This is Part 2 of the transgo shift kit install in a 2002 Dodge Dakota with a 45RFE transmission.
After coming up empty handed after looking for clear instructions on how to install a shift kit in this transmission, I decided this would be the perfect opportunity to make this video. This is the Trans-Go 45rfe-HD2 kit and it works on the 45rfe,545rfe, and 68rfe. These transmissions are found in many different vehicles such as the Dodge Ram,Jeep Grand Cherokee, Dodge Durango, and Dodge Dakota. These transmissions are used behind the 4.7l V8, 5.7l hemi, and the 6.7l Cummins. I am installing this kit in a 2002 Dodge Dakota. This video may also goes through the steps to replace the solenoid pack in these transmissions which is the most common problem if you get transmission codes.

At end of Part 1 you were trying to remove the L/R switch valve. It looked like you were using a magnet or something. How did you get that switch valve out? Or, did you find that there was none installed in the bore? Did you happen to remove one, and install the new one from the kit, or what? That part was skipped in Part 2, also. Thanks.

Is this accumulator responsible when transmission shifting because i have a slippage when shifting from 3rd to 4th gear

Why did you rebuild the valve body in the first place and did it work? Did you ever had the same problem again?

How come you didn't mention that you were putting on those seal expanders on each of those Pistons? I saw you put them on there, but you never explained what they were and why you were putting them on. For those we don't know that you put on another part that you never told anybody about

Question: Did the "END PLUG" go all the way in when inserted after the "SWITCH VALVE as when you removed the original two parts? I ask, because the "END PLUG" I inserted stayed flush with housing without going any further. Please advise. Thanks

yes, the end plug should stay flush with the bore. to remove the swithc valve, take out all the acumulators&springs and GENTLY tap the VB on a table and the old switch valve should come out.

What was the end result of the spring change? Is the shifting slower/smoother with the heavier springs? Where did you find the zebra bed spread? I had one of those in 1968.

+boogerhead0 It seems to shift faster but this is an electronically controlled transmission so the TCM really controls how the transmission shifts.

what exactly on this kit requires you to have to pull the transmission to install?

Is there a recommended torque spec for the accumulator plate? Thanks for the video!!!

There probably is but I just used a 1/4 inch ratchet and tightened it down and it seems to work just fine. Make the bolts pretty tight BUT DON'T STRIP OUT THE THREADS IN THE VALVE BODY!!

I did a little research and found that you should torque them to 40 in lbs and use blue loctite on each bolt. Did you have to do a quick learn after install?

You shouldn't need to do a quick learn, atleast I didn't and it seemed to work fine but it would probably be a good idea to disconnect the battery. One thing that happened to me though was when I first turned the key on all the PRNDL lights were illuminated on the dash which kinda has me a little worried for a second. If you see this just move the shifter through all the positions while the engines running and it should go into gear after a few moments. Good luck with your install!

Thanks. How long did it take for the gear position lights to return to normal? I can't remember if you used the plug and play line pressure resistor or not. If so any issues running the two together?

Derrick Layne Not that long, maybe 15-20 seconds. Just move the lever into R, N, D etc. and hold it in each position for a few seconds so the different circuits can fill up with trans fluid. I didn't use the resistor since I had a superchips tuner but from what I heard you can just cut the torque mgmt. wire and it will do the same thing as the resistor. If you don't cut the wire or use the resistor, then the shifts wont feel any harder.

How did you get the switch valve out? Mine won’t budge at all.

Had the same problem myself. I think I got it out by beating the whole valve body on the bench till it fell out.
