From my understanding every flight that arrives at Terminal 3 is an international non-Schengen flight and their passengers have to go through passport control to enter Italy. I believe the only way out of Terminal 3 is through passport control so everyone is funneled through there eventually. But yes, just about 15-ish minutes. Thanks for the comment!

I have never done a connecting flight through FCO on the same airline. If it’s on a separate airline I would say yes you will have to claim them and recheck them. If it’s only the same airline, my suggestion would be to ask when you initially checked your bag in Chicago, if the luggage will be “checked through” to your final destination of Lemezia. Sorry that I don’t have a better answer, but I hope you have a good trip!

Thanks for this very helpful video, Brian. In two weeks, when we are scheduled to arrive at FCO at about 12:30pm, we need to catch the only DIRECT Trenitalia train (no train change but likely a stop somewhere) to Florence at 1:53 pm. We only have carryons so no need to stop at baggage claim. Is there a shortcut walk to exit to the train platform directly after passport control bypassing baggage claim area? It would be helpful to know how much time buffer we would have if our plane gets delayed. Thank you!
@bozy106
@bozy106 Жыл бұрын
To my knowledge there is only the one way to get to the trains, which is through baggage claim. But since you are traveling without checked bags it should make it a bit quicker. I will say that both times I’ve flown into FCO that we landed around the same time and it took maybe 2-3 minutes in passport control. I’m not sure if it’s because there are fewer international flights arriving then, if passport control is super efficient, or a combination of both. There never seemed to be many people waiting at passport control upon my arrivals. Thanks for the view and comment and I hope you have a great trip!

@@bozy106 Thanks a lot for such a quick response. Sorry to bother you with one more question. We saw a short 4 year old KZbin video ("How to get to Airport Station @ Fiumicino Rome Airport Terminal 3" ) that shows some travelers appear to be boarding a tram on their way to arrive at FCO train station. Actually, I may have found the answer to my question above. We will be arriving via Finnair (American Airlines codeshare) which, per internet queries, seems to arrive at Terminal 1. Then, I believe, we will need to get to Terminal 3 for passport control and the train station at FCO. Thanks.

That should be plenty of time. I reviewed my personal photos, I took a photo of the countryside as we were landing at FCO. It was at 10:51am. The next photo I have was at at 12:51pm at the metro station in Roma Termini waiting on a metro train to Castro Pretoria. So in exactly 2 hours we got of the plane, got through passport control, got our luggage, got on the Leonardo Express, arrived a Termini, purchased a 7 day transit pass and went to the Metro platform we needed.

@bozy106
@bozy106 Жыл бұрын
If you are on an incoming international flight you will have to walk for about 10 minutes to get to passport control. The time to get through passport control varies based on how many arriving international flights are arriving at around the same time as you (I've never had to wait more than 10 minutes). After passport control it may be another 3-5 minutes to get to your flights assigned baggage claim carousel. Unfortunately, I don't have a video showing how to get to a domestic flight from baggage claim, but you should be able to follow the signs to Terminal 1 which is the Terminal at FCO that Ryanair operates out of. (International flights typically arrive in Terminal 3). To get an idea of the layout of the airport, check out the airports official website - www.adr.it/web/aeroporti-di-roma-en/pax-fco-airport-map

If it is a connecting flight (into terminal 3 and then to a flight in terminal 1) booked on the same airline reservation try looking for a sign that says “connections” or “connecting flights”. If it is on different airlines you’ll likely have to exit terminal 3 through baggage claim and follow the overhead signs to terminal 1 and go through security again.
