aquarium test at 20000 on battery. Don't know the reason but may be updates were happening at that time. Igpu is not much required in my case. Please share your opinion

you should know these chips are not running at their default tdp. check the power set up using aida64 burning test. otherwise, these perfomance tests are meaningless.

I do note this in the video - the i5-1235U and 5625U both run 15W during sustained workloads and up to 30-35W in short-term boost clocks, which is pretty representative. The i5-1240P varies is 25W sustained and and up to 60W boost, so a little lower than its nominally rated 28/65W. Ultimately can only work with the hardware that is available. Every laptop is tuned a little differently is this regard, so there is no one-size fits all option.

Hello, I got Acer Aspire 5 with 16gb ram and Intel i5-1235u. I'm starting coding and I need to install Visual Studio but the recommendents are 1,6ghz minimum processor but mine has 1,30ghz. In Intel site is written that I can boost it to 4,40ghz. Can anyone help me? Can I download Visual Studio?

Buy an i5-1240p HP laptop without a dedicated graphics , can handle Auto CAD & Revit ? 🤔 Anyone ? Answer would be great

Yes it will. However not if you do hardcore 3 D assembly. I did some solidworks and autocad with a 2015 macbook air during college so I think this one will handle it fine.

Ryzen 5 5625U is an awesome APU (whopping 19MB total cache). It matches i5-1240P in multi-core performance despite low TDP and outperforms in graphics performance. Here in India, OEMs are sabotaging AMD processor-laptops by deliberately (imo) cutting down on specs. e.g. Dell Inspiron 3525 with R5-5625U has no backlit keyboard!!!!!!!! Because of this, light users might prefer i3-1215U laptop available at similar/lower price point.
