Hey guys,
Today we talk about international football and how it compares to club football. Some people hate the international side of things, but I don't agree. Is one better than the other? What about in certain circumstances? Let's talk about it.

Funnily enough, im completely disinterested in club football. I dont have any connection to it, it feels soulless. False loyalty of fans to a club that changes players faster than underwear, international players that know nothing of the culture around the city of a club. A team full of mercenaries with no persistent identity appart from the branding. In international football, people dont just change teams. Good players will be called up for all of their career and the teams always feel more united and familiar. To the non-fanatic who likes football, international competitions are way more appealing.

You described this so well! I've never been too interested in club football because I just don't know how people find a club to be a fan of. Is it the club itself or the players playing for the club? Will they just stop being a fan after their favourite player transfers? I just always found it easier to enjoy and cheer for international teams as it's easier to connect with them (for example your country's team or that of a neighbouring country) and your favourite players usually keep playing for the same team too.

Bang on..The other thing that pulls me is you can't buy the talent at international level and you can see who can adjust to that critical level...you have to shape and develop what you have in your own country..People talk about Klopp/Pep being the solution to England's problems...the reality is that international competition exposes brutally many English players as not being as good we are told they actually are supposed to be...tactically, positionally, skill or technique..For example, the fact in the recent Euro final that key English players like Saka and Mainoo could not track back and defend..You can get away with that in top Club football because you will likely have a world class player to cover but in the international stage you will get found out..!

When people say: “International football is boring.“ they mean that teams produce significantly less chances and exciting moments throughout the match (for example, Belgium and Ukraine match was kinda surprising because Belgium did not win and we saw 2 goals, but match was incredibly boring to watch) due to tactics and significance of every single match. In club competition you have more room for an error and teams played more open football with more goals and chances. That's why

Pure passion like Croatia making it to final 4 in back to back world cups. As opposed to playing with basically the same guys year round like a day to day job, international tournaments force players to come together and give it their all in short period of time. I like international matches more because it is easier to decide who to support. I didn't really grow up in a big city with a important club, so supporting any club feels kind of fake. On the other hand, supporting my country is really easy because I have a direct connection to it. The tournaments are also more concentrated so they can be my entire personality for a month. I usually have a couple of weeks of depression afterwards but the next qualifying matches or nations league are usually not far away. I also watch the women's national team of my country so I can have a big international tournament every year.

Being a Cricket fan 🏏 is the reason I watch international Football ⚽. The stakes are far higher, because it's about national identity and representation of your country on a global level apart from passion. International cricket 🏏 is frequent, countries play bilateral series of matches against each other, like friendlies in Football ⚽. In cricket, the national team is bigger than any club team; a player can play for multiple clubs in a year, but that player plays more matches for the country than club.

I think you kind of misunderstood the point with “people hate international football”. People don’t hate international football as the Euros, Afcon, Copa America and world cup provide the most historical and intense moments. I think all the “haters” agree to this. People hate international football because of the high number of meaningless matches. A two year international qualifying campaign, additional Nations League matches and on top of that a bunch of unnecessary friendlies cramped up in an already overfull calendar with more important matches being played for the club level. I love international football! But only the matches that matter in the tournament in June. I want to watch matches for the prizes not for the filling of the calendar

Depends on what are you watching football for. If you're watching purely for entertainment then yes, international football is better in some aspects. Club football though does have the appeal in its big names, big clubs, tactics, nuances and it being the highest level of football there is. Also some people think its boring when they are not familiar with the nations and don't recognize the names managing and playing. But in my opinion combination of both is the best. It's fun to look at the same players playing for clubs and their nations and how players known for their club football who don't usually play with each other play. Example of this is England in the euros right now who have so many big names in club football is so interesting to look at how they are playing together. For me the storylines involving big club stars playing for their nations are very interesting and they make international football very entertaining.

I don't think there's a drop in quality. there's actually a distribution of quality. Take france and spain leagues for instance. Most of the quality gets distributed between the first 5 or 6 teams. The rest are basically at the level of bad national teams. if you add the passion for playing for your country it turns the sport into a better competition.

I am fan of a Championship Club and it means way more to me what England does. Not that I don’t support England but it doesn’t get me in the feels like club football does.

I don’t think pep made the game robotic or “boring” minus the previous year yearly City have played pretty nice football fairly consistently and no need to mention his Barcelona sides which are without doubt the best teams the sport has seen. What HAS made the game boring at times are managers trying to adapt philosophies like his but without the personnel to make it work imo, but it would disingenuous to not bring up a certain conservatism that his style has somewhat brought about at times I guess lol

The wonder kid from Indonesia example is not true at all. They won't get visa to play in top EU teams without the Indonesia football team not being in top 70 FIFA ranking or something

The only thing I’d disagree with is say the quality of international team is worst because of the player selection. England on paper has the best and most expensive team in the world but they lack the mentality

International to me just feels more unique the chance of winning something comes 1 every 4 or 2 years, and the build up to it and watching the teams evolution feels more natural, compare to club where you need to cross your fingers so your team dosent get butcher by the trading season or maybe they screw themselves by paying for inflated players or sacking the manager over 1 lose and hire someone worse

Only france was a dominant team in that tournament they were the clear favourite from the start because spain's golden generation was fading away Brazil has not recovered from that 2014 incident Germany lacking major players in major positions Portugal had never won a major title apart from the 2016 euros and they were lacking squard dept argentina was just had one tactics defend and give the ball to messi england has the English media always hyping them but we all know the end product and Belgium was Belgium Croatia was the finalist that year so you can already see the issue here, you just can't digest argentina's heroic campaign lost 1st match to a nation that never won against a team above 80 ranking messi saving Argentina from mexico while being motm in every single game a classic wc match Argentina vs Netherlands, best revenge against Croatia and then france you are just a nostalgia merchant, change my mind

@@idkwho7037 wdym i cant digest Argentina victory, i just said 2018 was better than 2022, 2018 had massive underdogs, massive scores, atmosphere was electric and if 2018 had the same type of hype as the 2022 one, cuz messi and ronaldo last chance for a world cup, it would have been the best tournament yet. Plus, a Ronaldo hattrick, Messi saving Argentina from elimination and a new prospect called Mbappe was just too good to be good, 2022 final might have been better but overall 2018 was better

2014 probably the best one imo. Netherland’s revenge on Spain, every attention was directed towards the host Brazil, as they were the favourites to win on their home soil, and we didn’t notice Germany in the background destroying every single opponent until the unforgettable 7-1. Great final at the end too

i still wonder if i watched a different france vs netherlands match than everybody else. to me that match wasn’t boring, it was just frustrating that nobody could finish but because it ended 0-0 (netherlands were robbed) people quickly wanted to say it was the most boring match. the most boring matches were all the ones england played😴
