The windshield wiper turning button is for adjusting the frequency of the wipers when in interval mode. Set the wiper stalk to interval, then turn the knob to adjust the frequency of the wiper.

I had a base 997 a few years back with just the basic radio. I wanted to add an amp and subs like you. I ended up buying the factory sub box off eBay and mounting it in the rear so it looked like a factory install. I put the amp in the front where the factory disc changer usually is. It was a clean install and the factory subs actually sounded pretty good.

I experienced this with my M5. When I purchased it, I knew the radio didn't work, and all the OEM harness was completely jacked. After about 2 years of putting it off and using a B/T speaker in the car (super jenky like)....I said I have to fix this. I purchased the entire audio harness for the car used, spent the entire day, cutting the harness, soldering, heat shrinking, pinning new plugs as needed, bought all the OEM speakers, amps, navi units, etc, and finally got the radio to work! It was a great feeling with a ton of work. The first road trip I took in it, being able to finally isten to music from the car's sound system was..."music to my ears" lol. Keep up the great work!

21:32 I went exactly the same way when I installed my backup cam on my 996.2 Carrera (4 or 5 years back - car already sold meanwhile). Funny you came up with the same idea. Removing all the panels and putting it all together again took me a few hours on a weekend. It was way much more work than I expected. 22:42 yes, keep it as it is... leave the original stuff as is... exactly how I did it, too (been there, done that) If I buy another C2 (which is a possibility right now, I am thinking/ waiting for the proper car... which may also be a Porsche again) I would like to do a center console delete as it can be seen in some of the GT3 of that era. TBH, if I would do a new headunit - I would go for the Porsche Solution (not sure what it is called, but there is one available exactly for 996 to update the radio/navi system). It has that OEM look I like... but if I did that, I couldnt do the center console delete (you need one slot for heater head unit). Yikes she said, thats what she said. Keep them coming, I like this content (and makes me want a 996 again, too).

I'm assuming you're seeing it as 4 front speakers as two tweeters and two door speakers. These can be on a crossover or a resistor could be in place. I'm assuming the factory amp would've worked as the crossover. If I were you I would run a resistor from the tweeters and run it to the main speaker then directly to the stereo and just bypass all that dodgy wiring remove all the amp wiring and just run all of your own. It Saves you all the fault finding time and you know it's all done properly.

Just from the switch and image on the switch and the level of half ass mods done to this car I’d say it had a rear windshield wiper at some point and they probably just took the arm off and shoved the motor under the back shelf, left it in place or took it out and just cut off the wires and they’re back in there exposed sparking Everytime you hit the switch

I once paid "professionals" at Circuit City to install a head unit, amps, speakers, and subs in a vehicle. They ran RCA cables from the head unit to the amps like they should, but then they ran speaker wire from the amps back to the factory radio harness in the dash to splice into the factory speaker wires 🤦‍♂ You just never know what you're going to get...

I've either done my own audio work or the 2 times that I had professionals do the work I went to the 2 best high end shops in the area. I hacked up my cheaper vehicles because I was a broke kid and didn't care much about a few imperfections on those vehicles. But when I got a little older and had more money with nicer vehicles I saved up to get the top end equipment available then and I wanted to make sure that it was installed perfectly. I discovered that if I got a complete system from those shops and I had them do the installation that they give discounts if I asked for one. I got 25% off the system simply by asking.

@@sutherlacd27 Well, yeah, back when I paid for the installation at Circuit City, I was in college and ended up having to rewire everything myself anyway, so I learned very quickly the old adage, "you get what you pay for." Also, this was back when Circuit City was in business, so that should indicate how long ago this was lol

@@sutherlacd27 has anyone ever attempted a GT3 center exit exhaust on a turbo? I'm not sure if the layout allows it but it would be an interesting build. Highly recommend going with jl audio for the Amp and subwoofer for the long term solution. Slash series Amp and they make a really shallow 10 inch subwoofer that won't take up much space. Or you could look at the little 6.5" sub they offer. IMO nobody beats jl audio for sound quality. I Highly recommend staying away from any of the bose crap. I don't know if the 996 had a bose system option from the factory or not. It came in my 997.1 though. And I am definitely not impressed. The bass note is pathetic and at higher volume the distortion is ridiculous. I want to rip out my bose crap and put in focal speakers for the component speakers and then do the shallow 10 inch jl audio sub with the jl audio Amp. I ran 2 different jl setups in the past and both were incredibly impressive. Worth the price
