I fell for the hype on the original and it was one of the first niche frags I ever bought. I wore it a few times that winter, but it has just sat on my shelf for the last several years. I ended up getting a sample of this one and hoped it would be a great improvement --- not so much. It's a Mancera, so I should've known better. Your assumption is correct. As shrill as this one is, it's not as shrieky as the original. This one's a tad darker and has a more leathery feel. That's about it.

As for your current review: could you add a small comment after a 1h or 2h drydown? I would be very curious whether your opinion on the drier "version" is any better :)
@robertarmstrong6015Күн бұрын
Red tobacco original...particularly the dry down works really well in open air casual settings in cool weather. As far as I am concerned it's specially for that purpose...and does it very well. Outside of that though it may be problematic especially if smelled close up. Its meant to be caught whiffs of in the air from a distance.

Im wearing the original red tobacco right now and its AMAZING! The magic really happens in the drydown and the opening really is super synthetic (I still kinda love it) and smelling it on a strip doesnt do it any good. Put it on skin in the winter and its amazing. The sillage is this sweet dark cloud and pretty long lasting too. Cant say anything about the intense, heard its even more refined so yes the original might be even more screechy
@MoahGentleКүн бұрын
Interesting, whenever I sampled it to me the opening minutes/hour was the most synthetic smelling and harsh, in the mid it mellowed down a lot. That’s when I enjoy it. But since I already own Carlisle to me it’s a redundant purchase.

Intense red tobacco is actually weaker and smoother than the original. Sweetness is toned down in the opening with intense red tobacco. The only thing they did not needed to do was name it intense red tobacco.

For me, Red Tobacco the original is one of my favourite scents out of my relatively small collection BUT i agree with your description. Sometimes even i get bothered by the plasticky opening that is also present throughout the lifetime of the fragrance, admitedly to a smaller degree. I really like the drydown of it tho and in the air it smells amazing. I used to get upset about people calling Montale / Mancera synthetic and lower quality niche but its a thing of perspective. Once you get your nose on some Serge Lutens, Ormonde Jayne or even Guerlain then you start to see the validity of the critique.

Tried the original red tobacco and felt like I had been chemically attacked, def got no interest in anything more "intense". Only mancera I like so far are Saharian Wind and Aoud Vanille. Aoud Vanille does have a bit of that chemical oud smell at the start but it does tone down fast and isn't anywhere near as bad.

@@robes08 New York intense is my all time favourite, and a classic in perfumery imo, Nemean lion is a flagship from argos - ambery, musky, cistus, moss, pine, sage/pepper/juniper, and then a slightly pelt-like dry-down. Some think it's too ambery or musky, some don't like it being animalic, some absolutely love it. FBB did hype it up, but also has some legitimate positive reviews as well as negatives. Aoud is my most recent pickup - sticky sweet dried fruit, light oud, nutmeg, saffron, incensy, and it's just... I find it addicting. And Hardkor might be a bit of a curveball, because it really splits the waters with fragranceheads - some love it because it has some fruity, tropical notes like mango coupled with leather, and some find the leather to be synthetic and too everpresent - I like it because it feels kind of like how I'd picture the air in cuba smells.

I don’t know if you’re being too harsh on this fragrance. I don’t know it, I haven’t smelled it, but I do own and like the original. I think you’re so critical of it because the whole gang of influencers overhyped this scent. Moreover, it seems like they were all instructed to call it a “beast mode projector,” when it’s really not. Give it fifteen minutes. The original, after a quarter of an hour, becomes pleasantly warm and starts to resemble the scent of cherry shisha tobacco-something with a jam-like consistency. I think this gang of salespeople disguised as reviewers has tainted your opinion. Best regards, and thank you for your work and for not being like that crowd, misleading people while pretending to be an advisor (but in reality being a salesperson earning a commission). Best!

I really don't like Red Tobacco. It solidified the idea in my head that Mancera is Niche for cheapie lovers - super synthetic. I really liked Cedrat Boise, but Red Tobacco made me forever turn away from Montale and Mancera. Absolutely correct is has a syrup vibe to me. If you like Argos fragrances and/or Creed Centaurus, you will probably like this. I don't like any of them. Honestly, it is almost exactly like those. Kinda makes you wonder why Creed and Argos charge so much when Mancera does the exact same thing for 100 USD

Yes, generally the problem with Mancera perfumes is the synthetic touch. They use a lot of synthetic materials, which allude to perfumes like Lattafa or Armaf, and somehow lose that niche shine. Again, the perfumes are very good, but there is still a small pebble in the shoe that bothers me.
