I think what also speeks for this style of wing chun is the fact, that you will find a Lot of people who were doing William cheung style or leung Ting and changed to wsl style, but you wont find one person who First did wong shun leung wing chun and then changed to another style.
@VestigialHead6 жыл бұрын
+Wladimir Illjitsch All styles of Wing Chun can be very strong as long as you are regularly testing your skills with full contact sparring. I see a lot of schools making the mistake that Chi Sau is enough. They then fail miserably in a real fight as they are not experienced at different ranges and are not hardened to being hit. If you never get hit hard in your training how can you possibly think you will be fine when hit for real? The key is finding the balance between hard training and not getting injured. This is difficult. I am not saying soft internal training does not have its place. But it is useless without its hard counterpoint. That is one of the main meanings of Yin and Yang. So find a school that tests it's WC regularly - not just in gradings. If you cannot find that then go find a different style that does test. It is similar to someone making up a hypothesis that the world is flat but not testing the hypothesis with sound scientific methods. Delusion.

I wonder if Bayer's actual SKILL in Chi-Sao is very good, very high, or...does he moreso just have such phenomenal handspeed that he can come out on top in each session....Hmmm?

WSL wc places a great emphasis on pressure. Phillip has it in buckets. You’re just seeing one aspect of skill: speed. His forward pressure is incredible.

just like most guys with fast hands in this system, it's due to a lack of proper/efficient footwork. he stays at the limits of his range (never actually bringing his horse into the opponent for max power/penetration). by staying at the intermediate chi sau range, and just utilizing shifts and small steps (never huen ma/hau ma), he fools those that don't know any better (the majority of WC practitioners/masters, etc.) into thinking he's doing really good WC. it's easy to have fast hands if you barely step into/through (or pull them on an angle into your back angling hau ma), thus keeping the mid-skill level distance (and not changing range, challenging oneself to learn how to deal with said range changes) so you can keep throwing fast hand techniques out there (that are more reaching than effective hits). Emin is the same. sad that so many people think these guys are so great- just goes to show that the majority of WC guys out there, have no clue as to what great WC really is. no wonder the martial arts world don't take us seriously and the majority of WC guys can't actually fight (other than other mediocre WC guys). without proper use of huen and hau ma, your WC will never be truly effective nor powerful enough to take on a non-WC fighter. it seems most can only utilize proper footwork, if it's choreographed, lacking true intent, etc.

This looks real neat when someone just holds their hands out there to let someone show off. It's like dumbed down version of patty cake.

It looks like that yes, but if you cross hands with him you will understand that his constant pressure and the speed exceeds your stress level so you are only able to punch or serve with the next one. You would get that result with any of his long year students too.

Aggressive trickery. Chi sao is useless against high speed attacks with intent. You don't know that, so he cons you. Stand against him with real speed and intent and see what happens. It's just physics of the brain. It's not completely useless, but it's bad methodology for dealing with an experienced or trained attacker. It could help you only against a stationary untrained person, that you don't want to hit but just control, that's about it. Sorry.

@@outofthebox7 Chi Sao is like rope jumping or sit ups or whatever you use to give your sytem related skills and body the basics. Do you invite an attacker to a round rope jumping? Better not.. but you had better trained that before you fight. But Chi Soa is hard to understand when the cup is not empty enough. Not doing Chi Soa makes your figthing efficience in Ving Tsun as not existing. Understood?
