What Women Should Eat in a Day on Keto - Thomas DeLauer
Low carb and keto can be slightly different for women. Not a whole lot different, but different enough that it warrants its own video with its own meal plan. So what I've done in this video is I've broken down the scientific data, and from that I've compiled what I would say is a very ideal female keto plan. So I've taken the scientific data plus things that my wife does with her diet, and I've put them all together and said, "Okay, this will be a great video to explain what the female ketogenic diet should look like." Now, this is not everything, right? There's a lot of information, and I put so much content out, so much in my videos, that you could see eventually things are going to cross and conflict. But I figured this is a great place for people to start if you don't know where to start or if you just want some good entertainment to share with your friends and family that are learning about keto.
So the women keto plan. So here's what you're going to do. First, I want you to start your day with apple cider vinegar and lemon water. Okay? You can put a little stevia in if you need to. What this is going to do is this upregulates something known as AMPK, okay. AMP protein kinase. Okay. What this does is this signals the body to start pulling energy from its stored tissues and then it downregulates this in the brain. So what that means is that it tells the brain that you're full, but it tells the body that you're hungry. So the body starts to pull tissue like fat for energy. So it's a great way to start the day, whether you're keto or not, to be completely honest.
Okay, so meal number one, we're keeping the fats the highest in the morning. This seems weird because it seems like it'd be hard to digest, but there's a study that was published in BMC Genomics that actually found, believe it or not, that we have less likelihood of storing fat in the morning than in the evening, which means we can get away with consuming more fat in the morning. Therefore we generate more ketones and have more energy. And it's all because the fuel accumulation genes, basically what allows us to accumulate fuel as fat, are working in our favor in this case. So here's what I recommend. One whole cage-free pasture raised egg plus two yolks. And I talk about this for men too. Very, very important.
Now, I don't want you to munch on a single thing for three hours, okay? Three hours later you can have a little snack, but here's what it is, all about thyroid support with this snack. This is a thyroid power punch meal, okay? We're talking a little bit of seaweed snacks. If you can handle them, you don't have to have them. Seaweed snacks, I think are delicious, and just a few Brazil nuts, seaweed snacks [inaudible 00:04:47] iodine.
Then at least a couple hours later. So this is at say maybe 7:00 AM-ish, 8:00 AM-ish, and then you're having this around 10:00 or 11:00 and then here maybe have like 1:00 o'clock, something like that. Within that ballpark. This is your lunch option. Okay. And I gave you two options here and I'll explain why. Okay. First off, we have grass-fed grass-finished meat. Okay, go for a good quality red meat that's grass-fed, grass-finished, and do a burger. If you have to go to a restaurant, ask them if it's grass-fed, grass-finished. It's probably not, but one or two times isn't going to kill you. Okay? So normally you want to have good quality stuff at home.
Now let's move into dinner. Now I know you're going to see fish here and some of you might be thinking, "I don't like fish," okay? I have some alternatives for you. It's okay, but this is ideal. Lean fish. We're talking like a Pacific Cod or we're talking like even a halibut would be perfect. A lean fish. And then either that or a shellfish. I prefer scallops, okay. Or mussels. The nice thing about scallops and mussels, high levels of zinc, talking about the thyroid again to you ladies.

@@janjoy9759 If you're concerned about cholesterol, I've heard and read that it's the sugar in combination with fat that causes issues, not the fat itself. If you are on keto, you are not consuming sugar or enough carbs for it to be a problem, I would think. Also, try to eat more fat sources from olive oil, avocado oil, coconut oil than grassfed butter. But butter is good for you too. A combination is great. But as always, don't trust me...your own research is better. Happy New Year and best wishes with your endeavor!

Hi Thomas, I'm new to Keto. I was wondering your thoughts on green drinks? Are those bad? I used to be vegetarian until I got pregnant and then they told me to eat meat and then I gained a lot of weight because I ate processed meat. I'm glad I found your channel because I avoided Keto because I thought it was eating bacon on bacon with bacon sauce, you know "Dirty Keto" and it wasn't something I was into. But after watching your videos, I'm soo happy that you have illustrated that you don't have to eat salami bacon lettuce sandwich to lose weight! Looking forward to your thoughts on green drinks, because I have a masticating juicer and I'd love to drink my greens still.

**1st thing ACV & Lemon Water (add stevia if needed) **Work out -in a fasted state BREAKFAST-highest fat meal - 1 whole egg, 2 yolks cooked in ghee - 1-2oz smoked salmon on top - Coffee with 2 tbsp canned coconut cream No snacking About 3 hours after breakfast- SNACK - Seaweed snacks - 3 Brazil nuts About 2-3 hours after snack -LUNCH - Burger (good quality grass fed) - 1/4-1/2 avocado - Kite hill cream cheese (non-dairy, almond based) - Caprese -basil, vinegar, tomato, cucumber, Buffalo mozzarella Alternative-- - Cobb salad with baby kale or spring mix - White meat chicken (no dark meat) - Non dairy ranch (Or packet ranch with no msg mixed with yogurt or sour cream) - 1 hard boiled egg - Bacon (organic, good quality) No snacking -fat burning time! - If you have to eat consume a drink that gives minimal insulin spike -Water, Ginger juice, ACV, Lemon juice, Stevia About 5 hours after Lunch-DINNER - Lean fish (pacific cod, halibut) or shellfish (scallops or mussels) - Zucchini noodles or spaghetti squash - 1tbsp coconut oil and 1tbsp ghee and a little garlic - Cruciferous veggies (bok choy, broccoli, cauliflower, kale) Supplements - Pea protein powder as a post workout or bfast substitute - Vitamin D3 and K2 blend (2000iu -consult doctor) - DIM (300mg -consult doctor) - Curcumin

I have watched a bunch of you videos and started Keto 3 days ago. I got on it because of all the inflammation in my body causing major pain especially in my locked shoulder. In 3 days my shoulder hurts way less than before and I am down 2.5 lbs. I also have energy, and I haven't had energy in YEARS! I am so stoked about this. I will continue to watch all your videos. -@Digitalbumpin -well all of keto is not a fad junk diet. I know many eat junk on keto. I think eating healthy and learning the ratios of the macros help in weight loss. Learning how to not spike insulin has been very helpful for me, so I can't eat whatever I want. I don't think anyone needs negative comments towards efforts to help others. That is completely unnecessary.

Hi Thomas and thanks for your video - love that it's geared specifically toward women. I found you about 2 years ago when I was going to start keto but then didn't when my doctor said it wasn't a healthy diet! Two years have gone by, I'm still overweight (Obese per the BMI), and spinning my wheels with other diets. Recognizing obesity isn't healthy either, I'm back to keto after being inspired by a friend who between her and her cousin lost 200 lbs! I'm turning 60 in November and want to lose the 40-50 lbs I need to become healthier. This video is so helpful since it focuses on the clean foods to eat, not the hot dogs, sausages and deli meats. Thanks for keeping it real!

Watching from Germany. Love your stuff and how you go into detail. I started with Atkins in the early Nineties and I am astonished how far the keto science has come. I do fall off the waggon sometimes, but in general, keto has been a lifesaver for me. Especially because I was diagnosed with breast cancer 5 years ago. Keep up the good work.

Hi Thomas thank you for your usual facinating information. I need help because keto impacts my pms in a bad way like off the chains bad i am a emotional and mental wreck and i have more intense cramping during my period . I would love to go back on keto but i need help in this area. Also since keto a lot of things impact me. I cant seem to digest food properly everything gives me heartburn. I also tend to cannot stop eating if i eat in the morning

I would love to see how you would structure this on two meals a day. To stay in a caloric deficit it is much more doable for me to fast until lunch. I usually have my “breakfast” after working out around noon then nothing util dinner.

I have just started looking into keto after i accidentally found a video online about the sources of civilisational disease and why almost everyone over 30 years old is sick with something or has some pains etc. The video outlined the process of evolution of human nutrition from the time when we had fed on whateever we were able to find nearby, and how it progressed to farming and now industrial scale level farming where even flour in bread has to be vitamin fortified because we dont get enough of those from normal food. This was absolutely eye opening. And i did notice thinking, why in my 30s i have cystic/acne, why do i have cellulite, why is my skin dry? why do i get tendon pain, knee pain and back pain? why do i have migraines every day that weren't there before. Obviously the video pointed to the keto way of eating. So since then i have been going through your videos to learn about the good ways of doing keto and i found them really helpful. Also i will be moving to the US soon and the American diet is particularly terrifying with all the added ingredients so your guides on what to buy/avoid in specific supermarkets are sooooo extremely helpful! Thanks a lot!

I appreciate the no dairy because when I tried keto the first time after having been vegan, I had really bad inflammation and was retaining sooo much water because of the dairy. As soon as I cut it out again I felt so much better.

I would be willing to pay for your service to create a plan that had more days. I was just diagnosed with Hoshimoto thyroiditis and was told to stay away from carbs and go keto! I would love to see some menus for If, vegetarian (no dairy, just occasional eggs and fish). I eat daily some organic tofu and fatty soy yoghurt without carbs and veggies. It would be of great help if you give me more ideas!

I am doing keto + IF... 20 hour of fasting with 4 hours window. I am eating very healthy food, lots of veggies, moderate brocoli and couliflower... moderade protein ( generaly tuna, eggs or meat). The fat I eat come from olives, olive oil, moderate butter(for cooking), and 1tbs of heavy cream on my morning coffe. I am not eating cheese everyday because I dont think it will help me to lose weight. But sometimes when I want to eat something super delicious I cook eggplant lasagna then I add cheese on it. And taste great!!! Its beeing only 3 weeks that I am on keto + IF, but I already lost 6 kg!!! I know that big part of it is water weight but I feel good, I feel healthier and thinner.

The only thing ACV tells my brain when I take it first in the morning is that my stomach needs to THROW UP! No matter the level of dilution. Nausea that stays all day.

I noticed if I take ACV with ice cold plain or sparkling water and siping not gulping all at once there’s no adverse effect. Lemon goes well with hot water. 🤷‍♀️😂

On first day IF and just kitted myself out with some almond butter, walnuts & salmon for Keto once I come off the fast, after coming across your ultimate guide to IF & Keto, and woman’s guide to IF today!!! Great videos!! Been easing into the Keto way with low carb. Generally followed a strict low carb high protein Mediterranean diet previously.

Great video! Just one thing; hyperthyroidism is when the thyroid is overactive and producing too much and a goiter forms on the neck. I had this for years and got rid of it by changing my diet. Hypothyroidism is when the thyroid is producing too little and in turn slows down the metabolism. Thanks.

I am so glad to have found your youtube! thank you, gives me a lot of answers as I am nearing that category of women who has in just 2 years gone from extra small to medium with the onset of hypothyroidism and of course always had RA and autoimmune issues since childhood, food is becoming an issue as I am intolerant to gluten etc. always struggling but watching your youtube gives me a whole new understanding.

Most don’t count calories they just count the macros. Fat, protein and carbs. Also it differs between everyone anyways based on your activity level and how much fat and carbs and protein you are eating. I’m guessing 1500 calories to 1800 calories for women but I’m not 100% sure. For me it’s 1800 calories my macros are 148g fat, 91g protein and 30g carbs. But I eat less protein and carbs than that and I don’t think I eat that much calories.

I eat around 900 and try to hit roughly 17 net carbs, 40 grams protein, and 85 grams fat. I eat once a day then coffee or teas with coconut oil added twice 🤷🏼‍♀️

whitney zeiger I had the same question. I don’t eat any type of fish. I will probably substitute with chicken and supplement the omega 3s. I’m wondering what the portion sizes are. I’m using this video as a revamp because I’ve been on keto 3 weeks and haven’t even lost an inch and I’m still tired. I’m thinking thyroid which caused this video to be intriguing. Does Thomas DeLauer ever reply to the questions?

He may recommend white chicken but Dr. Eric Berg said all industrial chicken is nasty, but if you have to buy it, get thighs.

To continue, you gave me the push I needed to start the ketogenic diet. Sine it's summer I watched a video a day in the morning as I ate breakfast and eventually before because I was pushing breakfast off. So there's that and I started to lose weight after just one week.

OMG I’m dealing w/that as well. I’ve had 8 months outta 10 now that I’ve been completely shut down, in bed, hating the world one minute, crying my eyes out the next, to totally numb and don’t give a *!*!*!*!*!!, to wanting to scream. I feel like I’m on a never ending emotional roller coaster ride into the abyss. By the time it all passes I’m so tired and blah feeling that I still feel down. (And my hubby doesn’t know what to do or say… poor guy walks on eggshells … he can tell when it’s/I’m about to become a issue).

I went through the same thing with low progesterone, I think I was 32 when it started. My Dr has me take Prometrium 100 mg before bed and it literally changed everything. It’s a natural progesterone in a gelcap. Otherwise the only way I was able to increase my progesterone was with weekly acupuncture, very effective but it was getting too expensive.

Liked this, but it would be most helpful to discuss the theory behind the components of each meal (you did that to an extent) so we can clearly know how to vary it day by day. No one will eat the same meals over and over, of course. More general with a specific example or two for each point seems more helpful. Also, please keep in mind that not all women are in need of fat burning -- some of us have reached our goals with keto and IF and are just trying to maintain body weight.... Tx!

Hello, I'm a 45 year old women and my husband and I love your videos and information. It has been so helpful to start a clean keto diet. I just started my diet yesterday morning and I woke up today with a huge sugar crash. Any suggestions on what I'm doing wrong? I didn't eat a ton of carbs before so not sure why it happened. I love your content Thomas, I just wish you had been more detailed in when to take the supplements. I also wish for this video that you had listed the items or meals in a list format to be able to see at a glance all the things I need to buy at the super market like you did on the first “Do Keto with me” video. -P.S. I also agree with many of the ladies below on regards to meal timing. Because you always recommend working out fasted so that is what I’ve gotten used to, if I have breakfast at 8 am there’s not much of a window for fasted exercise. Please adjust! Thanks for all the great information I appreciate it very much because you’ve made this journey THAT much easier. ❤️❤️

FINALLY!! Thank you for addressing women. I'm 57 and have put on so much post menopausal weight (50#) I'm sick of feeling crappy. I've worked out most of my adult life and it's not getting my anywhere. Time to try something new! HRT isn't doing much either.

Thanks for the meal plan example, however, could you give one for a 16-20 hour IF day? I don’t eat until 2 pm every day.. how do I best put together the nutrients I need on an IF day? I tend to bloating because I sit all day at work, so need to be extra careful. Thank you, Thomas, you rock👍🏼

Salmon or prawn cooked in coconut creamer taste good just add on turmeric tomato long beans aubergine & pineapple. Thai tomyam paste add to seafood with tomato mushroom cabbage is yummy too

Thank you! I have recently started eating Keto and I have only lost 4 lbs in about 2 months.. I am pear shaped and haven’t lost any inches in my hips. I sometimes eat breakfast if I’m hungry around 8-8:30 and lunch 1:30/2:00 and then nothing or maybe some meat around 6:30/7:00.I would love it if you could put out a women’s keto meal plan with recipes.. If you had a book out I would purchase it... Thanks again for this video.

I've switched my whole egg to a whole duck egg and two chicken yolks. I find the duck egg whites are much easier to digest, are twice the size and taste pretty much the same.

Support your local farmers! I'm in the suburbs of chicago, if I can find a non gmo grassfed cow, chances are you can too. 1/4 cow lasts a family of 4, 6 months. 14 cubic foot freezer is plenty big!

Thank you so much for your videos. You teach me so much; I feel like I should be getting college credit! I am fighting breast cancer (18 months) and I am doing so without the harmful effects of chemo/radiation. Instead I am treating cancer through nutrition as I am starving cancer with the Keto Diet, as well as intermittent fasting, supplements, essential oils, Mistletoe shots and coffee enemas 3x a week. I have 2 questions: 1) Because I intermittent fast, I eat my first meal around 11am. Is that when I should eat the highest fats meal (like the breakfast you mentioned)? 2) I usually do my coffee enemas first this in the morning. Do you recommend doing it at that time on a Keto Diet or is there a better time?

Yes I agree, would live to see a plan focused on like 16-20 hour fasting, during a fast I thought we couldn’t consume lemon? I love drinking acv in the morning or watrm water with lemon but have been clean fasting so can’t do it but I love the science you explain here!
