Be real. The dislike button still works with a hidden counter. It still communicates your preferences to youtube and affects your feed. It still counts as interaction that drives the algorithm to promote the video more, just like it does now. What a hidden dislike counter *can't* do is provide a target for bots and trolls to make issues seem more controversial than they are. Look at any youtube promoted video on the pandemic for example. We know that about 60% of US citizens are fully vaccinated (focusing on US due to... eh you know why). That's a pretty strong indicator that over half the population has concluded the vaccine is a good idea, and we don't have evidence to show that *all* of the roughly 40% remaining are anti-vaxxers. Many of that 40% have one dose. Or just don't care. Whatever. But if you look at those videos, they all have like 80% dislike ratios. How is that possible? It's not without some amount of foul play. These videos are targeted with counterfeit dislikes because just having that bar visible allows them to mislead some people into believing the vaccine is overwhelmingly unpopular. And that's fucking dangerous. Maybe I should have chosen a different example, I'm worried there's a strong chance you're an anti-vaxxer, in which case this won't do shit to convince you. But if that's the case, can you refute my argument without admitting that you want the dislike counter to remain precisely *because* it's become a propaganda tool?

It's definitely polite to be mindful of others' sensory needs whenever possible, but yelling over a crowd to be quiet just isn't going to work 9 times out of 10. Even when they settle down, there's noise creep as people talk louder to hear over the collection of other voices. That's why college libraries have "quiet floors" where there is zero tolerance for talking and other floors allow for a polite whisper to normal speech and then study rooms are a free for all as long as they're not on quiet floors. You just go to whatever floor works best for you and other people are pretty respectful of that. If you hace sensory difficulties, most conventions are going to be a challenge for you. That doesn't mean that you have to stay home. It just means that you need to bring some tools and some coping skills with you. Earplugs and sunglasses are the cheapest and most easily available. A plan of escape to a quiet, calm place is free but takes a little time. Weighted vests can be expensive but there are homemade solutions and they may be covered by insurance and they can help ground you while not being super obvious if want to be stealth. Unfortunately, the world doesn't usually bend much to special needs, but there are a lot of tools we have that we didn't have 50 years ago even that you can use as privately or publically as you feel comfortable with displaying

Idk about this. My anxiety attacks have never manifested in the way you're describing - I get physically ill for multiple days at a time with severe stomach cramping and can have issues with frequent urination for weeks at a time. Mines worked for 2-3 months then one ear only had 5 min battery life so i had to juggle between the two like an asshole and a few weeks later the 2nd ear just up and died. 80 bucks well spent
