The Clearview Expressway (Interstate 295) links the Throgs Neck Bridge with east central Queens, while providing connections to the Cross Island Parkway, Long Island Expressway, and the Grand Central Parkway. The route provides additional access to JFK Airport, via these three other routes. The expressway ends abruptly about 1/2 mile south of the Grand Central Parkway at Hillside Ave. Original Plans called for the expressway to be extended about 6 miles further south to end at Kennedy Airport, which would have provided a much needed additional route to the airport for commercial vehicles...
Opened January 11, 1961, the Throgs Neck Bridge carries Interstate 295 over the East River, connecting the Bronx and eastern Queens. This bridge is the main route for traffic between New England and points north and west, and Long Island. The bridge's towers are 360 ft. tall and the main span of the bridge is 1,800 ft. Including approaches, the bridge is approx. 3 miles long.
