Interactive Cloth Simulation

I wanted to see if it was possible to build a physics engine that could model reasonably high-resolution soft bodies interactively and in real-time. By using a standard gaming GPU, I reached the point where testing the physics engine was kind of fun - so I thought I'd share.

The absolute hardest part about cloth and hair simulation in my opinion is making sure it doesn't clip and go through the model, but that it actually lays and stays on top of the model.

It looks like simulated friction or grip might be needed in addition to the cloth physics, simulating the texture's friction as well as skin so the cloth doesn't fly everywhere and adheres where it should adhere in places where skin to cloth surface area or where pinching would allow.

Okay but seriously this is a DREAM COME TRUE for artists in experienced with drawing clothing. It’s really hard for most people to predict the way fabric will flow or sit in certain positions! If you actually end up developing this into a program available to the public PLEASE let me know! It would help so many people if they could visually see how different clothing items and fabric would look in all sorts of positions on many different body types!

It looks great from a technical standpoint, but not "realistic" on the decay. In every pose, for example, there is too much activity at the hem of the dress once the material has reasonably settled. And it almost seems to bounce between poses. That honestly seems like a quick fix though. Not every part of a piece of cloth moves at the same rate when you factor in friction. So, in some poses, the dress would more realistically be cinched at the thigh instead of sliding flat. And cloth itself would effectively appear motionless sooner from greater distances. I'm not sure how those would factor in to the existing algorithms used, but to be honest, it should reduce requirements since you're not calculating any motion beyond a certain threshold vs. this calculating continuous motion even when stationary? This is ridiculously impressive though. And the quality is hard to believe. That's some extreme talent in motion and physics design.
