On a daily driver, I can’t stress enough how important it is to get the system to self bleed the air out via an expansion(or aeration)tank. Also pay attention to system design and fill methods you use, because the tanks and radiators will always have air trapped in them w/o bleeders at the tops. A vacuum cooling system filler is very helpful for this. They make dual water temp gauges that double as a controller to enable the system to cycle automatically based on pre-set temperatures or differential between the two sensors. You can use dual IAT sensors to accomplish the same thing for the system. But monitoring the water is much more precise. What it comes down to the differences between A2w vs A2A, neither is better than the other. A2w has its benefits and so does A2A. The water will be more effective at cooling the charge, IF the water is colder than about 15* to 20* over ambient(depending on you boost levels). Ice boxes can help cool things down at the track, where an A2A would be ineffective.

Decided to buy the biggest heat exchanger I could for my system and removed the expansion tank I had because it was really heating up the water being in the engine bay. I didn’t have a way to install it anywhere else so it I have an inter chiller I plan to eventually install.

I think they would if you have a radiator that the coolant could go from the intercooler to the radiator to the tank and back to the intercooler.

What causes the heat soaking? Even just at idle. water heat exchanger being right next to the radiator? Heat introduced from the turbo compressors even just idling? I have a compound turbo Subaru with AWIC with no reservoir and temps increase fairly quick and land in a quite high range. I don't yet know why. I'm wondering if switching to V-mount would solve the issue. Considering swapping to air/air intercooler.

Heat soaking in general is caused by several factors including everything contributing to the engine bay heat. The supercharger (SC) coolant in this type of application is circulated throughout the system, but there isn't any airflow across the low temp radiator (LTR) or also called the heat exchanger, to cool down the SC's coolant, therefore it gains temperature over time, which is often referred to as the heat soaking aspect. I also see this in my Camaro, even with a Magnuson supercharger and a very efficient LTR used in the system. I either want to add an expansion tank which will add about 2.5 gallons more coolant to the system, and/or add fans to the LTR so I can always have air moving across the LTR/heat exchanger providing a cooling effect even when in staging lanes or stopped in traffic. My IAT's and MAT's climb dangerously high, like upwards of 160-180 degrees on hot summer days when the ambient temps are 100+ degrees. I can't keep temps under control without the car moving, so heat soak is terrible and it pulls timing like crazy. Looking for a solution outside of running ice in an expansion tank, or running a chiller system off the A/C, which I also don't want to have to do.

@@tschilling7333 I’ve just finished making a custom radiator with a custom full titanium fan mount and shroud for my new vomit setup. I’m at the phase now of making a mounting system for it, new structural frame members to replace what I cut out to make room for it all, and I need to also make a new LTR. I’m thinking with fans and a shroud for sure. Then I am planning to come up with a place for a reservoir. Space is limited and that will be a challenge and saved for last. I think water sprayers for the ltr is the best option for the hot times. But there is no great solution.

@@vgnfab I think I'm convinced that I need to proceed with fab'ing up a fan mount and custom shroud to my LTR. Adding an expansion tank should help as well by increasing the overall volume of coolant available to the system. The fans will not likely reduce my IATs below what normal freeway driving would for example, but I'm most interested in having air movement across the LTR at low/idle speeds, as well as reducing overall engine bay temps by using ambient temp airflow. We shall see how things go...

So which is the better option for daily driving in extreme TX heat? The coolant expansion tank or the auxiliary intercooler tank?? Specifically for the Infiniti Q50RS 3.0t

I realize both would be the best way to go, but I’m not in the position to spend $700+ for both of them since I already dropped the cash for the AMS heat exchanger.

@@joedirtrd1I know this comment is old but if you bought a HE buying a tank to compliment that Is key !!! If you increase the volume of the HE of course you would want a bigger tank !! Good luck 🍀

Not sure why these expansion tanks are not built to resemble a miniature radiator to help shed heat
