Four years ago, I was diagnosed with cancer and was about to undergo a very critical surgery. While waiting in line in the operating room before the anesthesia, I asked the medical student waiting with me to play this song. The idea of this song being the last thing I heard felt very meaningful. Every time I listen to it, it reminds me of those times.

I remember being so depressed by my mom's breast cancer last year, I used to play this Interpol CD over and over again while waiting in my car for her to come out of the Hospital, now that I'm listening again to this song it gave me the same feelings of those days, it was a hard time but thanks to God she's fine now. To those who are passing a rough time I tell you, dont give up, there's always a way out, it feels good to be depressed sometimes but you cannot be like that for ever, ther are people who needs you, just get up and fight.

When I was younger, I used to go out with my friend, just to have some chat and smoke a few cigarettes. He liked Interpol, especially this song. We always smoked listening to this, while thinking about life, philosophizing... Eventually, we ended up don't being in touch so much with each other, but two months ago he came to me just to remember the good old days, have some conversation. Two days after that he killed himself. Everytime I listen to this I think about him and the good times that comes and go.

There is some mysterious, attractive beauty hidden in this song. I've been listening to it for a week now and I can't calm down. And this video... seems to be simple, but the more I watch, the more it fascinates. Bonds of these particles form and break. And so on in a circle. Hypnotically. I remember liking a girl at my highschool, and listening this song thinking about her a lot. She was a freshman and I was Senior, she used to chat with me and flirt with me, but I've just missed my chances with her, when I tried it was too late because she liked someone else, I stole a kiss from her, it was a beautiful moment. I was not living a good life back then, bad friendships, relationships, jobs, bad family and so on, and the fact that she was "So young, so sweet so surprised" hold me back. I was in a horrible relationship last year, I'm so glad I got out. I used to listen to a lot of interpol when I walked over to her house, listening to this made me feel free as I walked. 2021… im here listening again to this song… more than 10 years ago I was still back home in Brazil… with friends driving around and listening to this song without any worry… without any preoccupation! I was on a party recently, and as a young man, there was this girl, i really liked, i mean write-rhymes-type-like, and for a time she seemed to like me back, but i couldn't get it, nor was i brave enough to ask her out. Now she's dating someone else, and i understand that we wouldn't have worked out either way, but that hit me. Listening to this in 2019 and i can still relate to it. Music is one of the things no matter how old are you, where you are from or who you want to be, it always stays with you . This song is awesome. I remember i first listened to it while playing Need for speed and it was a dark night. I was so sad i nearly cried. Great song with great lyrics

I always read the lyrics to be taking a break from recreational drugs, but I think it's about meeting someone truly alive. They don't just see the shit, they see the good things too and offer a fresh insight and expirence of the world. He was going to stop taking recreational drugs, but she came along a reminded him how scared he was and why he need them. Or he was going to take prescribed meds to rest and quiet his biological chemistry, but she showed him what he'd be missing out on.
