I've reiterated so many times but I-45 sprawl north of downtown Houston is just crazy. Takes forever to get out of the metro area!
@SaffyLabby Жыл бұрын
No wait, hear me out. It takes forever cause of traffic right? So let’s just add another lane, then we can drive faster cause of the decreased congestion!
@trulylondon1 Жыл бұрын
@@SaffyLabby Unfortunately, that's not how it works. The Katy Freeway been a nightmare even with such lanes. It's the people driving, not the roadways.

I lived out near North Fwy and FM1960 back in the early 90s. The difference I see now is crazy. Back then the HOV lanes stopped just south of the Beltway and I-45 once you got north of Greenspoint Mall was just 3 lanes each direction. Even FM1960 at the freeway is different now and back then it was much less densely populated.

So many cars, so many lanes. Just awesome. It's crazy just how big Metro Houston actually is! 11:43 Crikey that's a monster pickup in the HOV lane, we have nothing like that here in Australia 😂😂

I think you're the first person I've seen mention it in a video but I've always thought a lot of the vertical curves around Texas were a bit abrupt (always thought it was just from the camera zoom or something). Glad I'm not the only one thinking that lol. Those are some of the longest overhead sign trusses I've ever seen too in some areas. Great video.
@AsphaltPlanet1 Жыл бұрын
A lot of early freeways in Texas have really abrupt vertical geometry. It's quite a contrast. Texas' modern roads are so good, but their old stuff is pretty bad.

Great drive! Do you know the company called Cintra a well-known toll road operator with a partnership concession? And does Cintra operate privately lease Highway 407 in Ontario?
@AsphaltPlanet1 Жыл бұрын
Yes, I have heard of Cintra before. Cintra is the operator of the 407 ETR, and Ferrovial, Cintra’s parent company has constructed other infrastructure in Ontario.

Tbh, it’s really nice to see a video from the Houston area, as a lot has changed between 2018 & today. I also noticed that the sky was quite clear at some moments of the video. Something that almost never happened in a video from there. I believe that due to the amount of traffic there was on I-45, it was recorded during the rush hour, right? Also, did you notice that one of Freeway Andrew’s video got blocked from Canada due to copyright? The video in question is A-20 between Quebec City & Montreal. This is definitely pretty disappointing, as it was my favorite video from him. According to himself, KZbin’s copyright system acts up & blocks some tracks, mostly by error. As an example, around a year ago, his video of hwy 11 between Barrie & Gravenhurst got blocked & some weeks later, the block got lifted. Hopefully the same thing happens here as well.

I did see a bit of sun in this video, however in true form to Houston it also rained on me in this video as well. That’s too bad about Freeway Andrew’s video. It does happen however, he could always just mute that one song if it doesn’t get fixed on its own. Thanks for the comment.
@alexishoude4449 Жыл бұрын
@@AsphaltPlanet1 I agree, maybe the block will be lifted some weeks later, like nothing happened. The track that got blocked on that video btw was the track ''Me & Mrs. Jones'', by Billy Paul

Houston floods and I-45 being the only road North to evacuate from Hurricane

This is what happened during the Katrina Hurricane in 2005, where traffic was literally stuck in their car for like a whole day!!! I wouldn’t like to be there

@@alexishoude4449 for Houston, it was the evacuation for Hurricane Rita that was really bad. Ultimately Rita missed Houston, but over 100 people died in the evacuation (more than those directly killed by Rita).

@@alexishoude4449 there were horrible traffic backups, as well as daytime air temperatures up around 100F during the evacuation. I think part of the issue involved dehydration, etc., from people not packing enough water and food, as well as heat-related illnesses like heat stroke.

There is a secret rule only people from Houston know while driving certain Carpool (Fast Lanes). Dont drive a POS down it. You notice many dont have break down lanes. If you break down then you block the only lane and the Tow Truck has to come from the other direction and everyone behind you is stuck no matter what.
@hitechredneck6366 Жыл бұрын
Agreed. The one nice thing available beyond the tow trucks is the Houston TranStar Motorist Assistance Program. They can assist in those tough situations where a breakdown happens in a bad location. I see them pretty frequently on the Katy Freeway.
