Platforming in Smash isn't perfect, but it could've been improved upon if Smash4 didn't just ditch Adventure Mode entirely. And honestly, I'd prefer some good yet flawed platforming in my Adventure Mode over......... just making it be Spirit Board with a map. Seriously, what was the point? Why remove the one gameplay element that made Adventure stand out in the first place and act as if beating another playable character on a stage isn't what already makes up 90% of Smash's gameplay? This is made all the worse when you consider that Ultimate doesn't even have a Target mini-game, and Home Run Contest only got added in post-release. When the original N64 game has more variety than Ultimate, that's a problem.

Yeeeaaah, sorry. World of Light is great, but Subspace Emissary is my favorite. It DOES have some weirdly difficult sections, but I think platforming can work really well in a platform fighter, especially since the game's controls feel tighter than ever. Mix the story and some platforming from Subspace with some of the battle conditions from World of Light and let us play it with our friends, and I think you have the making of the best solo/adventure mode in Smash yet!

There are also no cutscenes where any fighters interact with each other other than where they all just stare at the sky 🤣🤣🤣. Subspace is different because you're fighting original characters in completely new stages and there's a whole actual story where the characters interact with each other and work together to defeat the villain. Explain how that's anything like Wol.

Exactly. What especially makes it bad is that the thing is packed with LITERALLY more than 600 different battles. And when you look at Spirit battles like Goomba, you get the impression that they WANTED to try and replicate the sensation of fighting mook enemies under this system. But here's the thing: in a platformer like Subspace, you can just beat up on mook enemies one after another with no interruption. In World of Light? You gotta go through several menus before you finally get into the actual battle, then kill the opponent in a few seconds...... all to defeat a single Novice Spirit. Then rinse and repeat for the other five Novices just to progress along a single pathway. I'm sorry, but no, that's a horrible way of doing it. World of Light just comes off feeling like a ton of bloat that could've been trimmed down significantly. And the sad thing is, they encourage you to do it all over again in New Game+ because there's literally nothing to do in a completed save file except fight the final bosses again. But aside from getting the Marx and Dracula Spirits again (upgradeable boss Spirits being a whole can of worms themselves for completionists), why would you even wanna bother?
