It's an important topic and an important thing to add is people should stop objectifying and fetishizing Korean guys online. It's one thing to like the physical appearance of someone you've never met (I won't lie, I'm 100% drooling over Park Bo Gum and over a Korean content creator I'm following on Instagram) but some people really cross the line, making toxic comments on their posts, demanding attention during their live streams, asking TMI questions... Respecting people seems to be a foreign concept to these folks. 🙄

I wish i found this post before i got scammed lol At the very beginning the guy didn't ask me money, but he said he wanted to give me these and those. I declined it, but he insisted. He said he already sent the package. But in the end, he said there was a local fee had to be paid, then he asked me money for that. Stupid me i fell for it because he gave me a reason that he spent a lot of money to buy me those things, and there was some money inside the package. Anyway, guys and girls, if you meet someone thru online, and never meet them personally eyes to eyes, once they asked you money, then it's time for you to run away. XD Be safe!

Just to add to what Danny said about him "not being your boyfriend", there are many creepy people out there. Young women, especially, should be careful of sex trafficking and grooming behavior that predators initiate online. In general, it's a good idea to NEVER give out personal info or get invested in people you've never met in real life.

Thanks for the reminder, Dan. Such a good topic to share to raise awareness!👍✨ After living for decades, I've been going through various scams in many forms and motives, whether it's online or offline, from personal experience or from other people, victims or not. And guess what's the similarity between them all? The perpetrator often takes advantage of people's emotions when they do their crimes. Those perpetrators target the target's fragility of emotions, like loneliness, compassion, or even love to trick their victim and get what they want. Most of their motives are money, but sex, fame, and status are no exception. My advice is, to arm yourself with knowledge and experience, that is not limited to your own. Learn how to know the "signs" when people want something from you or want to harm you, like body language, choice of words, and how to avoid threats. And also remember to not be the slave of your own desires. Because those criminals usually know your desire and try to lure you with that. Don't let yourself be their easy target!

The only time I had an interaction with a so-called celebrity via social media DMs, the guy wasn't really big everywhere yet and I'm the one who looked for the account. I sent a message congratulating him on the great work, saying it really mattered even to older people like me (the guy is much younger than I am) and I added I wasn't expecting an answer or anything, I just wanted him to know his work was appreciated. Unsurprisingly, the message remained unanswered for months... And then one day I got a notification and there was a simple, short reply. A simple thank you and a compliment. That was it. It was nice to get an answer when I didn't expect any but it wasn't the start of anything...

As far as I know the official accounts of the actors are handled by their managers or they are still not allowed to communicate with their fans through messages. Sometimes they may not even be from the country they claim to be! Anyway Danny thank you for your advices🥰 but I am afraid that these scammers will always find new ways to approach and deceive people! So we all have to be very careful!

Danny, Thank you for addressing this topic. In addressing getting emails from celebrities, please note that celebrities have paid staff that monitor all their social media accounts, so chances are you would NEVER be getting an email from the celebrity personally. A rule of thumb should be, if you wouldn't let someone you didn't know in your house, don't allow them to be be added as a friend on your page and access your personal information. Unfortunately, the computer allows anonymity, so look for the red flags like Danny outlined and don't become a victim. Hopefully, people are open to receiving this information to allow them to safely use social media. Danny, Have you eaten?😉

And sadly elderly also are huge targets as most are not tech savvy etc. I’m enjoying Taxi Driver 2, and the first two cases are this very thing. Folks blindly scammed. Heart breaking. the internet can really be a scary place, especially for those who are sadly not aware of all the creeps around there. one might think by now everyone should be aware of the things that are going on in social media etc, but i think especially those who are longing for getting attention it’s hard to distinguish those fake accounts - as obvious as it might be for others. it’s just really disgusting how some people take advantage of those who feel lonely or just want to connect with others :/

Thank you for talking about this topic! It's different for many esp. teens to hear this from people like you than from their siblings or worse: parents 😅 But it's the same offline. Yes, you can see their faces but there are also people in the streents, claiming they want to collect mony for a charity so they need your credit card information etc. What's also a strange thing - in Germany atm - there are people calling elder people claiming to be their grandchild who needs money and they should bring it at one special place or worse claiming to be police officers and the money isn't safe anymore at home or in the bank so they should collect it and bring it to a special place to give it to 'officers' who will put the money in a safe. So be reminded everyone! The moment someone asks for a great amount of money from you: RUN!

I think we all naturally want to feel special and that's why people want to believe it's their fave celebrity. If people step back and think about it logically, celebrities will never ask strangers for money when they can ask friends, family, their company, etc. Edit: The same goes for anyone claiming [x] acct is a private account, whether it's a stranger or a friend. If you don't know the person, there is no reason for them to ask you for anything. If you do know the person, don't assume it's them and just go "okay"... call them up and confirm it's their acct before providing any personal info, etc.

I had so many scammer followers, the imposters are easy to spot but there are also many fakers claiming to be some random person who start to DM you. You really have to watch carefully how the conversation develops and then you start to see patterns. Once I can assess it’s possibly a faker I block the faker follower immediately. If I’m not sure I restrict him first.

An important topic overall.🚩 Unfortunately, people who feel alone fall for it again and again. But the desire for love is sometimes stronger than reason. Basically applies: block, report, delete. Unfortunately, online dating is actually not safe for women, especially very young women. My girlfriend has been dating online for a while and always told me when and where she was meeting because I was always worried. (But online dating has been a success for her.🙃😊) It's a pity that you have so many spams with your commercial email. That robs valuable energy. All the better that you address it and say it. I called his bluff, and invited him to meet me, publicly. He came up with last-minute excuses for not being able to meet. [Lots of fun details left out but, bottom line...he failed!] 2. Someone I met online (a GREAT Guy), proposed...but we had met in person and I had talked to his family - including his mom - before the Proposal. It only ended bc my "emotional fighting style" kicked in, and I said something deplorable (but I really believe we weren't supposed to be together. He was "practice.") 3. Somebody RECENTLY pretended to be my Crush, and I totally ignored him from the start. No dialogue. Even my trust issues have Trust Issues, so they get no traction. Thank you for talking about this. I'm experiencing something similar as we speak. The difference is that I know it's a scam and I'm trying (as much as futile as it probably is) to gather evidence so I can report them - since I have a way of doing this. The goal is to try to take at least this one person out of the equation so someone more naive will not fall for something like this. Also it can be really fun to confuse and fluster a scammer. I have so much empathy for celebrity's, actors, idols, famous youtubers, etc. They are paid to entertain you, and are very vulnerable to those that are very toxic to their career paths. Just like any job, they have the right to their privacy and do not owe the public anything. If an account is not verified, it is not them. I just block them and go on with my day! There are very few celebs, etc that would directly reach out to anyone. They may do a LIVE and answer questions, but that's it! Even if you are part of their fan base and pay for a membership to their fan club, they still don't. Their safety is the most important and their management companies make sure that they abide by the protocols and rules that are set up to keep them safe. Famous youtubers may reach out, but you know when it's them. I have several I chat with, and they do not give their address or meet up with random people. My friend lives in Korea and is a famous youtuber. She has even appeared in a netflix kdrama so she has become even more famous. Thankfully, she has taken all the steps to remain safe. Lonely people are vulnerable, and most celebs are lonely. They are in a very small world trying to achieve a dream.

I'm still scared for the first one....now i understand how much stupid i was when i was young.. yeah but these ppl make u feel that he/she cares for u.. and they pretend to be good person actually they are not.. and as a young teenager it's not like u believe him/her.. u just want to.. still please don't fall for it listen to ur inner voice.. and whatever.. as an adult i still regret but at least i learnt something I never told these things to anyone but i think.. ahh I'm quite comfortable to tell this now may be bcz i don't care if some ppl would judge me.... Or may be I'm not afraid of being criticised whatever.... Still please don't judge

Thank you for talking about this! I must admit, it is reasons like this that I don’t like having much of an online presence via social media. I didn’t know about the deepfake technology, but I can’t say I’m surprised… Also, I am so sorry that people spam you, especially through your work email…I really hope they stop (if anyone reading this falls into that group of spammers, PLEASE STOP) Hope all is well, keep being awesome! Well said. 👏👏👏I think this is a helpful video. I'm grateful you were so honest and direct. There comes a moment in every life when we all feel lonely and being able to chat or send messages so easely to someone we admire makes us "indirectly" believe we are close to the person. The truth is that we don't actually know the person or we know very little about her. Great video. 🙏🏻💙

This thing happened with me too like twice and thrice and everytime they pretend to be a Korean guy which at the end they were not but they didn't asked me for money but for something else which is really serious and a scary topic to talk about. Thankyou so much for talking about these people Dan 😊 and making people aware of these fake users

I will admit I have had this happen to me as well. Someone tried to catfish me by pretending to be a celebrity, I talked to the person for about three months. It was very simple conversations, but there were so many little things in those text messages that were so fishy, that there was no way I would believe I was talking to who the person claimed they were. It was bad. Never saw their face (they refused every time I asked) or heard their voice and I tried, tried to convince them to do it too. I had to roll my eyes at a lot of the things the person said, because they were so weird and often over the top... Anyways I ended things after he asked for inappropriate things. I will admit I was torn at parts, I am a normal functioning human woman, I also played the "what if" game while talking to the person, but my logic and suspicious nature kept that imaginative, wishful part of my brain in check.

This is really …a very actual subject of debate, questions to ask, answers requested from the people responsible of this field… indeed😢 I was thinking myself: maybe some entertainment agencies or persons inside- encourage this kind of “fan contribution”, because donations are not taxed and because when they are asked if they are or not connected with an email adress (…), nobody answers, nobody deny or agree, or make a statement of delimitation… this is only a K- phenomenon or is global? This kind of insecurity and confusion they do, cannot be prevent? … some of them are extraordinary smart and act phenomenal.

All the scammers are so annoying. I had someone not long ago was saying, my mom died when I was young and my dad died when I was in my 20s. I'm alone and just moved, and trying to get a new job in another country. Then it was, he was there for the interview and lost his passport and money and could I help him and he would pay me back the next day... report, block, delete.... Even friends I've known my whole life never ask for money. They seriously go for your sympathy. You think it is a normal person wanting to be friends, but it is a creep. Private account now, lol

First, you are adorable! Interested in an older American woman? 😂 Seriously though, I LOVE when scammers message me. I’ve talked to 20 different people claiming to be different members of BTS. I know from their first message they are scammers. But I play along to waste their time. Currently the scam is that I do not have the proper membership card (even though I know i have the correct one) and their management won’t let them talk to me until I buy the official one which costs anywhere from $300-$3,000 dollars. I am VERY GOOD at detecting scammers. They have a certain “speech” pattern in their messages. Wish we lived closer together to collaborate on this and educated others. It amazes me the people that fall for it. Because quite honestly, the scammers are not very good at it.

I constantly get DM’s from “celebrities”. I have to laugh bc these kdrama actors message me in ENGLISH. OK. I know they may know a little bit of English but to start a conversation in English with a profile picture of me with an Asian face (Korean), it makes me laugh. It’s so obvious it’s a scammer. No celebrity would ever reach out to me on social media. I’m completely aware of that and not hurt by it. It’s the reality. I also ignore my DM’s by random regular people, as well. 😆 Anyway, good video. People need to hear it.

Hello Danny, nice hearing your voice☺️ First of all, thank you so much for your video. We highly appreciate your wisdom, your advices to all of us, and the father figure talk👨🏻🦱 Second, thank you for understanding the circumstances of how some people are victimized. It breaks my heart to hear how people are scammed despite being very smart❤️🩹 Nonetheless, living in the technology era 📲 leave us a bit vulnerable due to loneliness and the desire to connect with others🥺 We are social beings. I do not blame them, just the circumstances. It is very important to raise awareness to avoid future incidents, as you state: it is a red flag🚩🚩🚩Lastly, I am sorry to hear you say that some people who follow you have being spanning your social media and interfering with your work😣 So sorry, people need to exercise good manners and respect others😌 It is outrageous how some of these people want you to be a detective. That was the cherry on the top🫤. You are such as nice, gentle guy 😇 who does not deserve this treatment🙏 As busy as you might be, thank you so much for answering comments on IG, and for interacting with real fans. Positive comments always lift up our spirit and soul. Stay healthy, eat your meals always 😉🫶🫰💜

I send you DM once in a while, even when you don't reply. I don't want to cross the line. I write DM because I want to share my thoughts with you without others to read it, too. I am a person who choose to follow/support someone because I truly like the views of their videos and pictures (as I am a photographer). It can be really hard to communicate with someone on the internet because on the other side of the screen, it can be anyone. In the end, a troller or a scammer will exposed themselves. You can't keep a lie forever. I am happy that you talk about this subject of someone being untrue from online and trying to fool you to take advantage of your innocence. I think many people need attention from people online because in real life, it can be very hard to communicate with people. I have Autism which makes it really hard to get in contact with new people, and I often end up alone in a company of many people. It really upset me, and sometimes, it is easier to just talk with a stranger. Even online.
