I went to a Korean festival last year. I tried 떡볶이 and 만두 for the first time. I’ve been obsessed with Korean food ever since. Once at H-mart, I greeted the 할머니 at the checkout register. She was so happy to see a black girl speaking to her in Korean. I’m not fluent, but I enjoy learning different languages so I can connect with different people and cultures.

That’s exactly how people who react in Korea also! I have seen some videos of expats living in Korea about seeing signs that says ‘no foreigners’ on clubs and bars (which makes me mad) but tbh it’s not common and it’s only in those pretentious establishments like clubs and bars that do that. Normal restaurants and merchants would greet foreigners with open arms when You say 안녕하세요..!

I am so glad I discovered you site. When the pandemic started I found Kdrama and progressed to Kpop. I live in a senior community and while my friends were suffering from isolation, I was immersed in Korean culture. I feel I came through this period unscathed and I owe it all to the Korean culture. You web site has offered an even more informative look at Korea, thank you.

I’m sorry, I was referring to BTS and their music. I mixed up web sites. Danny has made understanding the Korean culture easier. I was in Busan with my late husband and he was astounded. He was there during the war, so he wasn’t expecting much. He was pleasantly surprised.

Even though I'm in my 60's I'm a young minded person. I started watching Kpop & Kdramas maybe 6 years ago, as well as Korean TV programs with English subtitles, and I love them. I've learnt a lot about Korean culture by watching all these types of things and listening to people on Korean talk shows and also following a Korean/Canadian couple who are married & live in Seoul and post about their every day life. I find the Korean culture very interesting, and I've had Korean homestay students when I rented out my bedrooms in Vancouver. I want to come to Seoul for a visit hopefully next year if the quarantine period is no longer required of course, so I'm interested in learning what would be helpful for me to travel there. I found your channel today and have watched a couple of your info videos and find them insightful & helpful, so thanks for making them.

Hi I'm from Greece and Korean interest came into my life 2 months ago when I first saw a Korean series. After 2 months through many series and movies, interviews, shows I found this very nice and I respect it a lot was that Koreans are kind people and respect their culture as in my country. Now from you I see that the family also plays big role, children in both countries live with their families or have closed relationships😊 I also really like the fact that they are very hardworking people that sense their left me , I found the food interesting too and also the language although it will be very difficult to learn it without help...... I enjoyed your video even though it came about by accident☺

I think food is the first love of every korean person. 😄 ❤️ The fact about the trends really amazes, that how quickly something trends and everybody follows it, either it's food, clothing, hairstyle or something else. The fact about living with parents before marriage is absolutely normal. You maybe surprised to know that here in India, even after marriage, living with your parents or In-laws is quite normal. A human is same everywhere in the world. They all cry and smile and love. It's just their culture and beliefs that makes them different from another. And then it's u who decides either to be a good person or a bad one. Again got to know some interesting and fun facts about your beautiful country. Will be waiting for the part-2 😁. Thank you so much for sharing. Have a good night and a lovely day tomorrow. Take care 💜 (I was talking about humans like I'm an alien. 😅 I'm not good at writing. So please don't mind if something is out of context or just doesn't make sense. Thank u.😊)

I don't know if someone say it before, but thank you for your thoughtfulness for people who don't hear you. I think the most common food in Austria is Schnitzel and Palatschinken and In my opinion the most of the young people want to leave their familiy in the middle twenties. oh... and i think how you looks isn't such a big topic like in corea, but thats my own feeling and i am sure other peoples think in another way.

The no stealing thing reminds me of Japan. People generally don't steal ..yet they sometimes steal umbrellas from convenience stores lmao.

it's my first time to be on your channel, and really thank you for your efforts. I plan to visit South Korea. but I'm more of a rural person than a city dweller, and a minimalist. I wish you would share the rural places I could visit that would be interesting, very affordable. I have other questions. Can a foreigner do volunteering in Korea? Do we need another type of visa to be able to volunteer? Are there specific places to volunteer in Korea? I think is enough for now 😅. Once more, thanks for your hard work.

Very interesting video! I am from Greece and it is also quite common for Greeks in their 20s or even 30s to still live with their parents, mostly due to financial difficulties. I live on my own since the age of 18, when I entered the university, ten years ago. I must say, that survival is very hard here, without any support of the family. Especially for me, as a disabled person, things are even harder. Thank you very much for sharing about your culture! ☺️

I actually lived alone since I was a teenager for school and yeah it can be quite tough but I did learn to be more independent:)

@@ThizisDanny Indepence is very important to me, so I totally get your point. I would like to ask, what is the Korean’s perception about disability. Are there any stereotypes about disabled people? Here, in Greece it’s really rare to find disabled people live independently and we face a lot of marginalization, so I was really curious about Korean culture in that aspect too. Thank you your time. 😊

Hi Danny. Great content as usual. I think I speak for most of us when you feel like family from all over world. Sometimes its just observations in life we’d just talk about over coffee 🙂. Thank you for addressing that it’s ok and appreciated for a foreigner to take part in some of the Korean manners and conversations. I was felling I would wonder if they were thinking I’d be mocking etc. Like example: when I ask you if your healthy and have you eaten…it’s in all sincerity and Ive learned it’s importance etc. 🥰👌. Yes Ramen can be such comfort food lol. Take care God Bless.

Thank you for all the context that really helps me understand a lot of what I'm watching in kdrama and Halleyu. And once I can finally travel to South Korea I can be more respectful but also less sensitive. I would say in America McDonald's is ramen equivalent. Everyone eats McDonald's, no matter how rich or how poor. But will often say things like well I guess we're just eating McDonald's for the week because it's considered an inexpensive food. However, we do have an extra layer where it can also be a bad connotation as well, and I don't think 라면 has that. It was very informative that I'm glad I'm a subscriber to your channel.
@ThizisDanny

라면 could also have a bad connotation actually ..! It can be said like “will you just live eating Ramyun for the rest of your life?” meaning you need to make money but rarely used
