Sum up: - IF is good also for vegan - Do IF only a 2-3 days a week (since it is hard to maintain nutrient density with that many restrictions - vegan * 16h fast) - Do not break a fast with nuts - Do not break fast with fats - Do not finish eating window with carbs - Break a fast with low fiber veggies - Consume antioxidant foods (berries) - Break a fast with a small meal, and then eat a larger meal after 60-80min - Let next meal be also low in fat - Let second meal be low with GI - Always keep fats and carbs separate

He lost me at “as vegans know it’s harder for them to get nutrients” to me that says he thinks animal flesh is more nutrient dense. Veganism isn’t a diet it’s a lifestyle. Adopt a healthy lifestyle and eating nutrient dense food is super easy. These meat eaters are fasting for diet reasons bc they’re “lifestyle” is killing them.

Hard to maintain nutrient density as a vegan? Um. . . Try WFPB vegan. Nutrient density crushes anything else ot there.

@@Philipyourlungs At first I thought this was my comment. Yeah, I agree. But also, sometimes it is very hard to find healthy vegan food when you are out of town and not cooking (at least in Serbia), so IF comes good for those moments... Also if you eat more omega6 then omega3, and have some bed skin condition because of that... IF could solve it

Happy you did this video but 1) Why do you have in mind that the vegans watching this video and doing IF are going to be rather unhealthy vegans that don’t know how to track macro/micros and nutrients and adapt your video in consequence. Meat eaters don’t always know macros/micros either lol.. and a vegan diet often has much more nutrients in forms of antioxidants as vitamins. 2) What do you have against soy exactly ? You didn’t use any research whatsoever when talking about soy. Plenty of body builders (IFBB pros) are vegan and eat plenty of soy and are perfectly healthy. I’m vegan, my blood tests are perfect, I lift and exercice every morning! And I feel 1000x better and look better since going vegan :) I watch pretty much all your videos and I’m just curious !

So I'm vegan and I have watched this video, specifically the 9:45 mark about breaking the fast, several times. And while I appreciate you making a video specifically for vegans and vegetarians, I still wasn't sure exactly what to eat. Mainly because you mentioned a lot of different foods, but not things that necessarily go together. Like spinach, dark chocolate, Hemp seeds, hemp milk were some of the foods mentioned. But I'm like should I make a smoothie out of this? Should I just eat a hand full of Hemp seeds? What do I do with these chickpeas, just cook them and eat them alone? Because once you get into a recipe with chickpeas, now I'm not sure if its good for a fast due to the other ingredients. I guess I was hoping for an actual example of what to eat to break the fast. Maybe I thinking about this too hard. I always feel like I'm breaking my fast wrong. Even though Hemp milk was mentioned, it has a good amount of sugar in it. Can I still drink it or wait until the larger meal? Can someone give me specific examples of things they actually eat to break their fast? I just want to get this right.

well my opinion I don't care much about the fiber intake on my last meal so I'd recommend these two example meals that are high protein, moderate fat and low carb: some tofu, season it well and pan fry it, accompany it with some boiled broccoli and carrots seitan stir fry, fry up the seitan a little bit in olive oil with garlic before adding some cauliflower, bell pepper, cherry tomatoes and mushrooms

Interesting take on not taking carbs and fats together. I've seen other research that shows that the value of having a mix of macros will allow protein and fat to blunt the insulin spikes from Carbs, as does light exercise. So, in that sense, having some healthy fats (not a lot) and going for a good walk after eating a higher carb (still low GI) will greatly reduce the impact of the glucose. You might actually be doing a disservice to yourself by not mixing some of the macros with the carb meals. I do like the idea of keeping the carbs to the middle of the eating window and not at the fasting break or before you start again.

Steve Jobs observed a vegan/fruitarian diet and fasting, and died of pancreatic cancer... Ashton Kutcher followed Steve Jobs' diet regimen for purposes of method acting and was hospitalized because of his pancreas... Vegans will immediately get defensive about this and tell you it's just coincidence or that "he didn't do it right," but the fact is that the body tries its best to maintain balance and compensates for what you do to it; when you eat a high carbohydrate diet all the time, your fasting insulin level will naturally increase in anticipation for the blood sugar, and on the other hand your fasting insulin levels will naturally decrease if you follow a ketogenic diet or when you intermitting/extended fast. However, when you fast and then break your fast with all carbohydrates, which is the primary macronutrient in vegan diets whether you're a "fruitarian" or not, your pancreas has tremendous stress because it goes from periods of very little insulin demand to a sudden massive demand, and because it doesn't just turn on and off like a light switch the pancreas has to work extra hard to perform its insulin and enzyme production functions the result of this is damage to the cells of the pancreas, and those damaged cells can become cancerous. Think of it like working at a restaurant and there are no customers, so the managers send a lot of the kitchen staff and servers home, then suddenly a big bus full of customers shows up all at once and absolutely swamps the remaining crew that are there and they are dramatically understaffed to handle the workload, and with the amount of stress it puts on them and even though they work as hard as possible, they just can't keep up and some people can't handle it and just walk out and quit. This is in essence what happens to the cells of your pancreas. When you break a fast of any duration, you always want to do it with foods that are very low glycemic, very low insulinogenic foods to minimize the shock to the pancreas, and that's much more difficult to do on a vegan diet than an animal based low carb ketogenic/carnivore diet.

pancriatic cancer usually takes people out very swiftly, he lived with it for many years past the usual expectancy. he actually died from an operation not the cancer.
@mikekumaus40984 жыл бұрын
mich jills well here's a little intro to oncology lesson for you because everything you said is untrue: there are two main types of Pancreatic Cancer, the vast majority are adenocarcinomas, and adenocarcinoma has about a 6 month survival prognosis... if it's diagnosed at stage 4. People diagnosed with early stage pancreatic adenocarcinoma have a 34% shot at living longer than 5 years... However, Steve Jobs did NOT have adenocarcinoma. He had a much rarer, Neuroendocrine tumor, which is often asymptomatic in early stages, sometimes for years, and has a much higher 5 year survival rate than adenocarcinoma, 55% in early stage and 45% in the later stages... So your assessment is wrong. Also Steve Jobs died in his home, not in a hospital, not during a surgery or immediately following a surgery. So literally everything you've said is misinformation you've gotten somewhere by mistake, or it's just a lie. not sure which is the case, and I don't really care, but I'm happy to clarify either way.
@mikekumaus40984 жыл бұрын
lesson 2: Pancreatic Neuroendocrine tumors affect the cells that produce hormones. The EXACT type of neuroendocrine tumor Steve Jobs was diagnosed with was an Insulinoma... cancerous beta cells... which is exactly the type of cancer you would get from the damage caused by his diet which I described above... www.mskcc.org/cancer-care/types/gastrointestinal-neuroendocrine/pancreatic-neuroendocrine-islet-cell-tumors

De Lauer recommends breking an extended fast with rice cakes. Surely these are high GI & spike insulin? Are you saying his advice is wrong? (not being sarcy, genuine question). I do take issue with your combining the words 'fruitarian/vegan' though. Fruitarian diet is stupid. Vegan diet can quite easily be high protein, low carb too. Plant based eating is not all high carb by any stretch. Even vegan keto is doable. Harder, yes, but doable.

I am a vegetarian doing OMAD, can someone explain to me why Thomas doesn't recommend going over a 20 hours for a fast as a vegetarian?
@praknetlg5 жыл бұрын
Br0ski0fTheWeek that’s because he says you won’t get enough calories during fasting days eating only 4 hours.. but again says if you are experienced you can always manage your higher calories intake during eating window like I do... if you stick to whole food plant based diet really you get all micro and macro nutrients... hence the experienced vegan comes into play.. hope it helps... I am an experienced long term vegan and I life weights too... I lost significant fat and able to keep it out and build muscle too

I've done 24 hour dry fasts with great benefits as a vegan, it's usually on a weekend where I can rest up and don't need extra calories.

Very information!! One critique is that no one study proves anything. So saying “the journal a pediatrics proved” that vegans are deficient in omega-3s is misleading. Vegans can be, and a portion are deficient in omega-3s. However, that’s because they don’t get enough, not because they can’t get enough on a plant-based diet.

How about fruits in the morning? Too much sugar to a sensitive metabolism? Fruit should also not be mixed with grains, so only fruits with protein powder is a good solution?

Thanks for this... Everyone keeps saying IF you don't need to do Vegan to lose weight... Okay but what if I actually am vegan? I'm not doing it as a diet it's my lifestyle

I learned from one of your videos that a fast-breaking meal should not have carbohydrates and fat together to avoid fat storage. With that in mind, is it a good idea to break the fast with oats in boiled zero-fat milk?

Thank you for this! However I feel confused, I believe you had recommended females eat Brazil nuts when intermittent fasting. I hear in this video that you don’t recommend eating them on fasting days. Can you or anyone else reading help clarify?

Simple break down: fast 16/8 3 days a week, not in a row though, and break your fast with a hemp or pea protein shake. Make sure your last meal of the day is high fat low carb to retain muscle and stay satiated while you’re fasting.
