Thanks! Wish I had more time to take Route 1, it seemed very scenic, but our daytime driving stuck to I-95, though we stayed off the Turnpike for the New Hampshire section.

I had no idea that road was that old, but the geometry tells with long straights and sharp crests very reminiscent of pre-war German Autobahnen.

Thinking about it more now, considering how old the alignment is, it really does explain a lot about the way this portion of the Turnpike is designed
