I've personally never seen retail sentiment this negative on a stock before, which usually means it's a good buy LOL

It's mainly because nearly everyone is a customer of Intel. This isn't about retail sentiment; it's about customer sentiment.

If you are planning to buy INTC I would drip feed a little in each month over the next year and then see where you are. At the moment taking a big chunk is just too much of an unnecessary gamble. Any turnaround will take time, and the moving averages need time to catch up.

I think the partnership with Brookfield states that they put forth 15B for fabs to help finance the investments and in turn get 49% ownership of those fabs including 49% of the operating income from those fabs. So if Intel keeps going this route they will not be able to take home all the profits, but honestly there is no way they would even be able to build these fabs otherwise, so the deal seems fine to me.
@jazz191012 ай бұрын
Wow good info.
@yeetboi268Ай бұрын
Wow, 49% of the operating income? Not even net income? Yikes
@KayVerbruggenАй бұрын
@@yeetboi268 In this case the distinction between operating income and net income is not all that relevant. Usually the difference would be taxes and things like gains/losses on equity investments. Since this is talking about a single fab site most of these factors are not at play. And the money goes to Brookfield before taxes anyways because the income gets taxes on their income statement. So the operating income or net income doesn't make a difference here

Theres no way the US government lets Intel fail, especially considering the current global political vibe. Is INTC currently a great turnaround-play? Maybe. Does it have a great perspective in the next 5 years in comparison to other tech companies? No. Thats what makes it risky. Its safe, but no way near their peers.
@paulchevrette4812 ай бұрын
I think there is alot of uncertainty with intel as well as risk. But to your point alot can happen over the next few years that can change the landscape, government subsidies positive market outlooks in the future. I dont think intel is a long term hold but from cyclical perspective we are getting close to the bottom in my opinion.

Too big to fail because of US government's support isn't a good reason to invest in the company, just take a look at Boeing

There is a fundamental need, for people of North America, to have a robust and innovative INTC. We are moving into a world of closed markets in key strategic resources (e.g. CPU/GPU/MISC Silicon/key inputs). If we lose the ability to create leading edge chip product lines we lose as a people (the science, the people infrastructure, the knowledge and application of high end engineering). There is a case to be made for further government temporary ownership and partnership from both the USA and Canada (including Mexico). Now is the time as we are on the very cusp of a technological revolution; chip security is a real issue.

Thanks for the detailed analysis. In my personal opinion, primarily the success of a company depends on it`s leadership. You may have a great product or seemingly insurmountable moat; they don`t matter if you don`t have a strong leadership at the help. Classic case is Unity software - great product but subpar leadership. Somehow, I get a similar feeling for Intel.

The multibillion-dollar class actions will kill any value Intel currently holds. For those that have not kept up with tech news the Intel 13th and 14th gen has a fatal flaw in the ringbus, which is the part of the chips that controls connections between the CPU itself and everything plugged into the board, and it is UNFIXABLE. That means that every 13th and 14th gen chip is going to fail, that includes servers, desktops, even laptops. Instead of doing the smart move and issuing a recall Intel is releasing a patch that is nothing but a band aid to try to keep the chips alive just long enough to get past warranty and because of this not 1 but 2 law firms are gathering clients for a class action. Between this and the fact OEMs including Dell are abandoning Intel as the cost of replacing all those failing laptops and desktops is taking a big bite out of their bottom line and data centers going AMD/Nvidia big time means you are looking at 5-7 years before Intel gets back to where they were before 2022, if they survive that long.

I'm a bagholder- in my humble opinion Mr Gelsinger is not a good CEO for Intel right now. There is huge potential there but I don't think he is the man for the job. I'm sure he is a great guy and engineer, but Intel needs to find it's Lisa Su- unfortunately she isn't available right now. The company may be beyond saving- these old school tech blue chip types tend to be come very bureaucratic and weighed down and stuck in their ways and it's very hard to break them out of that sometimes. I just see them clinging to the old ways and not changing their thinking fast enough.
