jing: Power; flow of energy. Qi (chi?): The internal energy that circulates around specific pathways in the body, identified in Chinese medicine as meridians. Shen: Spirit. The consciousness within which the mind and thought function.

This Interpretation of qi is a false western Interpretation. The classics of Chinese Medicine don't imply this whatsoever.

@@JimmySlacksack I could give it a shot. Imagine, once upon a time when there was no scientific knowledge to describe phenomena as they are described through our current scientific paradigm. Still, the phenomena existed and were the exact same as today. Nature works the same way. Now the problem is that not only Chinese language describes reality in a fundamentally different way, due to the luck of alphabet, but the use of pictograms, but also the context that the language describes is also of an ancient era. What had happened is that the translations of the classical Chinese texts, even since the 17th century, were interpreted wrongly. One may find more info in the works of Prof. Paul Unschuld, sinologist from University of Berlin, and a few other academics.

Jing 精 - Qi 氣 - Shen 神. It is a triad that it describes the nature of life according to Daoist thought. The term Jing 精 is different than the term Jin 勁 which means "force". The former Jing 精 could be roughly interpreted in the modern language as the "genetic material", DNA, the "essence" that a creature comes to life with, its "blueprint". Shen 神 could be the modern equivalent of spirit or consciousness. Now that 's a deep rabbit hole to dive into, since modern science still doesn't have a clear definition of what consciousness is. Yet, in the Daoist context it is sufficiently described. Qi 氣 ... is one of the most misunderstood ideas in the western world. It actually implies the in-between link between the genetic blueprint and consciousness. It refers to every function/working of a system which interrelates, interconnects with any number of other systems creating a larger whole. It is important to realise that the pictograms contain layers upon layers of interpretation. The simplest and most essential function of this kind is breathing! The actual image of the pictogram implies a substance in a gaseous state that nurtures Life... the air that we breath, which without our life functions cease after a few minutes.

Some yiquan ppl lost the meaning of naturalness. Sad. But the original focussed on building the trunk then 4 in 1 and whole body power.

everything that exists and is manifest is itself the measurement of this energy. in this case the ruler manifested only because there is something to measure. This energy gives meaning to the demarcation of each interval that makes a ruler or a measuring tape what it is. an inch is an abstract concept. Does an exact inch really exist in nature? to measure natures energy is to dissect it into preconceived compartments
