2:07 Gouache Set. I've had these since the 90s. Love them! Only recently I figured out that adding some zinc white adds the typical opacity expected of Gouache. 🤦🏻These can work as semi transparent watercolours if you don't add white. Fun fact. The sticker is to be added to the tin cover, since all Caran d'Ache covers are plain red. BTW Jackson's sells the open stock pans. I refill mine from there. 15:02 The Flower and map fabric would make beautiful sketchbook covers, if you turn them into book cloth. The easy way is to use Heatnbond and voila, your book cloth is ready! It would be a fun project for Italy too. Make book cloth for the covers and make the sketchbook. Very intentional haul. Thanks Lindsay!

Hey, great idea for the packaging paper recycling! I’ve been using my plastic Amazon shipping envelopes while painting, under on-the-go watercolors: they’re waterproof, super light and portable, and you can even use them as a make-shift palette. Then recycle as possible. I love my Caran d’Ache gouache colors, and they are different than other gouaches. Fantastically pigmented, easy carry pans, super smooth: they add punch to regular watercolors that have gotten overworked, or work great alone. They should be their own category of art medium. Anyway, thank you and RESPECT to Lindsay!! ❤

Hi Lindsay, CultPens has the gouache refills. I think they ship to the US. The Caran d’Ache gouache always gets judged too harshly IMO. It’s not classed as an artist grade supply by Caran D’Ache - it’s in their crafting/hobbyist supplies. But peeps tend to judge it against artist grade products which I feel is unfair. It is also kind of in between gouache and watercolour. It reminds me of Holbein’s opaque cakes/Shin-gansai

Hullo Lindsay, we have so many throw pillows and my wife changes them for every season and holiday! She uses the flap end seal to make changing them easier and to keep harmony with the “collection” she has a go to color of fabric she uses for the backside of the pillows. You can also stretch your new fabrics and cover more pillows with the same color/pattern by using a solid backing fabric. I am sure you are aware of this, but sometimes we all need a little refresher because we do so many different kinds of things, crafts to fine arts it is hard to remember everything that we have learned or used in the past! I am looking forward to seeing your gouache videos as I have still not decided on a brand, I have ordered a couple and I am going into testing mode after the next mixing set arrives! Please take care, be safe and keep those videos coming!

Now you've got me thinking about buying the Caran d'Ache gouache set to do a comparison with the Pelikan Opaque set I have. I'm not certain, but I figure this CD dry pan gouache set is fairly similar in quality to the "been around for ages" Pelikan Opaque watercolor set, long available at most art supply stores. The Pelikan Opaque and its sister transparent set, (still sold in US) were primarily marketed to kids and I figure may still be widely used in primary schools in Germany, where the company is or was based. Both transparent &opaque sets are very high quality, but Pelikan never bothered developing them for the professional artist supply market. I also have the 24 color Pelikan transparent set that is also excellent quality, close to artist grade. Both sets have "replaceable" pans. BUT I can't find any retail source for replacement pans for the transparent set anywhere. And now I'm not even seeing the replacement pans for the opaque set except from Pelikan in Germany.. Lack of individual color replacements just dooms the value of sets, as far as I'm concerned. Too bad as the Pelikan watercolor sets are excellent "almost pro" quality. Thanks for sharing your mini-haul👍

Wow, I didn’t know that Blick (or any place in the US) has colored Conte crayons open stock! I’ve bought a few sets in the last few years and that wasn’t the case. I am curious if you have swatched them and if so, what you think. I was really disappointed to find that the only Conte crayons now which have the familiar “waxy” texture from decades ago (or I think of them as slightly greasy, or in some cases, sort of a graphite-like texture) are some of the black ones still made in France. All of the colored Conte crayons, the white ones even in the varied hardnesses, and the sanguine crayons, are made in China and have a very gritty texture. Not a hint of a waxy or oily binder, no smoothness, not even like a hard but finely milled powdery pastel. Just grit, like fine sand under your finger as you try to blend, which also means more problems with adhesion to paper. I am wondering if the existence of open stock now might mean there has been some sort of change for the better in manufacturing. Probably not.
@thefrugalcrafter6 күн бұрын
I'll have to swatch them side by side. They did feel a bit like a nupastel so maybe they are different. They seem a touch larger than my old ones too. I'll keep everyone posted!
@Anonymoi6 күн бұрын
@@thefrugalcrafter Thanks! I have still never tried Nupastel, but I have heard that they are hard yet made of finely milled material, so that once applied to paper they feel soft under fingertips. The new Conte crayons I have (several sets, excluding black 2B made in France) feel like fine sand to the touch, and I have seen some Blick reviews stating the same. I am really hoping they have fixed this issue and that, even if they are more like a very dry hard pastel than a traditional Conte crayon, they are not gritty.
