The sculpture is named the "Tree of Utah". It was built in the 1980's and dedicated in 1986 by Swedish artist Karl Momen. It is owned by the State of Utah. Keep the vids coming MMM!! I've driven several of the roads you've posted, especially in the Navajo rez. Great to see them again!

Years ago there was NO fence around the "tree". I stopped and took pictures from all sides. There are cement balls on the ground that look like they fell and cracked open (though that obviously isn't why they are there). Some guy with a VW was sitting in one of them like he wanted to take a nap. Stuff like this is why there is a fence around it now!

Mountain man, I believe the inversion is when the atmosphere above is colder than the smoggy air below. It doesn’t allow the smoggy air to rise. So it takes a windy weather pattern to blow the smog out of the valley. Maybe I’m right, maybe I’m wrong... I spent a few winters in this area, and that’s what I remember it took to clear things up. I lived at the top of parleys summit. Got to know the handle of my snow shovel real well!😜 “PEACE”

Speaking of Country & Western Music ... A while ago, at a local servo/truck stop just east of Wagga NSW Australia, I came across three young lads in thew cab of a brand spanking new Toyota Land Cruiser. The tray was bare and C&W was playing in the cab. I said to the driver that if he played the music backwards, he would get his dog, his girl, and his ute back. Well ... he turned up the volume and they all got most irate! I reckon that's the closest that I have ever come to being beaten up by C&W enhusiasts!

I-80 across the Salt Flats has changed; it used to be STRAIGHT, 50 miles. You could see cars coming from the other direction, but it would take 10-20 minutes to pass. Now, they have a "chicane", due to the many, many accidents (from highway hypnosis). It's about half way across.

A slight curve then back to a straight line. There is some federal regulation that says an interstate has to have a curve in it every x miles to break up the monotony. The longest straight line I remember is on the Pa Turnpike at about 22 miles. I think it was constructed before the regulation came into effect.

The air inversion in SLC in the winter is caused by the colder ground air being trapped by the warmer, higher altitude air. What you are seeing with the low clouds/fog is the pollution of the valley. If you go up to the ski areas in Little Cotton Wood Canyon, Snowbird/Alta, you can see the top of the inversion. HTH

I see someone answered you about The Tree of Utah. I am not sure if we saw this on either one of our trips. We did see "Enchanted Highway" near Gladstone, ND on highway 94. We did stop and took pics as it was just beautiful with the sunset. We saw "Deer Crossing" and "Geese in Flight". There may have been 1 or two also. In 2009 we went on the Salt Flats with his brand new Silver metallic gray Corvette. We stopped to take pictures on the sand near this little hills you past on the right. People were racing or doing something nearer to the hills. When we left we saw some young guys pulled up near the gas station somewhere there. My husband took off down the road and did 171. He tells everyone he did it on the Salt Lake but no it was on the road that he opened it up. My husband is a bit of a show off. Being this was his 3rd Corvette and one of the others he took to Laguna Secca in Monterey. This was prior to us being together. We did take this 2009 after this trip as an invitation from the plant in Bowling Green. We road around the track with other Corvettes prior to the Indy race....and of course he and others opened it up. That was enough speed for me. I am so glad he doesn't have it anymore. I try to drive it once, but it had 6 speeds. I was familiar with the H for a 4 speed. I didn't feel comfortable so that was all I drove it. I hate the traffic in Salt Lake City. On this trip we stopped in to visit my nephew, his wife and daughter. We spent the night but I guess we time it right as we hit tons of traffic leaving. I was so glad to get back into the nice open roads.

First trip westbound (1976) over Parley, grossing 75, no Jake....smoked my trailer brakes all the way down. Kinda scary cause back then I-80 ended at a stop light in SLC, wasn't built thru yet. Drivers going eastbound were always pulling on the shoulder to keep from overheating their engines. Finally learned to take 80 to 84 thru Devil's Slide to Ogden and down 15 back into 80 in town. A bit longer but very scenic and no scary hills!

I think a 45 second mile is 90 mph Mike. 60 second mile is 60 mph. 30 second mile is 120 mph so the average between the 2 is 90 at 45 seconds. 80 mph is roughly 45.5 seconds per mile

3600 seconds in an hour; 80 miles in an hour. 3600/80 = 360/8 = 90/2 = 45/1, so one mile is 45 seconds. 90 MPH would be 40 seconds.

60 mph is 60seconds a mile. 120mph is 30sec a mile. 60+120=180÷2=90mph 60sec+30sec=90sec÷2=45sec

Rate i.e. Speed = Distance / Time. It is not a linear ratio; it is hyperbolic, where as you approach 0 on each axis (time and rate), the other approaches infinity. Your approach to the problem is utterly incorrect.

I've worked in Saudi, Jordan and other ME countries and you can drink all you want if you're a member of the elite, average guy in the street will be flogged but if you're royalty no problem. Our company imported booze but we could only drink it on the premises.
