Intelligent Dance Music | Akai S1000 IDM

Intelligent Dance Music. So, I did 2 jungle albums in a row and I now need to do stuff, that sounds different. Can't be inspired to do another jungle album. I want to do stuff that is more experimental, no formulas, just having fun with my gear. I love working with my gear, pressing and pushing buttons, faders and turning knobs. And it sounds awesome. IDM the old way.

That sounds so ominous and perversive. Good job. It gave me the underground S&M club vibes. BTW, How do you mix your tracks when working with the akai ? Do you do everything in the console and then just record a stereo mix to the computer or you record the tracks in the pc and do the mix there ?

Hey, thanks. Yes, I mix everything on the console and then record the final 2 track stereo. I found digital summing works very differently than analog summing, and I happen to prefer the all analog route, as every bit of gear adds subtle colors and characters and the final mix just sounds very organic and very round. Computer mixes always lack that organic feel to me, and every bit of sound sounds separate from the mix. This can, of course, be a total psychological thing and just my own imagination, but at the end this is how I prefer to work. But for my ambient stuff, I am mostly inside the computer as this allows to be in a much better control of sound, so it all depends on what end result I want and what music I am working on.

Actually I don't use an audio interface to send my stuff to the mixer, it's all done with Akai, but I have my eye on ESI GIGAPORT, a small audio interface with 8 outputs, I had the one 10 years ago, and I see they're back on sale as a new updated product, and costs very little, so basically you could use that interface to send up to 8 sounds from your DAW straight to the mixing desk and do the analog summing using outboard. In fact, I am planning on getting one, and maybe making a few videos about the workflow @@saren6538
