It’s very, very important to point out that Ned Fulmer is Alex’s boss and owner of the company she worked for. As such, there’s a definite power imbalance, and we have no idea what went on behind the scenes. Relationships will always be ethically wrong when the person you’re seeing is your boss who has control over your career and workplace environment. So no, in my opinion it’s not “Alex, stop it” like you said, because we don’t know if coercion was involved.

Compensation is a component you guys missed regarding the job conversation. The reason most of the public frowns upon influencers complaining about their jobs is that wealth inequity in the US is at a record high. People work more hours than ever for less money than ever. Millions of Americans work 50+ hours per week AND remain in or near poverty. I have no doubt being a content creator/influencer requires real skills and real work and can be very difficult. But it is extremely tone deaf to complain to your audience who are experiencing huge inflation, a pandemic and record health inequity. Many large influencers and celebrities make more per hour than ICU nurses risking their lives and neurosurgeons saving human lives. If you can own a home and save for retirement, and have health care by working 50 hours per week, you are extremely privileged. For example, the very fact that this influencer can opt out of working and access mental health treatment is something the vast, vast majority of Americans cannot do financially. I'm so happy she can, that's awesome. But many people are currently struggling to even put food on the table working a full time job.
@melissacoviello28862 жыл бұрын
But in this particular instance Mykela was responding to a comment that told her to try working a 9-5 job and that was dumb because she had been working a 9-5 job since she was an adult and then she explained that she put in at least that much as a content creator and it’s relevant that she made these comments back when she didn’t have millions of subscribers and wasn’t making a crap ton of money and was still living at home. I think Rachel and Emily fully understand wealth inequality as do most who listen to this podcast. As does Mykela.

I disagree with the influencer part the point people are arguing is being an influencer is easier than a full time job.The waking up"6am" part alot of people get up at that time a work later than her.I do I get up at 6 go to work 8 and get off at 6 and I'm 17 and yeah your job may be hard but you get paid a sh1t ton for it we work just as hard if not harder for less money:) the point was she rich don't complain about geting paid alot.
@annabelvoh2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I understand that and I can relate but saying that she doesn’t work is also wrong because she does work. Maybe she does get more money and works less than “normal” people but she worked for that and she built her platform. I personally wouldn’t be able to do her job and manage all the negativity and the constant comments but I can do a 10 hour shift in a factory just fine. It’s about not discrediting the fact that she has worked for what she has.
@Ali-cn1gq2 жыл бұрын
@@annabelvoh valid points but fame is alot of luck yeah she works hard but alot of her money comes from luck
@annabelvoh2 жыл бұрын
@@Ali-cn1gq yeah true but luck can be applied in multiple other jobs. Like I was lucky that I got a higher salary because someone else quit at the right time but I’m not constantly getting hate for it and getting told that I didn’t work for it and that I should get a real job. I’m just saying that I understand being tired of people underestimating the amount of effort she put into this. Sure she shouldn’t be complaining but it has to get annoying at some point. I also understand how people could be jealous and hate the fact that she is complaining because I work so hard and I’m a full time student and I barely make money especially compared to what she makes but still I don’t think it’s right to hate people for it.
@kirstywhite23392 жыл бұрын
I dont believe she was complaining about her pay, it was more about the fact people seem to think influencers have it easy when they actually don’t. Just because someones life may be harder than hers doesn’t stop hers from being difficult too.
@Ariplaygames2 жыл бұрын
@@Ali-cn1gq Luck will only get you 15 minutes of fame. To have a solid influencer career takes work, even if people hate to admit it. If it was easy we would all be millionares from it. Im not saying its the hardest job in the world cause it isnt, but that doesnt mean she isnt allowed to clap back at stupid people who tell her "get a real job". I have never been questioned on the validity of my work, I actually work in a high paying industry and very highly perceived job, but I literally sit at home in my pijamas and get distracted watching youtube or random shit all the time cause thats the nature of my job. I also work hard and get a lot of shit done. I work and my work is valid and so is hers. I would get being mad at her if she was saying her work is the hardest and she has it the worst, but she literally just said she works and its a real job, which it is. At the end of the day, influencers are humans too, and people who discredit them for the nature of their job or cause they make a lot of money only sound jealous.

The thing with Ned wasn't just that he cheated, it was that Ned was the boss and he cheated with one of his employee's. If he had just cheated, it would have been another thing and not as OMG, but because it was with an employee, plus his wife was an employee, it was a way bigger deal. What's even more fucked up is that there was a video done within the last year with the Try Wives and Ariel was talking about not feeling great about her body beause she had recently had her second kid. Alex, the gal Ned cheated with, was the producer of that video.

i think the thing about the influencer being hard work argument is that y’all make significantly more money than the average person, who has no choice but to work 40+ hours a week to afford basic living expenses. it’s just not the same in my eyes. influencers can also take off as much time as they want and still get a aid during that time off.

I love your vlogs and podcasts. However, people (most) still definitely work 9 to 5 jobs a day. I’n a full time student working 8am to 6pm, 5 days out of the week. This is not saying that your job is any harder…. However, there’s a lot of people who work harder than you. Also, yes. Emails suck. But we all deal with emails too 😂 not just creators. Most of us are barley making it. Again, I love your videos…. But to continuously say how much of a work load you have in every vlog, it’s nothing compared to People trying to balance a family or school and work and BILLS in the equation. I’m jealous that you get to record your day and answer emails. I’ll take editing anyway over the shit I go through. I’m the “Suzan” that’s a boomer. Like everyone else lol

I do find it comical that people, on all media platforms, follow pages that they don’t like and the comments on plain about the content or the actual person bcuz they don’t have the same views. Those types of people are bitter and jealous and know they can’t make that much money so they choose to act like a child. I have never followed anyone I didn’t like and complained on their pages. I also love the hypocrisy of people that say anyone in the entertainment industry: singers, actors, KZbin or other social media content creators, think that it’s an easy thing and there’s no real or hard work in any of those fields……mmm k. Just like Rachel has stated there’s more that goes into her content than the haters think. If the haters think those fields I listed are no biggie and not much work, then I dare them to try any of those. Cuz to the haters they assume that every person in the world can do all the fields I listed.
