I'm 67 and I would buy a new International truck if they still made pickups. They were Real trucks.

My great grandad had a 1940 International flatbed truck. 6 cylinder gas in her. He bought her in 1947 after WW2. His hired man made two trips a day hauling apples about 90 miles there and back (from Omak to Wenatchee Washington). She served us from the 1940s into the 1960s. When we stopped using her, she sat, and sat, and sat. Then we decided to rescue her. She was in shit shape. We had to try out the motor. My dad, grandpa and a mechanic went out to start it, they doubeted it would work. They opened the hood. Which almost fell off, threw some gas in the tank, threw some oil in the pan, and put a battery in it. She studdered and roared back roared back to life. Those International engines are some of the most reliable engines ever made. We have since restored her. She is a beautiful truck. I am now fifteen, and cant wait to drive her. It is a damn shame International is not in business. As you can tell I am a John Deere guy when it come to tractors. I will admit, those International tractors will give a Deere owner a run for his money. International anything is awsome, whether it be a tractor, truck, or semi. They just plain run. Its as simple as that. That is my International story.

+CWMORGAN 4240 International is going strong as Navistar. I'm a John Deere guy having worked for years on J.D. Industrial (the yellow john deeres) I'm on my 18th International light truck. Just bought it a few days ago.

+Yamaha SR650 Nice man, how old a truck? Yea, my name, if you look closely comes from my favorite tractor, the John Deere 4240. Its an awsome tractor. 8 speed power shift. fun to drive, a little jumpy, but still a great tractor. I am working on restorung her now, new interior, fresh pain, wiring ect.
@47485ksc8 жыл бұрын
+CWMORGAN 4240 I've rebuilt a few power shifts. JD used them in older scrapers. I just bought a 1967 1300C one ton dually pick up truck. I've seen a lot of one ton duallys but never with the Bonus Load box on them. I've been messing with them starting in 1977 with my first, a 1967 1/2 ton Travelall wagon. My "new" one has a locked up 304 V8 but it came with a (supposedly) recently rebuilt 392. Judging by what I found when I took out the 12 freeze plugs, it wasn't TOO "rebuilt"! I'll find out when I perform a compression test on it. it has no flywheel so I got to pull the 304 to use it's flywheel to spin it over and do all this before I start installing it. If you'd like to see it and others, go to: daviddaveinternational@gmail.com

Long live International? They didn't live too long in their own right when the 80's finally hit. Probably a case of poor management and producing antiquated machinery that couldn't keep up with the times. I really don't mind International Harvester albeit the fact a lot of their trucks and pickups weren't pretty to look at. I mean an agricultural machinery producer with not a whole lot of dollars to spend on design and tooling is always more focused on functionality than looks...I can accept that.

It makes me wish I was born back in the 40's and not the 80's. THOSE were the times. That was liv'in the life. I hate the way this country is today. All these spoiled brats being brought up in the world. Cell phones. We need a time machine

My 1951 L112 is still waiting for me to refresh the motor, and brakes. She sits in the barn with 120k miles on the clock... patiently waiting for me to do it. This helps give me that incentive! Nice job.

Great video! Love seeing all the old trucks, it takes me back to a time when we had a lot of those trucks I just saw on the video! The internationals were great trucks built by great people who cared but now nothing is built with pride anymore!

It was a strike (1979-1980) by those "great people" that destroyed the company. It just could not recover the losses. Though, the company did a poor job negotiating with the union...the company having laid off most of their labor negotiators, as a cost-cutting measure.

In the late 70's I had a Scout with the biggest V8 they made, not totally sure of the displacement, but I think it was a 392 cu in. Man, that thing could even pull stumps! Gas mileage was terrible though so I finally sold her when I got older, had a family, and had an hour commute. Kinda wish I'd kept the old girl now. Ah well, it's like most of the stuff I owned back in the day; most of it would now be collector's items!
@darthgraggus26908 жыл бұрын
Good for you defuse56! I have,well, my dad have a International Pick-Up truck that use various things around the farm and all.

I think the 392 was the biggest engine In 3/4 ton travelall And the 1/2 ton Both were beasts and the half ton pulled hard and the tires never spun I believe it pulled stumps, ours skidded out 40 or 50 inch diameter oak after limbing of course

We had 2 International trucks on my Grandpa's farm. WE had a 1962 & 1966 that we wore out hauling watermelons to the Memphis Produce Market in the early 70's
@thecurtray3 жыл бұрын
on one labor day weekend i came home weighing 103,000 of melons. limit is 80. everyone made money. i hate melons. mine came from west texas.
@SteveHolsten3 жыл бұрын
@@thecurtray We raised our melons in his field behind the house. We loaded a pickup load every morning with 3 of us. Then we drove them 90 miles to Memphis. That went on everyday for several weeks every year.

@@SteveHolsten well you said you wore them out and at 90 miles i know you did also. i have 4 international trucks right now myself. one is so good i cant believe i own that. 1948 kb2 that did not get used for work. i still dislike watermelons to trade for printed cotton paper. we a odd bunch.

@@thecurtray I still can't stand the thought of eating a watermelon after almost 50 yrs when I burned out on them. We raised stripe & Charleston Grays.

@@SteveHolsten well at age 59 i just learned something new. watermelons have 2 names. worst fly attract i have ever seen besides horseshit. i live in city and there is horseshit on the curb right now. must be cops sniffing for weed at night. i burn mine in the daylight so i can see to light it better. stay cool friend. melon is cut come and get it.

With Cornbinders people either loved them or hated them. There is no middle ground. The closest I came to spanking my dad happened when he borrowed a Cornbinder pickup from a neighbor and had me haul trash to the dump with it. I said words that day I never heard during my time in the service. Needless to say, I have hated International trucks with a venom since.

IH trucks were good in the 50's & 60's But somewhere they became rust buckets. The ones they make now are nightmares the once great DT466 became a parts eating joke. The mechanical injected ones ran forever but when they went to electronic injectors they were junk too bad.
