My oldest son is in his early 20's and he has type 1 diabetes. But thank God for this piece of article kzbin.infoUgkxVYhghKWmrUgXARZ_ydZTvmmcrw5L0I5i At first he thought he had the flu and was lying down on the bed for three days until his sister took him to the hospital. *My daughter drinks lots of water and urinates with the same rate, there are no other symptoms to show if those have anything to do with diabetes. This is a good information that I have gone through **Diabets.Care** She is 2 years 9 months, hale and healthy, have not done any blood test. But I am not certain if one can get diabetes at such a tender age. Please I will like to know more on that*

By the end of October 2019, I was feeling really bad. I was tired all the time, my joints hurt, the bottom of my feet were painful, I was hungry all the time and I was gaining weight at an alarming pace. Then I discovered the problem, excessive sugar in my diet. Not that I was knowingly eating sugar, but it was hidden in all the processed food I was eating. In November 2019, I started to read every food label before eating it. If I saw excessive sugar, I wouldn't eat it. In addition I started doing intermittent fasting on a 18-20 hour fast with a 4-6 hour window for 2 regular meals. Within 4 days I started to feel a better and by two weeks I knew I had found the solution. After 3.5 months I've lost over 40 pounds and I feel great. While I still have another 35 pounds to reach normal weight, I now know that IF is the answer. Thank you!!!! Please keep telling others about this.

I chanced upon Dr Fung's lecture a while back and was fascinated by him. I wasn't obese nor diabetic but I watched his lecturer which he did a few years ago till the end, and was happy to know what I have been doing on and off for years (skipping breakfast) was the right way forward! He made me felt so good about myself 😁 and I could confidently tell my hubby then that it's ok to skip breakfast (he thinks it's very important to have breakfast). Later he too got sold into the idea (he was getting fat 😂) and we both went on IF. It has been over a year now and he said he felt so great that his waistline is now the same as what he had at 20+ i.e. 29 inch! I too lost some weight and felt lighter and more energetic than I was in my teen years (5kg lighter than I am now). So it's not just the weight but also lowering carbs and sugar helps me feel more energetic too! Thank you Dr Fung! You have very good information on how we could take control of our health just by eating right.

I was diagnosed with PCOS at the age of 16yrs. I always tended to be overweight, but naturally began fasting. I would lose weight, but it would always creep back on. I got pregnant at 29, breast fed and lost all the pregnancy weight. 2 yrs later I started slowly gaining weight. At 5'7" and 205lbs in 2016 I was at a loss. I was exercising HARD 5 days per week, doing yoga, meditating and put myself on a 1000 calorie diet. I did that for 14 months, and NOTHING changed. My knees were killing me and I felt awful physically and emotionally. In March 2017, someone mentioned "Intermittent Fasting" to me and I did extensive research and decided to give it a try. I lost 55 lbs and I feel and look AMAZING! Thank you for spreading the word.

Hi Priscilla, I lost 30 pounds within 3 months, but decided to dial it down because I kept getting the "are you ok's" from people. So I eased up on the fasting and decided to structure my eating with fasting, low carb days and diet breaks. I actually make a monthly calendar that I schedule my daily eating habits. Its not a diet, its more of a methodology and then I plan my meals based on that. After doing that I dropped the pounds slowly and I am happy with the results. Now I am on a maintenance program.

Naturopathic physicians are very hard to find in most states, so I was thrilled to find Dr. Fung online. We started on the low carb keto diet, then found it easy to simply delay breakfast until midmorning, then to lunchtime on fast days, Yesterday was a 24 hr--6 pm to 6 pm, with only a few light hunger signals which lasted just a few seconds. Thanks so much for the lifesaving information!

So Monday I started fasting 24 hrs then eating low carb meals. I adjusted my insulin from twenty units to 10 units. In the two months I was on insulin I didn’t loose any weight. My Dr had told me if you loose weight I will get you off insulin. No matter what foods I gave up. I didn’t lose weight. Since Monday I have lost 13 pounds in three days. I gave up my metformin(1000x2)daily. I feel wonderful. Energetic. My arthritis in my knees and feet doesn’t hurt as much. Amazing. I was already fasting on Saturdays for several yrs because of a promise I made God. So switching to every 24 wasn’t that hard. I am going to fast Friday, Saturday, and Sunday. Should be interesting.

Dear Maria, please don't discount metformin. You might need to decrease it but it is not like insulin at all. In fact it might help to increase a beneficial microbe in the gut that may help you loose weight and deal with insulin resistance. By all means I hope you get off the insulin. Best of luck.

Saw my Dr beginning of October and my A1c had dropped to 7. My Dr. was thrilled. Happy, happy, happy. Still haven’t lost more weight.

I am 82, have had Type 2 diabetes for 20 years and, until recently, I was injecting 300 units per day. Since following Dr Fung's fasting (18/8 every day for 2 months) + low carbs, I now use 60 units per day and hope to reduce to zero in the long term.

@@1978UA similar situation here. I lost about 25 lbs and I do 3 to 5 day fasting per month along with omad on weekdays. Diabetes messed up my brain, heart, and my prostate. As of now, my heart is back to near healthy but still working on other issues. Fasted workouts seems to help a lot better.

Dr Fung has become a super hero for pre diabetics. He has made it so easy to understand which is motivating. I was never diagnosed, but always worried about diabetes because my mother and brother were diagnosed. Can we refer to Dr Jason Fung as Professor X

As a health care professional and dentist I kept raising my insulin daily dose and subsequently weight. Should have known better than follow all my endocrinologist advice. He did say if I lose 40 lbs I can get off most of my meds. Not taken seriously enough! I'm 72 years old, still practicing and not ready to die yet. Dr. Fung's on- line discussions gave me enough inventive to turn dietary habits around and hopefully eliminate type 2 diabetes with my spouse, diebetic as well. She also uses metformin and no insulin with better readings than me. Thanks for the mental support! Dr.D

I grew up in Botswana in the late 80s. I only had two meals and thought that was normal. Typically we would skip breakfast, heavy lunch then light supper by 7pm. That was before we started the Western way of eating. Worst thing to happen to us.

There are many doctors promoting (as they should) LCHF and Intermittent Fasting. But Dr. Fung presents it with just a little extra simplicity, clarity and persuasiveness.I never had a diabetes problem, but partly that may be due to my having done Low Carb for about 19 years (starting at age 44). Recently (Aug. 2017) I started intermittent fasting, and lost some weight with it. And all my lipids are great, and my HbA1c is near optimal, at 5.3%.

I have been a big fan of Barry Sears since 2000. He wrote the book The Zone in 1996. "The Zone" refers to the zone of insulin in which the body needs to be for normal metabolic function. I am so grateful to Dr. Fung for researching and teaching nutrition. Most doctors are so closed minded and think and state that diet plays no role in health. I find this to especially be true in the field of psychiatry. Basically, if you are sad then you have a Prozac deficiency, if the prozac makes you a bit manic the you need a mood stabilizer, if you have been on Prozac for a decade and it is no longer keeping you level then you have an Abilify deficiency....... The trend to do bariatric surgery (which is barbaric) rather than fasting is a sick example of poor science and physicians just in it to make money and not to heal.

Thank you Dr Fung for explaining the science behind fasting. Baha'u'llah, the Prophet Founder of the Baha'i Faith also prescribes fasting for a period of 19 days to believers. In addition, one of His core and foundational teachings is that science and religion must be in harmony as wings of a bird. There is definitely wisdom in these Divine teachings and counsel. Thank you

I wish I’d found this podcast 2 years ago. Fascinating stuff. I get Dr Fung’s focus on obesity and diabetes because of his background in treating kidney disease,; and because those issues plague so many people. But ageing - undeniably a chronic and progressive disease - affects us all; and so is a theme that begs to be energetically promoted to get all of us tuned into the amazing benefits of fasting.

The most cogent arguments I've heard from Dr. Fung involve his refrigerator analogy which he described in a conversation with Dr. Rangan Chatterjee. It was brilliant! I repeated it to a morbidly obese person and she was so impressed. She said she had never heard that before. It works best to not use too much jargon when explaining nutrition. Overusing scientific terms tends to turn lay people into a pillars of salt, metaphorically speaking.

Yes, I truly believe in filtered/natural spring water fasting. My shortest fast was for 3days- to give up smoking, 3 days did not cut it for me). So, I then went for 14days fasting (just water) and completely gave up the tobacco - weaned it completely out of my system having a bath every 1- 2 nights (no soap no shower gel) draws the oils and nicotine (gunk) from the pores. My longest fast was 28days- I obviously lost heaps of weight and went 3 times lighter in color (as I am dark skinned). I also experienced floating or very light on my feet on the 20th day. Taking light walks is very essential or rebounding on the spot. Breaking the fast is sooooooooooooo very important; as you have to break the fast with watered down freshly SQUEEZED FRUIT JUICE ONLY ie for another 28days, (then on the 2.5 or maybe 3weeks of organic pureed strained vegetable soups - organic lentils, seeds and nuts - no meats, chicken nor fish until after the28th day of breaking the fast or 56th day. It is ever so important to break the fast very very slowly- do not rush the breaking of the fast-for as many days you fast, then that is the length of time that I broke my fasts - another 28 days. My brother fasted for 40days (like me with just water he broke his fast for 40days). Clean natural spring or filtered or boiled water is very essential (not chlorinated tap water) to keep hydrated. Unfortunately I did not have any medical tests before or after. Anyways that was my experience. For a longer length of time fasting needs to be very strictly controlled- mind power (for a fasting longer length of fasting time, the villi's are literally asleep; need to be woken-up very gradually). I enjoy and love fasting, but too busy atm to do another fast:)
