Thank you so much for this! After covid I went to college right out of highschool and dropped out bc of mental health issues. Now, applying back, felt so overwhelming. I decided I wanted to do interior design but when they asked for me to design a space I was so scared and overwhelmed. This really helped!

This was so helpful! I'm applying to university (from the UK) for the next academic year and I'm starting to get my portfolio together. I currently work full time at B&Q (which is the UK's version of Home Depot) as a Kitchen Designer. I'm planning on using some of my designs from work in my portfolio so which category would this fall under? I can include HD renders and also floor plans with measurements etc. Thank you!

That is amazing you are working as kitchen designer before studying interior design. You are goin to start of very strong! I would say you can showcase your best designs + renders you have done at B&Q under a section called "Projects" and then show floor plans & maybe elevations of other projects under "Detailing" category

Hey Chavez, how would a person do the construction drawings without even knowing the measurements or the basis of drawing a room layout?

since it's for applying for college, it's not so critical to be right about everything. But, you can find measurements by googling or take out the measuring tape and measure a space yourself!

It all depends on the school's requirements! Every school is different and require different portfolios so I would just double check that.

Hey! You don’t have to be great at drawing to become an interior designer. I know many designers that don’t have the drawing skill sets and are fantastic at design interiors ☺️ hope that helped!
