I went to a flea market near Tier Garten earlier today. Not the best one but I enjoy walking through flea markets and see what I find (though usually just looking around only). I'm glad that you guys had a nice day out at the harbor in Hamburg! I guess PDA by a gay couple is totally tolerated in Hamburg? Or is it more because of the special occasion that the city was celebrating, and people were all happier and exited? Anyway, hope you cute couple made it back home safely.

Yes, it is absolutely tolerated. Hamburg is cosmopolitan and tolerant and I am incredibly proud of my hometown, which allows everyone to live the way they want.

With millions living in the city that is overall very tolerant towards gays, the chance of being a target of hate crime is slim, yet I always worry. I might be a bit too sensitive, but I can't help it.

We also love flea markets, both! I guess PDA is like touching and kissing, right? To be honest, I would describe it similarly to how you described NYC: The city is overall very tolerant towards LGBTQ, and the chance of being a target of hate crime is slim, but there is one. At night, in the wrong area, or when someone is drunk, things can change suddenly, even though it was safe before. However, I agree mostly with @c.s.3612 that it's generally very tolerant.

I know it may seem a bit sad that I don't feel comfortable doing such a basic and universal stuff. Can't help it. If I'm walking in the woods and no one is around, then I might hold hands in public. @@etivathanh Du hast ganz sicher Recht damit, dass das Zusammentreffen mit der falschen Person am falschen Ort zur falschen Zeit sehr gefährlich werden kann. Unbelehrbare Menschen gibt es leider überall und natürlich auch in großer Zahl in Hamburg. Ich weiß nur aus meiner Erfahrung mit zwei befreundeten gleichgeschlechtlichen Paaren, dass die Hamburger schon vor vielen Jahren freier, toleranter und weitaus weniger hasserfüllt waren, als es z.B in Bayern der Fall war, wo das andere Paar lebt (München). Und das hat sich im Lauf der Zeit noch weiter verbessert, so empfinde ich es. Ich freue mich, dass Ihr eine gute Zeit beim Hafengeburtstag hattet und wünsche Euch von Herzen weiterhin alles Gute.
