Dude as a former diesel mechanic having a 345 on my nissan and the same weird symptoms and issue popping with VDC/Slip and some times ABS I was so lost why those would be tripping on a cam sensor fault. And not having access to a good diaq was rough trying to pin point what was going on cause I had JUST redid the whole front brake system a month prior and started to second guess myself like ohhhh crap did I mess up the ABS on those wheels and cause a problem now cause I didn't know the codes were just C1109 and C1130. I didn't want to do the sensor til I know for sure I don't like to just throw parts at broken vehicles til they run right. Thanks to you posting this and it randomly popping in my suggested I now know the ABS/VDC/Slip lights are all just low voltage faults from the stutter of the cam sensor faulting out and is nothing. You just saved me an expensive diaq fee thank you so much for the awesome in depth video.

My Nissan Pathfinder have the same P0340 and stalling, cranks long, etc. Did replaced camshaft sensor to no avail. Did some research and found Nissan have a recall for stalling issue. It calls for ECM relay replacement. I ordered the relay (less than $10) and it fixed my problem. Do replace the relay before buying the expensive camshaft sensor.

I have a nissan xterra 2005 and the same thing is happening to me that this Pathfinder has. Nearly all the lights are on the dash and the engine light sometimes comes on or stays off. Stalled on me 4 times last night while driving, was hard to control the steering wheel when it shut off. Its got to be the Crank Sensor or the Camshaft sensors. I'm so happy I finally found a video on this! I spend nearly 1800$ trying to get it fixed at a nissan dealership yet they didn't even fix the sensor, as a college student on a budget...its hard. I don't even want to take it on the highway for fear of it going out infront of a semi-truck. But now I can get it fix, THANK YOU!

My 350z had the same P0340/intermittent stall issue last year and is a common failure on Nissan engines. The slip and TCS lights go on when the stall occurs. The other 350z owners on the Nissan forums recommended replacing both camshaft position sensors and the crankshaft position sensor since they claimed that those parts would probably fail too. They also recommended that I use the Hitachi sensors rather than the cheap aftermarket sensors. BTW, Autozone sells an aftermarket camshaft sensor (for Nissan) with a lifetime warranty for ~$100 but some people on youtube claim that sensor fails prematurely. I bought the three sensors on Rockauto for ~$100 plus shipping but I only replaced the failing camshaft sensor at first. The other camshaft sensor failed about six months later so I also replaced the crankshaft sensor while replacing the second camshaft sensor. The hardest part about replacing the camshaft sensor on a 350z is removing the funky Nissan connector from the sensor. It's hard to remove the connector with one hand but it can be done without removing the throttle body and other air cleaner parts. The crankshaft sensor is very easy to access from the bottom of a 350z and can be replaced in less than 30 minutes.

Great Video Ivan, I've just replaced a heater matrix on one of these and came across the nasty plastic pipe syndrome - the heater matrix are a common failiure as they get blocked up due to the very fine water ways in them, plus if you have the diesel engine fitted it takes the EGR cooler out at the same time due to lack of water flow in the circuit making it look like the head gasket has failed.....so watch out Niassan owners!!!! Always enjoy your posts Ivan thanks again.

I have a 2009 Vibe with AWD. If anything causes an engine trouble light, it automatically cuts off the VDC, AWD and traction control, giving you the "Christmas tree" of lights on the cluster. I found out that since it is only a 4 cylinder, it does this by design anytime the engine goes into limp mode because all of these systems require power/torque from the engine which is now running at reduced power. It can scare the hell out of you to see all those faults. Can happen for something as simple as a bad O2 sensor.

I replaced the exact sensor (P0430) on my 2010 Frontier about 6 months ago after experiencing loss of power. Ran great for a while. However today the truck stalled and experiencing similar issues, it only has 76k on it but I’m starting to suspect the problem lies either in a bad ecm relay, or IPDM. Once I find a fix I’ll be sure to update.

At 175,000 Miles, this Truck runs perfectly smooth until the intermittent stall & loss of power happens. Within seconds or minutes it restarts and I'm good for another 24 hours +/-. BTW: When it loses power, the brakes and steering are gone, this is very dangerous and it has happened to me.

I replace the Cam Position sensors both B1 and B2 by going over the top of the engine. Had to use a step latter. This way you do not get near the heater hoses on bank 1. It will only take about 10 min and you can use both hands-on Bank 1 passenger side. Drive side Bank 2 is about the same.

Before watching the whole video, I suspect it's either crank sensor or cam sensor that is working intermittently.

If you have this vehicle (or a frontier/xterra from the same time) you absolutely need to replace the pvc heater inlet/outlet hoses with aluminum ones. Dorman makes them and you can get both for less than $100. The stock hoses will absolutely fail, its only a matter of time. If youve hit 140-150k miles, you need to do it. Its a pretty simple fix. If you wait and you're lucky, theyll start leaking a bit. If you arent lucky, they'll blow apart and possibky damage your engine. Replace them before that happens, and replace both. If you try to replace just one, you will almost certainly break the other, leaving your car undriveable and possibly damaging your heater core, which is a much more intense/expensive fix.

I had a brandy new Ford truck (F-2 shitty) that required a "Russian repair". I always place a sheet of cardboard under the engine as a courtesy to my customers when I park in their driveway. Even though it was a new truck, the customer noted that my truck was leaking coolant. I thought he was kidding me, but the upper hose had a defect, a bubble that sprung a leak. Duct tape & a loosening of the cap & off to the dealer. It seemed that the hose was a new design that year & the dealer couldn't order one. I cut out the section, spliced in a steel sleeve, a couple of clamps & ran it for 5 years.

Nissan has a lot of crank/cam sensor issues even in the older ones early 2000's Sentra's come to mind. Was a Nissan tech for 3.5 years came to know them pretty well. Watch out for low oil pressure on the VQ40 when hot. A seal on the timing cover goes and its VERY hard to detect as it is internal to the cover/engine assembly. The plastic pipes just suck and not to mention the whole Pathfinder/Xterra/Frontier transmission oil cooler fiasco pre-2009's or so.

I have a 2004 Nissan Frontier 4x4 3.3L V6. It all of the sudden would just not start. It threw the P0340 Code so naturally I had the County mechanic replace the distributor because that is where the Cam position sensor is; well, it still didn't fire after that. I saw another video that said this code could also be caused by the Crank position sensor, so i ordered one of those and it hasn't arrived yet. I also ordered a knock sensor because I also got that code a while back when I was having misfires and needed to replace spark plug 6. It is winter here in Northern MN and my truck is a long ways away from civilization parked in the snow. I really need some help with this one.

I just google "my Nissan 2018 Pathfinder's engine stopped while driving it and I had to coast to a stop", and found this link on KZbin. After coming to a stop on the side of the road, I tried several times to re-start my vehicle. After several attempts, I thought that I was going to have to call for a tow, and on the last attempt, it started, and I drove home. I checked, and there were no warning lights or signals on my dashboard after this happened. Ah, and this isn't just a problem that happens when it's hot, it just happened to me, and it's early February, Winter in Colorado! I immediately called my local Nissan dealer and made an appointment to have it looked at. I have ALWAYS run premium fuel through my vehicle (getting it either at Costco or Shell), so, the gas is NOT the problem! Has anyone else actually found out what they exact problem is? Having this same exact problem. Changed cam sensor, crank shaft and fuel pump. Still the same problem. Codes are saying O2 sensor now. Can this be the problem?

You had a P0340 before?

I have replaced both bank 1 and 2 sensors, cleared the codes and it was fine for a few days. Then out of the blue stalled at a red light. Throwing P0340 again. Very stumped and only have a basic code reader. Help?

I just changed both cam position sensors because my pathfinder died last week. But it died again today on my way home. The VDC and slip light didn't come on last time but they came on today. since I already change both sensors I don't know what to do, any ideas?
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics7 жыл бұрын
did you scan for trouble codes lol?
@Sunny-jw7qs7 жыл бұрын
I wasn't able to last week because we changed the battery before we scanned for codes so when we scanned it a half hour later, the codes cleared. But since it just happened again I'll scan it and get back to you! Hahah also thanks for the great video and quick reply!

I got my car scanned and three codes popped. P0335 P0340 and P0430. I replaced both sensors but I used aftermarket parts from autozone, could that be the issue? Also I have a 2005 pathfinder just like in your video.

Hey Ivan, with that cam sensor being an integrated circuit, wouldn't an open in the ground wire also produce a flatline zero? I'm just curious. Wouldn't it be like "unplugging" the circuit board? Nice video as usual.

Absolutely, power and ground are equally important.

Hey man thank you for posting this helpfulness. I was not able to watch video right now as my data is about to run outI am having issues with my 3.3L 1998 Nissan Pathfinder chilkoot. It has a lot of trouble reaching proper idle rpm when I first start it. And also now around corners sometimes it will just stall. Heat makes it way worse. Just changed the fuel filter. Small oil leak from "manofold gasket?". Really not mechanical but am trying. I could really use some help. Sucks not being able to go far this summer especially when my dogs have to go swimming. If you could email me sometime thats be awesome. If not cool too I will try to check back on this. Thanks!

IAC Valve. Looking at the right side"driver side" back corner of the upper intake, it is under the corner of the intake. Tap on it when the idle acts up and see if the idle changes. If it doesn't change, tap on it harder with a hammer.

With both systems- what happens to the exhaust pressure, when there is a turbo present? Is it diverted away from spooling up the turbo? (which would negate the "brake effect") Thank you.
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics8 жыл бұрын
+HUBBABUBBA DOOPYDOOP You mean the wastegate? That is usually controlled by intake vacuum so it opens when you let off the throttle.
@HUBBABUBBADOOPYDOOP8 жыл бұрын
motoYam82 Yes, Ivan- thank you. I've never worked on a big tractor (Semi) so I didn't realize their waste gate was that robust. We hear big Riggs go down the highway hill near my Friends house, using the Jake Brake. It's an awesome sound at night!

Great job description. I have a 2006 Pathfinder when driving my gages start to intermittingly turn on and off I can hear the circuit relay clicking while the engine is idling abnormally, was wondering what you think it might be? Please advise.
@PineHollowAutoDiagnostics4 жыл бұрын
hmmm well if you know which relay it is, get a wiring diagram and see what controls it :)

gotta say Ivan I'm more than a little surprised as well as disappointed, I understand your not responsible for every part that fails when working on a vehicle but it seems to me that you caused that part to fail I know it's not a new vehicle but you maybe should have spoken with the owner about splitting the cost of the parts and eaten the labor just saying if you had found it that way you would have something to say about it being a hokie repair

Hey Ivan, silly question but, what's the numbers on the drivers side back passenger door all about?
@Discretesignals8 жыл бұрын
+Mike Taylor I believe that is something a savage yard does. Maybe the door is from the salvage yard.

I have a 2006 Nissan Pathfinder. Having same problem. Taking my car in tomorrow to Autozone. If they crankshaft was bad it would say it right? Because I’m also getting the camshaft replaced Wednesday.
