It's time to build a custom w2a intercooler setup for the 2L-te Hilux Surf!
Now we've got a more power, the intake temps are REALLLLY becoming an issue - so lets fix them!
Last episode was custom snorkel time, this time we gotta finish all the pipework and plumb in the water!

I've got the same setup on my 2.8 4runner, but with a much larger heat exchanger. The difference was night and day, I went from backing off up Hills due to egt levels to now running more boost and being able to hold it flat up Hills not exceeding 550c. I'm currently converting from a ct20 to a gt2052v vgt turbo, should also be another night and day difference.

Just an idea for a little pocket money or even to help fund ya truck. You could perhaps start making the entire kit and selling it for the whole intake system now that you've done it once and know what mods need to be made.

The boosted and built g team was a huge help with my build. I wish you and benny could tune my 1kzte surf. I have a 3" exhaust, resistor mod, 10 blade fan, blocked egr, snorkel, water to air intercooler on the way, 3 core rad, turbo boost t. I think i speak for everyone when i say i cant wait a for a dyno with the intercooler. Theres a garage in nz that have a 1kz running just over 200hp. Mines next :-)

Bought a barrel air water cooler and i didnt even consider the space between the hot side pipe and the tap cover until I watched this!

Hey mate! I’ve been looking all over for a drivers side snorkel to fit on my 2lt-te and can’t find a single good one! I was wondering if you could fab up the exact same one you’ve done for yours and send it down to Victoira? Price doesn’t matter to me, just want to do exactly what you’ve done!

Thanks for the video's, very usefull! How did it work out in the end? Keen to hear about numbers :). Looking to go w2a on my ln106, purely for packaging as I have AC and pipe work for a front mount will be a nightmare.

Thanks mate. It works pretty well. Since this (can't remember whether I showed it in this video) I added a 10L reservoir in the back and another small cooler with a fan. The only thing it's lacking is a bigger w2a radiator up the front (need to build a new bull bar to be able to fit one) Also running a new turbo since this. Temps stay pretty good up to about 15psi, then from 15-30psi they slowly creep up on sustained high load/boost. But the w2a definitely slows them down. Compared to if I have the w2a pump switched off.

@@boostedbuiltgarage awesome, sounds pretty good. I've ordered a Holset he200wg, supposed to be very efficient. I was looking at the PWR barrel style liquid to air kits and running the radiator with fan on the headboard of my tray. Longer coolant lines will mean more coolant volume, but interesting/good to know you ended up needing to add an additional 10l tank.

Because there is no clean way of getting a 2.5" pipe to and from a FMIC unfortunately... Running 2 water lines was hard enough lol. The front end of this car is not intercooler friendly😞 not without major mods anyway

You may have flow issues with that pipe thats going over your valve cover, i found that any restrictions/pipes under 2.5" you have flow problems

@@truenough86 sqashing the pipe is restricting the amount of airflow that can travel through the pipe, therefor restricting the total air mass that moves to the turbo/engine, less air=less power gains

FYI, changing the shape of a pipe doesn't restrict flow... It's not like it's been squashed from 2" to 1.5", it's purely just gone from a circle to an oval. Ever seen oval exhaust tube on race cars? Same principle, same volume as the round tube, but different shape to give better ground clearance

Haha definitely not worth it unfortunately, am so time poor as it is and the price it would cost for me to do nobody would want to pay or afford. I'm already busy with side projects like my rear disc conversions and transfer case handbrakes
