This module is like: "Oh, I think I will pass the signal thru delay (13:00)" - "22:00 - still tweaking delay-"

Piles makes the individual taps overlap with each other. so when you have all 16 taps activated, and 16 piles of 1 set, then you get 16 different taps that will occur sequentially according to your grid time. if you change that to 16 taps, and 4 piles of 4, it then groups the taps, so the first 4 will overlap and play at the first delay hit, then the second group of 4 on the second delay hit and so on. thats how he starts getting chords from a single note on the input signal. the overlap or pile of taps allow multiple taps to hit at the same time (so with different pitch settings for the taps, you get a 4 note chord on 4 piles of 4). 2 piles of 8 can get you an 8 note chord. 8 piles of 2 gets you 2 note "chords".
