This is the 2nd in a series of 3. In this video I review things you should think about as you prepare to light your models. I show you a few examples of projects I've worked on and how I approached each one.

I'm looking to do my first real lighting job on Nautilus Drydock's 1:300 SeaQuest DSV. I'm going to have to create some kind of access panel so I can get into the hull. Not quite sure of my plan yet, I'm in the research phase. These were very helpful examples!

You have a nice idea with this video but I wanted to see how you actually mounted the lights, what did you use to house the lights in the exterior lit models? How did you run the wires? You tell us what you did but I can see what you did, I want to know HOW you did it. Not a criticism, just a suggestion, it looks like you did a totally professional job, share with the class how you did it!

I really need to do an update of this video. Maybe what I can do is build on what was done here and talk about housing. The main objective was as an intro to lighting in general. Appreciate you watching. I'd like to launch a separate feature of just short and to the point tutorials. This could be a good subject for one. Thanks again.

hi mate, this is wonderful, thanks so much for providing appropriate links to grab accessories. May I ask ,I am lighting a trek model a 1/1400 scale effort I love the flickering leds here, they'd be good for impulse engines and bussard collectors, would you have those on a separate circuit?or on its own independent circuit from the main lighting!. thanks.
@InterstellarModeler
@InterstellarModeler Жыл бұрын
You can do it either way but i’ve kept them on the same circuit. No real need to separate them unless u want to. Thanks so much for watching and for your kind words.

In the lite cockpit of the viper, how do you make the control panel displays translucent and get them to appear in different colors so close together? I would imagine that it is LED behind. If you are using different color LEDs you must have a way to isolate the light from the red LED from the cool white LED
@InterstellarModeler
@InterstellarModeler 2 жыл бұрын
With something that small the best is to use eithr UV curing clear resin (which is available in a small bottle) or canopy glue to fill the openings. Then use clear tamyia paint to independently color each opening. That way u only need a white LED as the light source. Hope that helps. Feel free to email me if u have any other questions. Here’s the link to the resin. One bottle will last a long time. Cures instantly with UV. www.michaels.com/signature-crafts-light-cure-uv-resin-3.68oz./10625688.html

Two double AA's = 3V. Am I not seeing more batteries as you mentioned the Viper ran on 6V?

Thank you so much for the great video series about lighting and your other great content! One thing...take it or leave it..."use" not utilize. Sorry it drives me crazy. If something is acting with its intended purpose you are using it. For example, you use a hammer to nail a piece of wood. I can utilize a hammer as a door stop. Only intending to help not harm as much as your vids have helped me. Cheers!

I'm lighting an RC heli, and so far had no issue with making them work, apart from when I've added flashing bulbs for navigation, they seem to dim the "static" bulbs making them almost flicker? can you advise if I can change this or do they need to be on a separate power supply? thanks in advance!

When you made the bsg model and added those decals did they come with instructions as to were to put each decal? Or did you have to work it out?
@InterstellarModeler
@InterstellarModeler 7 жыл бұрын
Both the Colonial One and the Viper have instructions on where to place the decals. The biggest problem I had with Colonial One is poor alignment (with the windows). When the windows are not drilled or filled in it's not as noticeable but otherwise you can easily see the decals to align well. Highly recommend a decal solution like microscale's Set and Sol solutions which help to soften them. Lots of contour. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.

Interstellar Modeler with the galactica what bits of the ship did you have to paint that wasn't covered with the decals or whatever there called
@InterstellarModeler
@InterstellarModeler 7 жыл бұрын
Are you referring to the original series (TOS) Galactica or the re-imagined Galactica. The TOS hardly has any decals. The model was painted with Testors Light Gray. With the reimagined Galactica it was painted with Metalizer steel I believe then covered with over 1100 decals. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks

Hi I have been watching your Video on lighting your mobiles I have been trying to find a large scale Enterprise to put lights in but can't find any where would be grateful any information on where to go thank you
@InterstellarModeler
@InterstellarModeler Жыл бұрын
HI Alan. The largest scale models of the Enterprise are the 1/350 scales. Models of the orginal series, refit and Trek Enterprise have been available over the years. The classic series 350 scale is definitely available, not sure about the others. A good online source is culttvman.com. I should also note that Round2 has announced a re-release of the AMT 1/650 scale Enterprise with upgraded parts is on the horizon as well. If you're looking for accuracy, however, the 350 scale is the best that I've seen. Hope that helps and thanks for watching.
