As a truck driver, I used to drive through here very often, day, night, winter, summer... you name it. I want to go back and take my time to really enjoy the scenery. I had to detour on US-50 after a chemical spill on I-80 and this route took me through Ruby Lake National Wildlife Refuge and I caught 5 black broncos on my camera while passing through. And yes... it is very desolate and "lonely" if you will. I took this highway as a good excuse to smoke a bowl and listen to 80s music while driving at 90mph lol

Great video, thanks! In 2006 My wife and I rode our HD Ultra on a fantastic 10,000 mile ride from D.C. to British Columbia and returned via the PCH and below SF we turned east to get onto US 50. Eureka, I remember it well...we spent the night at the Best Western there and I woke up at 4:30 with kidney stones! We got on the road and I kept pounding down the water and stopped often to get rid of it. A Nevada Trooper pulled up when we were somewhere in the Basin and he said there wasn't a hospital for hundreds of miles in any direction but he offered to bring in a helicopter to fly me out, "But the bike has to stay." I thanked him anyway but we pushed on...finally got rid of the stones in Tennessee. We still had the time of our lives on that trip...with a total of 1 1/2 hour of rain for the 7 1/2 weeks. Amazing! Thanks again for the memories!

Route 50, then across the great Smokey Valley through Beaty to Vegas. You for sure will need extra gas. Another side track that is awesome for a bike is just inside Utah on the west side. Route 11. The old and winding road. It crosses the states. I have discovered many forgotten roads in my many trips back and forth across our beautiful country. I even discovered Walmart country market at the beginning of 11. It is like a convenient mart. Slept there for a few hours on a couple of trips

R Duran - He's joking, lighten up.
@donf38775 жыл бұрын
@R Duran Well, then you are one of the few. Driving truck I saw just about everything from my 'perch' up high. They all drive down the interstate at 80 MPH reading a book or newspaper, working on a laptop computer, watching a movie on a 7" DVD player sitting on the dash, eating a meal with knife and fork, texting of course but with a mount attached to the steering wheel so they didn't have to 'hold' the phone, changing clothes, putting on make-up, and the assorted sexual experiences of guys jacking-off, women driving naked with their tinted windows up but the sun roof open, etc. etc. etc......... The best one was a guy out in Kalifornia running down a half mile entrance ramp with a notebook computer on his lap typing with one hand while drinking his coffee and eating his breakfast with the other doing 45 MPH the whole time. And of course, he expected me to slow down and let him in after running the entire length of the ramp without speeding up..... NOT. First and LAST time I ever accepted a load going to that state. Most of the drivers out there are nuts. They remind me of my brother-in-law that thinks driving is a waste of his time, so he thinks about everything except driving. Maybe that's why he had three at fault accidents in three weeks time???!!! Do not know how he ever managed to keep his insurance, but it must have cost him a mint. And not just car drivers either anymore... the 'new breed' of truck drivers, the 'steering wheel holders' as we called them, are just as bad as the car drivers. The only difference is, their 'car' weighs 80,000 pounds.

In a 1971 very cold winter late afternoon I drove along this road with a 1098,4274cu (18000cc) nitrogen V18 elaborated Ford Mustang Mach1 (shining petrol blue color) from the last straight 5:38 I started to reach, finally, the speed of 690mph (=1110,45 km/h) in 57seconds. The car had 6 wheels (4 behind - each one 19inches large) and aerodinamically designed to not take flight, weighed down with a 1500lbs lead mass and to resist the bang shot (I remember this as a dream...). The steering wheel was central and the motor was intruding up from the bonnet, where there were two large not flat bars from each side up to end down behind with counter-shaped V, half ton counterweighted not grounded and the two front wheels were 30inches large, on each side of the windscreen three spear unflat bars to break down the air mass and I remember even the triple retractable parachutes I was using to to brake down that speed... 4 colleagues were inspecting by radio transmitters the moments the road to have no car before me for 30km, after this the weather office (no winds in the place) gave me the start signal and we did the extraordinary fact... the growing noise to full power was largely fearsome... (I remember this as a dream) At the end of the fire road there was a whole motorbykedc police department and a judge to fix me in jal for 20 years but public protesters made months manifestations and it was obtained "The Mach 1-3 amendment" for each citizen to reach that speed (buahahahhahahahaahah), though

Good video. In August 2011, I drove U.S. Highway 50 from Sacramento, CA all the way across NV almost to the ghost town of McCornick, UT and back. What a drive! What a road! This is indeed The Loneliest Road In America. Stock up on extra water, food, bedding and whatever else you need before driving on this road. If you break down halfway between Ely and Eureka, you'll have to go about 40 miles either way to either town. Make sure your vehicle is in top running condition before driving this road.

For information, the skid marks are when a tractor trailer has an air line problem on his or her truck, and the trailer will automatically lock up. I took highway 50 back in 1970 when the speed signs in Nevada said, "reasonable & prudent." It was extremely lonely back then. I drove it from Salt Lake City to Sacramento. It was quite a trip. I met a car roughly every 2 hours. I drove it in a Ramber American sedan.

Are we just going to ignore the fact that, that truck driver's trailer was swerving all across the road for miles before he stopped to see what was wrong.😂😂😂

Thank you so much for the video Kyle. It answered a question for my wife and I. This video is where they, TV SHOW RV, gets one of their scenes. I was wrong on the highway number. I was thinking it was US 66, but this video proves it is US 50. Don't know why, but I'd like to see it in person. I saw a few pieces of green, but not many. The place sorta reminds me of Co. in a way. To make a living you have to work for the fed, state, city or sell tourist things like gas. It does have its own special beauty.

Thank you! I was debating on taking this down lol. Yes there is a chevron is both towns I believe. There is one visible at 0:01. There might be another gas station in Austin im not sure. I hope to get more videos posted of US 50 and US 6 in Nevada.

That place reminds me of the film - hills have eyes. Scary. :|

I live in the desert (near Las Vegas). I can confirm that is very accurate. If the landscape won't bring you down to your knees the climate definanetly will!

I've done this drive, it's pretty remote, but if you want REAL space, try driving through the Australian outback - especially Western Australia, then you'll really appreciate the meaning of the word isolation!

Amerixan Southwest has a climate and terraine like the Australian Outback. We even have the venomous critters that can kill aas well as the deadly lazer we call a sun.

This road in the video is remote, but lots of cars along the way so I wouldn't call it lonely. The road through Nullarbor Plain between Adelaide and Perth is one item on my To Drive list.

@@DosAussieThai You just saw the beginning of this road, no where NEAR most of it. There are people that halfway across have gotten out of their car, sat in the middle of the road and eaten lunch, and did not see another vehicle for over an hour.

Yes, but considering America is the 3rd most populous country in the world, it's more unusual not to see anyone for many, many miles here than in Australia.

I've done it couple of times in the 90s. I had friends living in Ely. Great drive. It sure is the loneliest road in the US.

Whoa is that someone driving by with a boat at the peak of the tallest mountain in the middle of the desert (Pinto Summit)? It just goes to show you, people will do boating anywhere!

Great video, one thing I would have loved to have done were things different and it seems a great many more people feel that way to. Thanks for the drive. Keep safe
