I think one of the things that make these videos so enjoyable to watch is these people are clearly very interested in their job and they love what they do. That makes a huge difference in a video.

I've just started viewing your videos; I've always wanted to become a deep sea marine biologist.. But life and wrong decisions made that practically unattainable.. Bad decisions and other "life choices" blew away my dream of becoming a Meteorologist. I'll be 40 by the time I get back my freedom to work, I'm not in jail, but raising 3 kids in an unsupportive family with zero childcare - I might aswell be. Life begins at 40 so they say, mine actually does! Basically, its never too late...🙂

You're exactly right, they are for scale -the lasers are parallel and are set exactly 10 cm apart. They are really helpful when the only reference for an unfamiliar sea dealy is another unfamiliar sea dealy.

@@c.b5996 Well they all are related, coconut crabs are actually just very large hermit crabs, and as stated in the video, king crabs are hermit crab relatives that produce their own shells.

Literally the sea life is so unreal all I can’t stop thinking about is getting to go on a research mission just to see this dark alien world of all well crafted species of life forms. All of them just as curious to examine us cause to them we are friends and food too on occasion

Interesting footage. What depths? Lat. & Long.? A major Los Angeles County sewage outfall is located at 60 m on the PV shelf and years ago before upgrades in treatment there very few sea urchins in the area.

That's one of the reasons snorkelers and divers are careful when they enter the water from the shore. There are plenty of urchins that live in shallow water, although I've never seen any that are such a beautiful shade of pink.

How many species predate upon crabs down there? Is the list comparable to shallow waters? What are the odds one of the Octopi observed originally consumed the bulk of the dead crab? I don't imagine anything would expend more energy than necessary moving about.

Does seismic activity release water dissolved methane? In the Cameroonian lakes a mud slump or local seismic event can catalyze release of large amounts of CO2 into the atmosphere with catastrophic effect on the animals and plants in the path of the resultant downhill flow.. Is there a similar process at work re: methane in the sea?
