Hi guys.
In this video you would learn how to clean the rear brake of your motorcycle and have effective and noise free brakes.
Do not apply the brake paddle when the brake pads are out
This would also help people looking to replace their rear brake pads on their own.
1 Tool - A small screw driver.
2 Medium Grit sandpaper.
3 Soap solution.
4 Water.
5 A Dry cloth.
some Important points:-
In most cases soap solution is best to clean the brake rotor for more intense cleaning you can use acetone or cleaning alcohol.
To perform intense cleaning on the caliper use dedicated brake cleaner and apply some caliper grease after it on the caliper piston.
Do not use any oil based thing like diesel or wd40 on the brake rotor as it would make the pads slip. you can also use brake cleaner on rotor.
Make sure to Put the cotter pins back
For the brake pads sandpaper or a thin wired metal brush is best.
Would make the video on front brake on a different day.
Shot on - Nikon coolpix p900

@@ijs_diy I tried it today on my interceptor. Few things i observed. Mine is 2022 model.pin holding the break pads is bit different compared to yours. Only one locking pin is now given and holding rod needs bit extra push while Inserting back. Took your video as reference. It is fairly simple process to do. Which I was not doing until I watched your video.

Hi Inderjeet, thanks for the video. Very helpful. Can you tell us what engine oil do you recommend for interceptor? Have you tried out any engine oils other than Liquid Gun ?
@ijs_diy
@ijs_diy 3 жыл бұрын
Thanks 😊 I am still using RE 10w50 Full synthetic oil. Other oils you can go for are castrol power 1 racing 10w50 fs, motul 7100v 10w50 fs, liqui moli 10w50 fs, amisol 10w50 fs all these are good oils . Motul and Castrol are on economical side rest are bit expensive.

Please share some information for Interceptor 650 on- 1. Engine breaking n slipper clutch. 2. Handle bar / risers for taller riders.
@ijs_diy
@ijs_diy 2 жыл бұрын
Engine breaking just be gradual with throttle input till 1000 kms can use full range of rpm but do not rush with acceleration. 5.5k rpm is safe till 1000kms then afterwards u can go higher. Slipper clutch works well no issues with it. Handle bar risers i haven't used personally but Many options available or u can use AOM handle bar.

Hi. Thanks for the video. In my bike when I rotate rear wheel while on the center stand I hear a metallic scratching sound more like a disc rubbing brake pad. Is that normal? I think I heard a similar sound when you rotated your rear wheel.
@ijs_diy
@ijs_diy 4 жыл бұрын
Yes the sound is normal and one of the pad always runs in little contact with the rotor or disc due to slight play. And begin a sintered pad they are noiser than organic pads. Try to look closely and see how close the pads are to the rotor.

@ijs_diy
@ijs_diy 2 жыл бұрын
No wd40 or anything oil based on rotors. Use moist cloth for surface rust or use acetone. Usually surface rust goes off on its own with usage. Avoid using hard water for cleaning. For too much rust u can claim it under warranty.

Hi Inderjeet, thanks for the video, can you please confirm if the rear disc pads are always rubbing the disc, like holding the disc and making this disc really really hot after like 3-4 kms ride ? Mine are as hot as the silencer & the RE guys say its normal.. I fear the break failures on long rides as the brake oil will not be effective after a certain temperature.
@ijs_diy
@ijs_diy 2 жыл бұрын
Yes one side is always in contact and there is very little clearance in pads amd disc. This is bow it should be. Getting hot is Normal in few kms of riding avoid touching the rotor/disc.

Any water product will start to rust. I reckon Orion is by far the best stuff to use to clean. Including oil cooler and other stuff. After using Orion air blower or let it dry for few minutes
@ijs_diy
@ijs_diy 4 жыл бұрын
Using soap water since my first bike with disc brake(almost 17 years now) and regularly clean the rotors with water spray never faced any rust. For deep cleaning like if there is more carbon or brake dust i use acetone or cleaning alcohol. Orion might be a good option or use dedicated brake cleaner like stp.

Mine 2023 model interceptor has just one cotterpin at the inner side. On removing the pin, I tried to push rod out but it didn't move a bit. Tried a lil hammering with screwdriver, but still the rod didn't come out. Any suggestions?
@ijs_diy
@ijs_diy 6 ай бұрын
Check the direction of the pin head and see if it is on other side, otherwise use bit more force they must have used some thread lock on it or just jammed with dust. If u have brake cleaner spry then use that on it.

Thank you very very much Inderjeet. Your words gave me confidence to proceed. I found that the Shaft is a lot more stubborn than expected and I had to use a hammer (I used plier earlier and it didn't work). With just two decent blows with a small hammer, the Shaft came out nicely and i could take the pads out!

My rear brake has become spongy...how do I bleed it..can u please make a video on the same..
@ijs_diy
@ijs_diy 4 жыл бұрын
Pump the brakes paddle few time till it feels tight then keep it press and open the bleeder valve by quarter of a turn then close it and release the paddle(put a small pipe on valve to avoid oil spillage on caliper or disc) , this would help. For reference watch my jammed brakes video u will get the idea. Otherwise a full bleed would need you to open the reservoir cap and lift the inner bladder then place the bladder and cap back loosely and then pump and open the bleeder valve by a quarter of a turn and do a brake oil topup with dot4 brake oil. I would try to make a video on this soon but for now u can try the first step i have mentioned.

This is not cleaning you're wearing out by sanding it's better use Scotch brite , cleaning means removing the dust and not polishing it, it should be rough and not smooth having a higher coefficient of friction provides better breaking. I insist do not use a sanding or emery paper how ever low grit it is.
@ijs_diy
@ijs_diy 4 жыл бұрын
Been doing this since late 90s, and this is how it is done, metal brush or mild grit sandpaper. Scrotch bite doesn't remove the carbon stuff, It is helpful on disc/rotor. And thanks for suggestions , i do cleaning on regular basis so normal dusting works i do not have to sand it down every time. And you do not have to go all guns blazing on the sandpaper.
